Novak Djokovic reveals unspecified health issue following ouster at the Cincinnati Open

Tennis star Novak Djokovic alluded to a health condition after an early exit from the Cincinnati Open on Saturday, in which he lost to 25-year-old Thiago Agustín Tirante in the second round. Djokovic, 39, was visibly struggling throughout the match and appeared to vomit at one point, requiring a medical timeout. The match lasted nearly three hours before Tirante ultimately took down the 24-time Grand Slam champion. It was “not an enjoyable” match, Djokovic told reporters after the loss. “It’s just a condition that I have, healthwise, that has been bothering me for the past couple of years,” Djokovic said. “A lot of issues, especially when it is humid and it is hot.” The Serbian star did not name or elaborate on the health issue. He had anticipated the humidity heading into the match but noted that other factors, including nerves, “make it worse.” Djokovic during the match Saturday.Emilee Chinn / Getty Images Djokovic congratulated Tirante after the match. Why I hope Novak Djokovic gets the applause he deserves with new documentary

Why I hope Novak Djokovic gets the applause he deserves with new documentary

This article first appeared in Radio Times magazine. When I wrote about Boris Johnson last month, readers complained I’d been either too harsh on our former PM or not damning enough. So this week I thought I’d play safe and write about Novak Djokovic… That’s a joke, for no athlete inspires stronger opinions. For starters, Djokovic is one of the few people my editor and I disagree on (see also Ronaldo). And my pal in Melbourne who witnessed first-hand his 2022 Australian Open Covid vaccine debacle tells me, “I didn’t like him before, and then we had to chuck him out. So arrogant.” Or possibly misunderstood. How can a sportsman who has achieved so much in his field prove so polarising? In Jason Hehir’s new Prime Video documentary about him, one sports reporter comments, “We don’t make champions villains very often. And Djokovic’s response is to kick arse.” The fruits of such kicking are plain to see: the most men’s singles grand slam titles (24), the longest time spent at number one (428 weeks!), plus …

Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic LIVE: Wimbledon 2026 semi-final latest result and reaction

Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic LIVE: Wimbledon 2026 semi-final latest result and reaction

Sinner has looked in excellent form since a surprise wobble in the opening round as he was taken all the way in a five-set comeback win by Miomir Kecmanovic, defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter-finals and not dropping a further set in victories over Nuno Borges, Jenson Brooksby and Shintaro Mochizuki. He may well be fresher than Djokovic, who beat third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in a draining epic on Tuesday having seen off Roman Safiullin, Arthur Rinderknech, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Wu Yibing. Wimbledon Order of Play today: Day 12 schedule with Arthur Fery and Novak Djokovic in semi-final action

Wimbledon Order of Play today: Day 12 schedule with Arthur Fery and Novak Djokovic in semi-final action

The Briton is looking to become the first home hope to reach the final at the All England Club in a decade, 10 years on from Sir Andy Murray’s second triumph in 2016. The 23-year-old is also the second wildcard entry to reach the last four, after Goran Ivanisevic in 2001. The Croat went on to beat Pat Rafter and lift the trophy 25 years ago, defeating Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman en route. In action: Arthur Fery Getty Zverev, the French Open champion, progressed after his own three-set win over Taylor Fritz out on Court No1. After the conclusion of Fery’s match, tennis past and present collide as Novak Djokovic, eyeing a 25th Grand Slam title, faces off against Jannik Sinner. The world No1 is the defending champion at this year’s Championships, after usurping Carlos Alcaraz last year to claim a maiden grass-court crown. Alcaraz missed this year’s tournament through injury, which has opened up the draw and forced Sinner and Djokovic to meet before the final, which takes place on Sunday. Wimbledon Order …

Novak Djokovic survives five-hour thriller to reach Wimbledon semis

Novak Djokovic survives five-hour thriller to reach Wimbledon semis

Djokovic serves first and wins the opening point, 1-0. AA overcooks another backhand, 2-0, missing by a long way. AA gobbles up a loopy return to send down a forehand winner, 2-1 Djokovic. The Serb doesn’t get lucky this time with another net chord, instead the ball sits up perfectly for AS to engineer a backhand volley, 2-2. Big return from AA to execute a fine angle on a forehand winner 2-3 AA. AA finds the net with a tame forehand effort 3-4. The Canadian strokes a sliced volley which Djokovic scampers towards but loops beyond the baseline. 4-3 AA, who then overcooks his return on Djokovic’s serve, 4-4. The Serb follows up with a superb backhand down the line to lead 5-4.   HUGE serve from AA, 5-5. Just the slow 124 mph..a timely ace and eighth of this set. His subsequent serve is another quality one to pile the pressure on Djokovic, 6-5. The Serb serves out wide to target AA’s weaker backhand and is rewarded… 6-6. Nothing to separate these two at …

Novak Djokovic mission to win eighth Wimbledon still alive

Novak Djokovic mission to win eighth Wimbledon still alive

Hello and welcome to coverage from Wimbledon as Novak Djokovic takes on Arthur Rinderknech. The seven-time champion was in imperious form on Wednesday as he eased past Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight-sets under the roof. Today he opens the schedule on Centre Court against Frenchman Rinderknech.  “Obviously you feel very happy, satisfied and joyful on the court when you are playing this way,” Djokovic said after beating Tsitsipas. “I’m feeling great. I try not to take these moments for granted when playing on the Centre Court of Wimbledon. I feel ‌very privileged to be walking out on this court at age 30-plus. I don’t think it’s a cliche because I actually believe it’s true, but age is just a number.” The Serbian is expected to step out again sporting a ‌cream blazer and if he wins today, he will be one victory shy of matching Roger Federer’s men’s record of 105 match-wins at Wimbledon. Djokovic suffered a couple of slips on Wednesday but he is not overly concerned. “It’s grass,” he said. “You’re going to fall …

Novak Djokovic has made a winning start to his quest for a record-breaking 25th major title at Wimbledon.
