Mother Arrested After Toddler Pulls Loaded Gun From Backpack At Michigan Daycare

Published by Jenni Sidey

A toddler pulled a loaded handgun from a backpack inside a Michigan daycare Monday, leaving a teacher to step in before anyone was hurt. The child’s mother has been arrested, while the father, reportedly a Detroit police officer, is the subject of a separate departmental review. Local reporting describes an incident captured on surveillance video and a criminal investigation into the circumstances. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office told ABC News that an arraignment is expected Thursday, October 1. The Wednesday update, carried by AOL, did not specify the charges. On Tuesday, prosecutors had said a warrant request was still under review. The incident occurred at Children’s World Early Learning Center in Canton Township, west of Detroit. Cox Media Group reported Wednesday, citing Detroit’s WXYZ, that the arrested mother is a nurse and that the child’s father works for the Detroit Police Department. Police had not publicly supplied the toddler’s exact age. A Teacher Intervenes According to a message from the center reviewed by Detroit’s WDIV, staff became aware of the weapon when the child removed …

Sam Alito is locked and loaded for another term

Published by Sam Flores

A month after National Public Radio’s Nina Totenberg announced that Sam Alito was retiring (a story NPR later had to retract), the 76-year-old jurist told the Wall Street Journal in an interview, “Obviously, I’m here for another term.” Looking at the docket for the coming term, it is easy to see why. Even after overturning Roe… Source link

I tested a new Debian Linux loaded with local AI – see if it’s right for you

Jack Wallen/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Shadowfetch aims to bring local AI and Linux together. This distro makes installing LLMs and agents easy. The distro is very early stage of development. For many, the idea of AI invading Linux is blasphemy. There are, however, those who believe it is an inevitability and have fully embraced the concept. Even Linux creator Linus Torvalds has told anti-AI developers to “fork off.” Now, one developer has taken Debian and twisted it into a local AI workstation that would make a great tool for your AI needs. Use it for general AI chats, to help you develop apps, or just about anything where AI could assist. Also: Linus Torvalds puts his foot down, tells anti-AI programmers to ‘fork it’ The distribution is Shadowfetch. Before I continue, however, a caveat: This distro is in the very early stages of development, and it appears to have only one developer working on it, which means it might progress very slowly. Even so, it’s …

Trump: “1000 missiles are locked and loaded” for Iran if he’s killed

Published by Sam Flores

President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran on Saturday, claiming he has already given the U.S. military standing orders to unleash a massive retaliatory strike if Tehran carries out or attempts to carry out an assassination against him. “1,000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that the military had already received orders to “completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran” for a one-year period if such an attack were to occur. The president’s comments came amid renewed threats from Iran following the recent U.S.-Iran conflict and reports that Tehran continues to view Trump as a target for retaliation over the 2020 U.S. killing of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in addition to the assassination of its most recent leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. But while Trump’s language suggested a preauthorized military response, constitutional experts say no president can predetermine how a successor would respond to such an attack. Under the Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act, if a president dies in office, the vice president immediately becomes president and commander in …

The Supreme Court is in its final sprint. President Trump’s agenda is on the line as the justices dash to hand down their remaining decisions by their self-imposed deadline of the end of June.  With 20 argued cases left, the court’s pace is exactly on par with this time last term.  But among those remaining cases are potentially seismic… Source link

14 Best Pomades For Men 2026: Keep Your Hair Locked and Loaded

Published by Jenni Sidey

Of course, the amount of product used will have an impact. Adjust your use based on the volume and density of your hair, as well as how long you want the product to maintain its hold. Lastly, pomade can be used as an additive to your other hair products. Pomade mixes well with most other water-based products, too. So maybe your best choice in a pomade is the most universal one of them all (like, from our list, Blind Barber, Uppercut, or American Crew), and then just mix in a smidge with your usual styling product. How We Tested Tested and reviewed by Adam Hurley I’ve been testing grooming products for over a decade, and in that span, my hair has gone from thinning to thick (thank you, hair transplant and hair retention efforts), as well as from short to long and back again. I use them on the regular, taking note of how each pomade interacts with my hair and how it holds up throughout the day. Any time a product doesn’t meet my …

