Waymo restarts San Antonio service 5 months after flooding troubles

Waymo restarts San Antonio service 5 months after flooding troubles

Waymo has restarted its robotaxi service in San Antonio, Texas, five months after one of its vehicles was swept away during a flash flood. Multiple Waymo robotaxis got stuck during the heavy flooding in April. The vehicles slowed but did not stop as they approached waterlogged streets. Waymo ultimately issued a recall in May, and the company restricted its robotaxis from driving in areas with elevated risk of flooding. Waymo briefly paused operations around the same time in other cities in Texas but has since resumed those services. The company is now offering paid rides in 15 U.S. cities. The resumed service in San Antonio will involve dozens of vehicles covering a 60-mile area that includes downtown and the San Antonio International Airport, according to the San Antonio Express-News, which was first to report on Waymo starting back up. Waymo told the paper that it has made changes to its software that will help the robotaxis better detect and avoid standing water in the future. Source link

U.S. strikes Iran before Hormuz Strait blockade restarts

Courtesy: U.S. Navy U.S. forces launched strikes against Iranian targets shortly before the U.S. resumed its naval blockade of Iranian ports in and around the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command said Tuesday. The latest round of strikes, aimed at “degrading Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial shipping” in the economically vital strait, began at 3 p.m. ET, Centcom said in an X post. The U.S. said its naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman would restart at 4 p.m. ET. In a statement posted on social media later in the day, Brad Cooper, Centcom Commander, said that Iran had “intentionally” targeted civilians and attacked seven commercial ships over the past seven days, resulting in about a dozen crew members killed, missing or injured. The blockade of Iranian ports was lifted after the U.S. and Iran struck a temporary ceasefire deal as part of a …

Trump floats 20% toll on Hormuz Strait cargo; restarts Iran blockade

Trump floats 20% toll on Hormuz Strait cargo; restarts Iran blockade

President Donald Trump on Monday said the U.S. will impose fees in the Strait of Hormuz “at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped,” after declaring America the “guardian” of the major oil shipping route. Trump, in a Truth Social post, also said the U.S. will reimpose its blockade of Iranian ports near the strait, the epicenter of the U.S.’ rapidly reescalating war with Tehran. The blockade will resume Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, U.S. Central Command said. The U.S. has rejected Iran’s own plans to charge tolls to ships passing through the strait, which maritime experts, regulators and even top Trump administration officials have said is illegal under international law. But rather than call for the return of the strait to its prewar status as a toll-free international waterway, Trump’s post asserts that commercial vessels attempting the transit must now pay protection money to the U.S. Oil prices jumped, and stock indexes fell, following Trump’s announcement. The strait, which saw 20% of the world’s oil trade before being choked off at the start …

Novorossiysk Restarts Oil Loadings At Reduced Capacity After Drone Strike

Novorossiysk Restarts Oil Loadings At Reduced Capacity After Drone Strike

By Julianne Geiger of OilPrice Russia has restarted limited oil loadings at its Black Sea port of Novorossiysk after a drone attack earlier this week forced a full suspension. Operations at the Sheskharis terminal resumed late Thursday, but only one berth is currently active. A single cargo of roughly 80,000 tons is expected to depart, well below the terminal’s normal capacity of about 700,000 barrels per day. The restart comes after the Monday strike that caused fires at a fuel terminal and damaged loading infrastructure. Shipments were halted entirely. The loading schedule had since been cut, and there is no timeline for a full return to operations. Fuel flows are also only partially back. Fuel oil loadings resumed Thursday, and at least one diesel cargo has been shipped since the attack, according to Reuters sources familiar with port activity. Novorossiysk is one of Russia’s main export outlets on the Black Sea and a critical node for both Russian and Kazakh crude. The port handles shipments tied to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system, which moves crude …

Justice Department restarts program to restore gun rights : NPR

An attendee at a gun rights rally open-carries his gun in a holster that reads “We the People,” from the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, in this 2019 photo at the Capitol in Olympia, Wash. Ted S. Warren/AP hide caption toggle caption Ted S. Warren/AP Last month, the Department of Justice quietly published a list of 22 names in the Federal Register. With little explanation or fanfare, the department announced that these individuals had their federal gun rights restored. Most of them had something in common: decades-old felony convictions. Many had been charged long ago and had lived for years without access to firearms. There was one exception — with a much more recent charge: Republican Arizona state Sen. Jake Hoffman, who was indicted in 2024 for being a fake elector in 2020 — and was one of dozens of people President Trump pardoned in November. The restorations are part of a broader DOJ push to revive a program that’s been dormant for more than three decades. It allows people with certain felony convictions — …

Japan reactor restarts help fuel record nuclear sales at Mitsubishi Heavy

Japan reactor restarts help fuel record nuclear sales at Mitsubishi Heavy

TOKYO, March 4 : Nuclear reactor restarts in Japan will lift sales at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ (MHI) nuclear power unit to a record 400 billion yen ($2.54 billion) next business year, well ahead of earlier forecasts, the company’s chief financial officer said. “Originally, we were saying it might reach 400 billion yen around 2030,” Hiroshi Nishio told Reuters in an interview. MHI will increase headcount in its reactor-making division by about 10 per cent next year as orders grow, he added. Fifteen years after the tsunami-triggered Fukushima nuclear disaster shut down Japan’s nuclear industry, the country has restarted 15 of its 33 operable reactors. Japan’s government says it needs to turn them back on to cut imports of oil and gas, which account for about two-thirds of the country’s power generation. Much of that fossil fuel comes from the Middle East where supplies have been disrupted following U.S. and Israeli air attacks on Iran. Restarts reached a milestone last month when Fukushima operator Tokyo Electric Power Co switched on the first of seven idle reactors …

The Clash Of Civilizations Restarts History

The Clash Of Civilizations Restarts History

Authored by J.B. Shurk via American Thinker, Western globalists won’t last long. Thirty-five years ago, American political scientist Francis Fukuyama made a name for himself by advancing the proposition that the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union promised the ascendency and universalization of so-called Western liberal democracy.  As a Marxist-Hegelian who saw the progression of history as an evolutionary process with a natural and predetermined conclusion, Fukuyama envisioned Western-styled liberalism as both “the endpoint of mankind’s ideological evolution” and “the final form of human government.”  Expecting all human struggles to barrel toward a state of imminent equilibrium and future peace, Fukuyama stated out loud what many other late-twentieth century thinkers also believed: Humanity had reached the end of history. After the 9/11 Islamic terror attacks in the United States, two decades of the “Global War on Terrorism,” communist China’s expansive “Belt and Road Initiative,” immigration-fueled social strife, the collapse of public trust in government institutions, the prevalence of pre-civil war conditions across Europe, the rise of Indian economic power, the emergence of Donald Trump’s nationalism as …

MH370 search restarts more than ten years after plane’s disappearance

The deep-sea search for the wreckage of the MH370, which disappeared in 2014 is set to restart on December 30. Ocean Infinity, a private US and UK based company are managing the effort. They are working on a ‘no find, no fee’ contract, and will receive almost 60 million euros if they succeed. The hope is that improved technology will help solve the biggest recent mystery in aviation. Keywords for this article Source link
