Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, CEO says

Replit, the AI coding platform that has become a favorite of startup founders and developers, is no longer working with Anthropic, the company’s CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said Thursday while onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt. Masad said the decision was made for a number of different reasons, including cost. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but there was never any indication that it was no longer with Anthropic. “I think ChatGPT is better now,” Masad said, adding that the company uses an internal benchmark to help assess metrics like performance. “We publish a public benchmark as well, and consistently, Sol and Astra perform better on building vibe-coded applications from scratch. It was a decision based on both cost, partnership, and performance. And for all these reasons, we just felt like they were a better partner for now.” Replit sells a cloud-based software development platform where users can develop and deploy apps directly from inside their browser. Under its partnership with Anthropic, Replit used the AI lab’s Claude models to run its platform. That …

Replit launches the newest version of its popular vibe coding app

Good news for vibe coders everywhere: Apple has lifted its temporary ban on Replit updates, enacted earlier this year, and the company has officially released Agent 4, first teased in March. CEO Amjad Massad took to X to celebrate the good news: “We worked things out with Apple, and just published our app for the first time in 4 months. Thanks to all our customers and creators who helped out. It’s been a journey, but we never give up and stay winning! Enjoy the updates! Lots of new things coming.” SEE ALSO: Apple boots vibe coding app Anything from App Store The Agent 4 update brings powerful new upgrades to the platform, including the introduction of parallel agents to allow you to work on multiple ideas simultaneously, the ability to collaborate on projects by merging flows, and the ability to view your projects across multiple workspaces.  Mashable Light Speed Though it isn’t exactly clear what compromise or agreement Apple managed to reach with Replit and other AI-based software creators, the original dispute involved a long-standing …

Anthropic launches Claude Marketplace, giving enterprises access to Claude-powered tools from Replit, GitLab, Harvey and more

Anthropic launches Claude Marketplace, giving enterprises access to Claude-powered tools from Replit, GitLab, Harvey and more

San Francisco startup Anthropic continues to ship new AI products and services at a blistering pace, despite a messy ongoing dispute with the U.S. Department of War. Today, the company announced Claude Marketplace, a new offering that lets enterprises with an existing Anthropic spend commitment apply part of it toward tools and applications powered by Anthropic’s Claude models but made and offered by external partners including GitLab, Harvey, Lovable, Replit, Rogo and Snowflake. According to Anthropic’s Claude Marketplace FAQ, the program is designed to simplify procurement and consolidate AI spend. Anthropic says the Marketplace is now in limited preview and that enterprises interested in using it should reach out to their Anthropic account team to get started. For customers interested in the Marketplace, Anthropic says purchases made through it “count against a portion of your existing Anthropic commitment,” and that the company will manage invoicing for partner spend — meaning enterprises can use part of their existing Anthropic commitment to buy Claude-powered partner solutions without separately handling partner invoicing. In effect, Anthropic is positioning Claude …

Why AI feels generic: Replit CEO on slop, toys, and the missing ingredient of taste

Why AI feels generic: Replit CEO on slop, toys, and the missing ingredient of taste

Right now in the AI world, there are a lot of percolating ideas and experimentation. But as far as Replit CEO Amjad Masad is concerned, they’re just “toys”: unreliable, marginally effective, and generic.  “There’s a lot of sameness out there,” Masad explains in a new VB Beyond the Pilot podcast. “Everything kind of looks the same, all the images, all the code, everything.” This “slop,” as it’s come to be known, is not only the result of lazy one-shot prompting, but a lack of individual flavor.  “The way to overcome slop is for the platform to expend more effort and for the developers of the platform to imbue the agent with taste,” Masad says. How Replit overcomes being generic Replit tackles the slop problem through a mix of specialized prompting, classification features built into its design systems, and proprietary RAG techniques. The team also isn’t hesitant to use more tokens; this results in higher-quality inputs, Masad notes.  Ongoing testing is also critical. After the first generation of an app, Masad’s team kicks the result off …
