US parents and teachers: share your thoughts on Google turning off Search for schools that reject AI

Google announced this week that schools restricting AI entirely will lose access to Google Search. Chris Phillips, vice-president for education at Google, told the New York Times that “search and AI are deeply integrated” so if a school has banned AI, students “will not have access to search, and they’ll see a message from their school that indicates it’s not available”.

Since Google owns roughly 91% of the global search engine market share across all devices, this is a seismic announcement for US students.

We’d like to hear from teachers and parents. What do you think about Google’s decision? Do you think students should have access to Google Search, regardless of AI’s availability? Why or why not? What, if anything, do you see happening as a result of this move?
