DOJ Seeks To Rescind US Citizenship Granted To 10 Individuals

Authored by Naveen Athrappully via The Epoch Times, The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Monday that it has filed to denaturalize 10 individuals charged or convicted with various crimes, including offenses against minors. “Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, a naturalized U.S. citizen’s citizenship may be revoked, and certificate of naturalization canceled, if the naturalization was illegally procured or procured by concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation,” the DOJ said in a July 20 statement, adding that the Trump administration was continuing its “largest denaturalization effort ever.” One of the individuals targeted for denaturalization is Rodriguez Perez, 45, of Cuban origin, who was naturalized as an American in 2018. Prior to obtaining citizenship, Perez engaged in Medicare fraud worth more than $886,694 and concealed this conduct during the naturalization process. Perez pleaded guilty in the case and was convicted of conspiracy to commit healthcare and wire fraud. Another individual, Urbano Vazquez Ortega, 53, a Mexican naturalized in July 2017, had sexually assaulted children while being employed as a church priest in …

CFTC seeks delay as US soldier pushes dismissal in Polymarket insider trading case

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) wants a federal judge in New York to hold off on briefing an expected motion to dismiss in its insider trading lawsuit against US Army Special Forces soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke, while a separate request to pause the civil case is considered.  In a July 10 letter to the US District Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr., the agency said the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has moved to intervene and is asking for a full stay until related criminal proceedings are finished. The agency said delaying the planned pre-motion conference would promote efficiency if the criminal case takes priority. CFTC court battle in US soldier insider trading case …

Turkey Seeks Moscow Permission To Offload S-400s, Paving Way For US F-35 Deal

Turkey Seeks Moscow Permission To Offload S-400s, Paving Way For US F-35 Deal

In a move that could break a years-long defense procurement deadlock with Washington, Turkey is finalizing the sale of its Russian S-400 air defense systems to Gulf states, potentially clearing the way for Ankara to buy US F-35 fighter jets, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reports Friday. For Ankara, offloading the Russian hardware resolves a years-long costly diplomatic and military bottleneck and controversy – a situation which dramatically improved after President Trump gave a clear greenlight during the annual NATO summit in Ankara this week. But apparently it needs Moscow’s formal permission before doing this, as Bloomberg reports, “Turkey is seeking Russia’s consent to transfer air defense systems it bought from Moscow to a third country, an effort aimed at clearing the way for the purchase of US-made F-35 fighter jets.” “Ankara made the approach in recent weeks, just months after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed returning the S-400 missile systems to Russia — an idea that gained little traction, said Turkish officials, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private,” the report continues. When asked …

Council seeks legal advice over bailout calculation

A council has sought legal advice and written to ministers after flagging concerns that it will miss out on extra cash to plug a looming SEND deficit. The government is writing off 90 per cent of councils’ dedicated schools grant (DSG) deficits up to April, expected to cost around £5 billion. In exchange, councils have to submit – and have approved by ministers – a local SEND reform plan detailing how they will deliver the government’s system overhaul. The plans are due by today (Friday). Indonesia seeks to diversify network routes, reduce 90% internet connectivity dependence on Singapore

Indonesia seeks to diversify network routes, reduce 90% internet connectivity dependence on Singapore

Yet observers warn that dependence on Singapore carries risks caused by natural disasters and accidents, which have encouraged Indonesia to diversify its international connectivity. Muhammad Arif Angga, chairman of the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), said that natural disasters could cause cable disruptions affecting Indonesia’s internet connectivity.  Subsea cable damage can also be caused by ships, anchors, and fishing activities, with around three cable failures weekly, which amounts to 150 to 200 cable failures globally every year, according to the International Cable Protection Committee. Indonesia inaugurated a new internet connectivity route in Papua in May 2026, giving Papua two independent digital routes that will create new opportunities and accelerate digital transformation, said Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Angga Raka Prabowo. The first route connects through Sulawesi-Maluku-Papua while the second links Vanimo in Papua New Guinea to Jayapura then connects Manado to Los Angeles in the United States. CHALLENGES TO DIGITAL SOVEREIGNTY Analysts said that the government’s move to develop subsea cable infrastructure also includes maintaining domestic communications infrastructure, though this has challenges. This means that …

County supervisor races: Horvath seeks reelection, Durazo running for Solis’ seat

County supervisor races: Horvath seeks reelection, Durazo running for Solis’ seat

Los Angeles County voters will cast ballots Tuesday in two very different races for county supervisor. In District 1, state Sen. Maria Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles) is one of five candidates vying to succeed Hilda Solis, who is up against the term limit after more than a decade on the Board of Supervisors. A former labor leader, Durazo has a big lead in campaign contributions, collecting nearly $75,000 this year, leaving her with about $642,000 on hand as of May 16, according to the latest finance reports. District 1 includes East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. In District 3, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath is hoping to secure a second four-year term representing an area that includes the San Fernando Valley and the fire-ravaged communities of Pacific Palisades and Malibu. Horvath has raised about $190,000 this year for her reelection effort, far outpacing her three challengers and leaving her with nearly $413,000 on hand on May 16. There has been no public polling on either race, so it’s unclear which candidates are favored among voters. …

Nahmad Seeks to Reopen Modigliani Case With New Witness Testimony

Nahmad Seeks to Reopen Modigliani Case With New Witness Testimony

David Nahmad’s lawyers are asking a New York court to revisit its recent decision in the long-running dispute over Amedeo Modigliani’s Seated Man with a Cane (1918), citing what they say is new eyewitness testimony that could reopen the case. In a motion filed after the court’s April 3 decision, which awarded the painting to the estate of dealer Oscar Stettiner, Nahmad’s legal team argues that the work at the center of the claim may have been misidentified from the start. The suit was brought by Stettiner’s grandson, Philippe Maestracci, who has been trying to recover the painting for more than a decade alongside the restitution firm Mondex. The work, estimated to be worth more than $25 million, was bought at auction by a Nahmad-linked company in 1996 and has been kept in Switzerland since.  Source link

India’s Snabbit seeks fresh funding at a $400M valuation, sources say

Snabbit, an Indian instant house-help startup, is close to raising fresh funding at a valuation of around $400 million in a round led by Susquehanna Venture Capital, TechCrunch has learned. The Bengaluru-based startup is in talks to raise around $50 million in the round, according to three people with knowledge of the deal. One of the people added that the round could be around $55 million or higher, as strong investor demand may prompt the company to raise more than initially planned. The round is expected to include participation from Mirae Asset, FJ Labs, and existing investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners and Bertelsmann India Investments, the people told TechCrunch. It would mark a significant jump from the $180 million valuation at which Snabbit raised $30 million in October 2025. The deal could be announced as early as next week. Founded in 2024, Snabbit connects households with on-demand domestic help for cleaning, dishwashing, laundry, and other chores, offering quick turnaround times through a managed network of workers.
