5 New Novels This Fall That Prove Historical Romance Isn’t Dead

5 New Novels This Fall That Prove Historical Romance Isn’t Dead

There’s definitely a vibe among romance readers that historical romance is in a downturn. Some might even say historical romance is dead. I will admit, it seems like there are fewer and fewer historical romance novels coming out over the last few years. And some of my favorite historical authors are migrating to other subgenres. But I fully reject the notion that historical romance is dead. There are still wonderful historical romance novels coming out every month. Furthermore, I’ve noticed historical fiction becoming more romantic (and more sexy) than it’s ever been before. I would never recommend a story here without a happy ending. But I have rounded up a mix of historical romance novels with a few deeply romantic historical fiction novels for this list. The settings and time periods range from Gilded Age New York to Regency London to Ming Dynasty China. And the spice levels range from closed door to so hot I’m blushing just thinking about them. But all of them were published or will be published in September and October …

Quantum fields carry energy. Does that prove that they’re real?

Quantum fields carry energy. Does that prove that they’re real?

One of the biggest questions that appears right at the intersection of physics and philosophy is as simple as it is puzzling: what is real? Is reality simply described by the particles that exist — that make us up, that we interact with, and that we can observe and measure — atop the background of spacetime that’s described by General Relativity? Is it fundamentally wrong to describe these entities as particles, and must we consider them as some sort of hybrid wave/particle/probability function: a more complete description of each “quantum” that exists within our reality? Or can we go even deeper than this description of reality, noting that there are fields, fundamentally, that underpin all of existence, where the “quanta” that we typically interact with are simply examples of (at least temporarily) stable excitations of those fields? When quantum mechanics arrived on the scene, it brought with it the realization that quantities that were previously thought to be well-defined, such as: the position and momentum of a particle, its energy and location in time, and …

GTA 6 is creating PS5 Pro shortages. Sony’s solution? Prove you’re a real gamer to enter a lottery to buy one

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is still weeks away, yet anticipation for the game is already fueling PlayStation 5 Pro shortages in Japan. While the much-anticipated title from Rockstar Games will be available for multiple consoles, players seeking the ultimate GTA 6 experience may be eyeing Sony’s most powerful console. So, what’s Sony’s solution for the PS5 Pro shortage? A lottery that will determine who can buy the console.  Mashable Top Stories But, there’s an extra catch. The PlayStation maker is requiring that consumers prove they’ve put in time playing on a PlayStation before they can even enter for a chance to buy a console. To enter the Sony Store lottery in Japan, consumers must use a Sony account that shows at least 60 hours of confirmed playtime on PS4 or PS5 consoles between September 27, 2024 and September 27, 2026. If users meet those requirements, they can apply to purchase one PS5 Pro through October 7. Lottery winners will be informed by October 26 and can then make their purchase. They’ll receive …

Security doesn’t have to cost thousands per year, and these free apps prove it

Security doesn’t have to cost thousands per year, and these free apps prove it

Keeping your accounts and devices safe is more than just installing an antivirus. Yes, antivirus is part of it, but what also counts is how you’re storing passwords, whether you use two-factor authentication, how private your connection is, and how private your email account is. It makes sense that people spend hundreds of dollars to keep their files private and accounts secure. But you don’t have to pay for a password manager or a security suite to get real protection. Plenty of great security options, from built-in Windows features to third-party apps, offer top-tier protection without costing a cent. Related Passkeys are great, but no one tells you about the catch until it’s too late Passwordless login is delightful until the device holding the “less” part goes missing. Bitwarden A free password manager that covers all the basics If you’re still relying on your browser to save passwords, you’re taking a risk you don’t need to take. Browser-based password managers don’t encrypt your data the same way dedicated tools do, and they fall apart the …

The fashion comebacks that prove it’s worth hanging on to your clothes | Loved Clothes Live Longer

The fashion comebacks that prove it’s worth hanging on to your clothes | Loved Clothes Live Longer

Hannah Rochell What do you think of when you hear the word flares? The counterculture of the late 1960s? Pictures of your parents in the 1970s, perhaps. For me, it’s the Wrangler bell-bottoms I bought secondhand in 1995. They were already 20 years old, but completed my vintage look of Adidas T-shirt and shell-toe trainers in a contemporary way. Bootcut jeans, the bell-bottom’s slightly toned-down cousin, were huge in the early noughties before skinny jeans took their place. But our love for flares couldn’t be suppressed for long; they were back on the catwalks as soon as 2015. Fast forward another 11 years to Claudia Winkleman’s celebrated wardrobe for The Traitors at the beginning of 2026, and it was full of, you guessed it, flares. Flared trousers have been around since the 19th century when they were worn by US navy sailors, but it’s since hippies adopted them that they’ve drifted in and out of fashion for the best part of 60 years. I still have those Wranglers in the loft. They very much don’t …

Kate Middleton and Zara Tindall’s autumn wardrobes prove there’s a secret royal dress code

Kate Middleton and Zara Tindall’s autumn wardrobes prove there’s a secret royal dress code

Autumn is here, and it’s time for us to revamp our wardrobes, replacing lighter fabrics with items that are sturdier and offer warmth. Colour-wise, autumnal tones tend to reflect the seasonal shift, with rich burgundies, racing green hues, and caramel shades at the forefront of our minds when the temperature drops. The Princess of Wales has been very busy lately, from settling in her eldest son, Prince George, at Eton, to heading to the Isle of Bute last week. One thing I’ve noticed as a Fashion Editor who specialises in royal style is that Kate may alter her wardrobe to suit changing temperatures, but her ethos stays the same. She wears items that are always mindful of her position and are elegant. You can be sure that even when the royal is dressed casually, her timeless approach will still be visible. © Chris JacksonKate’s look is always classic, especially in the autumn Take her latest look when she accompanied her husband, Prince William, for an engagement on the Isle of Bute, and debuted a new …

African IPO turns people into oil tycoons, and they have the memes to prove it

A man climbs into the cab of a truck and slaps the two drivers awake. He hasn’t invested $4 in Africa’s largest crude-oil refiner, he fumes, to find his workers asleep on the job. Another new Dangote refinery shareholder sips from a mug while reading Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad Poor Dad.” “My fellow billionaires,” he says, “please come out.” Source link

NHTSA orders Tesla to prove its Cybercab is legal to sell, under oath

NHTSA orders Tesla to prove its Cybercab is legal to sell, under oath

NHTSA has ordered Tesla to prove that its Cybercab is even legal to sell. The agency issued a formal Special Order on September 10 demanding that the company show, under oath, how a vehicle with no steering wheel, no pedals, and no mirrors complies with federal safety standards written for human drivers. Tesla has until September 30 to respond. Failing to answer fully and truthfully carries penalties of up to $139 million. We reported on September 4 that NHTSA opened Audit Query 26002 hours after Tesla began commercial Cybercab service in Austin on September 3. This is the escalation. An audit query is a request. A Special Order is a legal demand, backed by a sworn-affidavit requirement and the kind of penalties that get a general counsel’s attention. The order runs to 21 detailed requests and is signed by NHTSA Chief Counsel Peter Simshauser. It’s addressed directly to Tesla’s head of litigation and its associate general counsel for regulatory affairs.
