Telegraph Sport has been told a number of stakeholders and factors are taken into consideration when it comes to Premier League fixture scheduling, including fans’ travel arrangements, clubs competing in other competitions, broadcast slots and local authority matters including policing. A ban was also introduced three years ago on TNT picking teams for the Saturday 12.30pm slot if they were playing away in the Champions League the Wednesday night beforehand. TNT is also prohibited from selecting a single club for that slot on more than six occasions. Klopp still furious at VAR howler in Liverpool defeat to Tottenham Klopp says he has ‘500 reasons’ for wanting to beat Tottenham this weekend following the controversial meeting of the sides earlier this season. Liverpool were denied a legal Luis Diaz goal in their 2-1 defeat to Spurs in October, VAR failing to communicate correctly that the Colombian was onside. The PGMOL admitted ‘significant human error’ after the audio revealed a shambolic process which failed to inform referee Simon Cooper to give the goal. Klopp remains livid that …
These are bees as you’ve never seen them before. There are more than 20,000 known species of bee and they are vital to life on Earth, as they help keep plants thriving. Pic: Pete Carr A collaboration between artist Wolfgang Buttress and World Museum, Liverpool, it uses close-up photography, sound, sculpture and light to show the impact the modern world is having on bees. “Bees can be seen as sentinels of the earth,” said Buttress. “Their health and wellbeing mirror the health of the Earth and they are dying in unprecedented numbers. “Their existential challenges reflect our own – they die and suffer, we die and suffer.” Bees are threatened by a number of factors including the use of pesticides, their loss of habitat, and intensive farming, according to Friends of the Earth. No Continental League Cup, no FA Cup, no Champions League and, whisper it, possibly no trophy at all. Emma Hayes certainly thinks so, the Chelsea manager saying “the title is done”, after the Blues suffered a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool to hand Manchester City the advantage in the title race. “I think the title is done,” she said. “Of course, mathematically it’s not, but I think the title is done. Our job between now and the end of the season is to keep pushing until the end, but I think it will be very difficult.” It was end-to-end at Prenton Park, with four of the goals coming from the 80th minute onwards. Chelsea desperately needed a win to stay in the hunt, having suffered the disappointment of a Conti Cup final defeat to Arsenal, FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United and Champions League semi-final exit to Barcelona. “We knew they were a little bit vulnerable after how the last month has been for them,” said Liverpool’s manager, Matt Beard. “When you go in front …
Incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot could turn to his Feyenoord connections for new signings in the summer, with one player already being linked. Liverpool are close to appointing Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor after reaching an agreement with the Dutch team. Klopp will depart in the summer after nine years in charge. The club settled on Slot after interest cooled in Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim and earlier no.1 target Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the job by revealing his intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen. Former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel believes that the existing Dutch players at Anfield will have to step up and play a big role this summer – and he hinted at …
Arne Slot caught the eye of Liverpool’s recruitment team with his track record of improving young talent, success on a relatively modest budget, European experience and a style of play that is not a dramatic departure from Jürgen Klopp’s. The Feyenoord coach has earned a reputation for high intensity on the pitch and has led his team to success multiple times. Since joining the Rotterdam club from AZ Alkmaar in 2021, Slot has won the Eredivisie in 2022-23 and the KNVB Cup this season. He also led Feyenoord to the Europa Conference League final in 2022, where they lost to José Mourinho’s Roma. Source link
And so there will be no glorious farewell for Jürgen Klopp. Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham, coupled with victories for Manchester City and Arsenal, means any realistic hope of a second Premier League title is effectively over. Klopp is exhausted, his team is exhausted and the manic emotional energy that gripped the side during the League Cup final and immediately after has dissipated. There will be questions about the wisdom of revealing when he did that he would be leaving. This has been a truism if English soccer since Alex Ferguson announced in 2001 that he planned to quit Manchester United. Do that, even if you’re as fearsome a figure as Ferguson, and the danger is that authority wanes. Something similar seems to have happened with Emma Hayes, who will leave Chelsea Women in the summer after a hugely successful 12-year stint to take charge of the USWNT. Would Saturday’s touchline spat with Mohamed Salah have happened had the Egyptian thought that Klopp would still be his manager next season? (It now seems likely …

On the podcast today: the panel discuss all the weekend’s Premier League action, including the north London derby, as Arsenal put the pressure on Manchester City with a 3-2 win over Tottenham. With a routine win for City despite Forest playing well and West Ham holding Liverpool to a 2-2 draw, surely we can now conclude that the Premier League is a two-horse race? Also, what’s the ‘fire’ Mohammed Salah was referring to after his touchline spat with Jürgen Klopp. Will Newcastle sell Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimarães to balance their books in the summer? Are Sheffield United going to break the Premier League goals-against record? Plus, the panel discusses the Football League as Cambridge survive and Leeds implode. When it comes to picking one image to symbolise the end of an era at Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp’s quarrel with Mohamed Salah on the London Stadium touchline will take some beating. This is what happens when power slips away. This, sadly, is the way that it ends. We will have to speculate about the specific reason behind the row that grabbed the attention after Liverpool’s deflating 2-2 draw with West Ham on Saturday. West Ham’s equaliser had arrived before Klopp, who had been waiting to make a triple substitution, was able to introduce Salah, Darwin Núñez and Joe Gomez. The manager seemed miffed and appeared to admonish Salah, whose angry response made it very clear that he had zero interest in listening to any criticism. It was quite the scene. Salah clearly did not regard Klopp as a figure of authority. Instead of holding back, the Egyptian had to be held back by two of his teammates. Later, as he made his way out of the stadium and walked past reporters, he declined interview requests and …
Mohamed Salah ruined Jürgen Klopp’s attempt to play down his touchline row with the winger by saying there would be “fire” if he stopped to speak after Liverpool’s faltering title challenge suffered another blow in their 2-2 draw at West Ham. Salah, who was dropped after Liverpool’s midweek defeat at Everton, cut a disgruntled figure while he was waiting to come off the bench at the London Stadium. The winger reacted badly after Klopp, whose side were chasing a late winner after squandering a 2-1 lead, tried to speak to him. The incident ended with Darwin Núñez, another substitute, having to pull Salah away from Liverpool’s manager. Klopp, who is set to be replaced by Feyenoord’s Arne Slot at the end of the season, did not want to dwell on the incident. “We spoke about it in the dressing room and that is done for me,” he said. Asked if Salah was also ready to move on, Klopp added: “That was my impression.” But Salah did not appear to be happy when he walked past …
