Shaken by Donald Trump, artists are starting to speak out. During the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 1, singers and musicians took a stand against the Trump administration’s immigration policies, particularly against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE), following the deaths of two US citizens at the hands of federal agents in Minneapolis in January. The most outspoken was Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, who made history by winning, among other awards, Album of the Year for Debi Tirar Mas Fotos, the first-ever Spanish-language work to win the prize.
“Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say ‘ICE out,'” declared the singer during the live ceremony broadcast on CBS television. “We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
