Unai Emery’s revamped Aston Villa travel to Brighton for their Premier League opener on Sunday.
It’s been a turbulent summer for the Europa League winners, having sold key figures Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne, while Ezri Konsa is set to join Arsenal, and Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez have also been the subject of transfer interest.
Emery faces further difficulties as £38 million João Gomes joins fellow midfielder Amadou Onana on the sidelines, record signing Johan Manzambi has yet to feature in training due to a knee problem and new striking sensation Brian Madjo is also injured.
Brighton welcome Villa to the Amex Stadium less than 72 hours after playing a Conference League qualifier against Norwegian outfit Tromso in the Arctic Circle.
Seagulls boss Fabian Hürzeler could hand a debut to new signing Promise David, who arrives as a replacement for Danny Welbeck following the veteran striker’s switch to Chelsea.