“LOCKED AND LOADED”: Trump orders Hormuz blockade

Published by Sam Flores

After more than 20 hours of negotiations failed to produce a ceasefire agreement in the Iran War, the Trump administration moved to escalate its response, announcing plans to blockade the Strait of Hormuz. In announcing the move, Donald Trump framed the blockade as a direct response to failed talks, arguing that Iran had refused to abandon its nuclear ambitions and was using control of the strait as leverage. He said U.S. forces would interdict vessels and clear potential mines, while also signaling a readiness to escalate militarily if needed. Vice President J.D. Vance led roughly 21 hours of talks aimed at easing tensions involving Iran, but the discussions ended without a breakthrough. Key sticking points remained unresolved, leaving no clear path to de-escalation. Vice President JD Vance gives an update in Pakistan: “The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon.” pic.twitter.com/il4THN5DwV — The White House (@WhiteHouse) …

I set up a RAM disk on Linux with one line of code and my apps have never loaded faster

Published by skeptic

After setting up a quick Linux build, my system still felt a bit off. This wasn’t a case of crashing programs nor the regular bugs you expect on a fresh setup. Things were just a second slower than I would like. Installs seemed to drag, and I saw minor delays during routine tasks. This was a bit puzzling because I had low RAM usage and my SSD was fine. So, I decided to change how my system handles constant small reads and writes by switching to a RAM disk, which required a single fstab entry and redirecting some high-activity folders. It’s the most instant I have ever seen a system go from lagging to fast. Where a RAM disk actually makes a difference It’s not about everything—it’s about the right kind of workload When you use a RAM disk, you are effectively treating a section of your memory like a storage drive. It’s not just a technique for improved raw speed. It actually dramatically reduces latency, especially for workflows that require frequent small-file reads and …

Thames shipwreck loaded with explosives is ‘sitting duck’ for drone attacks

Published by Sam Flores

When the SS Richard Montgomery set sail for Normandy in 1944, the threat posed by the Luftwaffe and U-boats loomed large. The American Liberty-class cargo ship was carrying large quantities of munitions to France to consolidate the Allies’ D-Day gains, but a storm meant she never got further than the Thames. Now, a shipwreck at the bottom of the river off Sheerness, Kent, the vessel has become a “sitting duck” for drone attacks by Russia and Iran. Last year, aircraft were banned from flying over the wreck, which has 1,400 tons of explosives on board, because of fears that hostile nations were plotting to attack it, it can be revealed. In October, it was reported that an ally of Vladimir Putin had told Russian state TV that Moscow should target the ship. Russia is believed to be behind a series of drone sightings near military installations across Europe. The detonation of the Richard Montgomery could trigger “mass damage and loss of life” by sending a 5m-high tsunami towards Kent, Essex and Britain’s largest liquefied natural …

‘Loaded water’ is hyped as a secret to hydration. But adding electrolytes is merely effort down the drain | Natasha May

‘Loaded water’ is hyped as a secret to hydration. But adding electrolytes is merely effort down the drain | Natasha May

Attitudes towards hydration have become another faultline in the generational divide: while the giant “emotional support” water bottle is ubiquitous among gen Z, those of the writer Ian McEwan’s vintage find the modern obsession with hydration “deranged”. McEwan and his ilk will be even more perplexed then that even those guzzling from their Stanley Cups throughout the day are being told they are still not sufficiently hydrating themselves. Influencers are telling their followers they “don’t understand what hydration is” if they’re not adding electrolytes such as sodium and chloride (salt) as well as magnesium and potassium to their water to help their cells “hold on to and use” it. Often spruiking the sachets wellness companies are selling, they claim these fancy salt formulations are essential to avoiding migraines and muscle cramps, anxiety and mood swings. Some TikTokers are adding sachets alongside other ingredients such as coloured ice cubes, edible glitter and fruit into the aforementioned massive cup in a trend known as “loaded water”. But what do the experts say – is plain old water …
