Collins’s Kavanaugh vote becomes key weapon for opponents

Democrats and reproductive rights groups are zeroing in on Sen. Susan Collins’s (R-Maine) vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh as a pillar of their campaign to oust her, arguing she paved the way for the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.  On Friday, Maine Democratic Senate nominee Troy Jackson released an ad blasting… Source link

On The Kavanaugh Anniversary, Democratic Leaders Swap Me Too For Maine

On The Kavanaugh Anniversary, Democratic Leaders Swap Me Too For Maine

Authored by Jonathan Turley, …on the eighth anniversary of the Kavanaugh nomination. It now appears that there are some women who are not to be believed… when the Senate may be in the balance.. “It’s clear the fix is in.” Those words from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). came with her vote against confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Warren was outraged that her fellow senators refused to believe a woman who came forward with a decades-old allegation against Kavanaugh that lacked any corroboration. It now appears that Kavanaugh’s former accusers are making the case that he was treated unjustly at their hands. At least they are now willing to swap “Me Too” for Maine. Warren’s words were part of a mantra from Democratic members that either you believe women about sexual harassment and assault, or you are enabling abusers. It was almost exactly eight years ago, in July 2018, that President Trump nominated Kavanaugh to fill the seat of retiring Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy. Kavanaugh, who was at first a very uncontroversial nominee, suddenly became the target of …

‘SNL’ opens with Hegseth, Patel and Kavanaugh drinking at DC bar

The latest “Saturday Night Live” (“SNL”) cold open featured actors playing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, FBI Director Kash Patel and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh drinking at a bar in the nation’s capital.  The show started with Hegseth, played by Colin Jost, entering Martin’s Tavern in Georgetown. He ordered a “shot of beer with a… Source link

Pete Hegseth and Brett Kavanaugh go drinking in ‘SNL’ Cold Open

Depending on who you ask, the last people you’d want to stand next to at your neighborhood bar are the man who started the Iran war and the man who helped end abortion (their words, not ours). That’s the premise of SNL’s latest Cold Open, where Colin Jost’s Pete Hegseth sulks into a barstool lamenting that nobody left in the Trump Administration can keep up with him drink-for-drink. That is, until Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh comes stumbling in, played by this weekend’s host Matt Damon. The two spend much of the sketch bonding over everything they’ve managed to accomplish — or inflict, depending on your perspective — since taking office. Hegseth is beside himself at the prospect of the Iran conflict actually ending and leaving him without a reason to exist, while Kavanaugh is in full waterworks mode over the “male loneliness epidemic.” Rough night for powerful men. Things do take a turn for the chaotic, however, when Aziz Ansari returns as FBI Director Kash Patel, instantly shifting the energy from sad-drunk to dangerous-drunk. …

Damon joined Colin Jost’s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Aziz Ansari’s FBI Director Kash Patel in a Washington, DC bar where the three bonded over drinks. “It’s nice to have my sneaky bar here where I’m not going to run into anyone from work, because none of Trump’s people like drinking as much as I do,” Jost’s Hegseth says just as Damon’s Kavanaugh busted through the bar crowd, still wearing his justice robe. The judge bangs his gavel on the bar and says: “Order! I find in favor of six Bud Lights and three shots of Jamo!” The barman, played by Kenan Thompson replies: “Yep, a 6-3 decision coming …

Contempt Of Court: Justice Sotomayor Suggests Justice Kavanaugh Is An Uninformed Elitist

Contempt Of Court: Justice Sotomayor Suggests Justice Kavanaugh Is An Uninformed Elitist

Authored by Jonathan Turley, Justice Brett Kavanaugh is accustomed to unrelenting personal attacks from the left that began with his nomination to the Court. This week, however, the ad hominem insults came not from cable programs but a colleague.  Justice Sonia Sotomayor used an appearance at the University of Kansas School of Law to level a personal dig at Kavanaugh as an out-of-touch elitist. I have long criticized the growing number of public statements by justices on controversial subjects and cases, including Justice Sotomayor. However, this appearance represented a new low in lashing out at a colleague as effectively blinded by his own privilege. In her comments, Sotomayor raised Kavanaugh’s concurrence in Noem v. Vasquez Perdomo: “I had a colleague in that case who wrote, you know, these are only temporary stops. This is from a man whose parents were professionals. And probably doesn’t really know any person who works by the hour… Those hours that they took you away, nobody’s paying that person. And that makes a difference between a meal for him and his kids that night and maybe just cold …
