It’s almost time to head back to Welford Park as The Great British Bake Off returns to screens this autumn and this time, there is a major change on the judging panel.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Nigella Lawson would be the new judge, replacing Dame Prue Leith who left the show after nine years.

Leith said she was “thrilled that Nigella is to experience brilliant Bake Off. She’s sassy, fun and she knows her onions — and her croissants, cake and crumble”.

Lawson will judge alongside Paul Hollywood, while Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding return as hosts once more.

With one month of summer left to go, it’s only fair to start thinking about the autumn and Bake Off is the perfect signifier! So, when could it return to Channel 4? Read on for everything we know so far.

The Great British Bake Off 2026 release date speculation: When could it return?

Channel 4 has not confirmed an exact start date for the 2026 series.

In previous years, the series has returned to screens in September, with last year’s series returning on 2 September. If the show was to follow a similar release pattern, we could expect the series to begin in September.

As previously mentioned, Nigella Lawson joins Paul Hollywood as a judge for this year’s Bake Off.

Announcing her appointment, Lawson said she was “at a loss for words” and “intimidated” to follow Prue Leith and Mary Berry, but “filled with enthusiasm” at joining what she called a “national institution”.

Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding will return as hosts.
