German space company HyImpulse granted licence to launch rockets from UK | UK News

A German rocket firm has been granted a launch licence by UK regulators – and it plans to blast off from the Shetland Islands early next year. HyImpulse, which builds commercial rockets, received the launch operator licence on Thursday from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The company was granted the right to launch after it passed a regulatory review process. HyImpulse is aiming to launch its SR75 suborbital vehicle in spring 2027. Image: Pic: HyImpulse The rocket will be used for a number of research projects, with its design set to help it take off in a wider array of environmental conditions. It is not intended to launch satellites, but other firms plan to use SaxaVord Spaceport on Unst for commercial space launches. HyImpulse also hopes to launch an orbital rocket called SL1 from SaxaVord in the future. Image: The SR75 suborbital rocket. Ariana Grande Granted Expedited Subpoenas In Lawsuit Over Music Leaks

Ariana Grande has been granted expedited discovery in the pop star’s lawsuit over hackers stealing her unreleased music and photos, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Grande first filed her lawsuit against unnamed John Does in July, alleging that hackers had targeted devices of people in her inner circle to steal unreleased music, photos and other materials, subsequently selling the content online on the “dark web for significant sums of money.” Grande’s team filed a request for expedited third-party deposition subpoenas shorter than the usual required waiting period, noting that her team has “identified certain Internet platforms and third-party entities whose services were used to perpetrate the illegal dissemination and transactions, and which are believed to have information and data that will allow Plaintiff to identify and unmask these unknown Defendants.” The court granted that request, noting that “it makes little sense to wait” given that Grande doesn’t have any specific defendants to serve. “And on the merits of the motion, good cause is shown,” judge Mark H. Epstein ruled on …

Greta Lee Found ‘Late Fame.’ She’s Not Taking It for Granted

Greta Lee Found ‘Late Fame.’ She’s Not Taking It for Granted

Greta Lee knows the feeling of breaking out a little late. The Los Angeles native, who studied theater at Northwestern University and stood out with supporting roles in hit shows like Girls and Russian Doll over the first decade-plus of her career, was a kind of comic utility player onscreen until her transfixing dramatic turn in Past Lives. That Oscar-nominated movie, directed by new A24 favorite Celine Song, hit theaters a few months after Lee had turned 40 in 2023, going on to net her a Golden Globe nomination and wide critical acclaim. Past Lives ushered in a new chapter for Lee: She earned an Emmy nom for her role in Apple’s blockbuster series The Morning Show, took on key roles in massive Disney projects like Tron: Ares and Toy Story 5, and — perhaps the highest marker of status in Hollywood these days — played herself in an episode of The Studio.  With more notoriety comes more choice, and so it’s notable that Lee’s next big project is Late Fame, a scrappy indie helmed …

DOJ Seeks To Rescind US Citizenship Granted To 10 Individuals

Authored by Naveen Athrappully via The Epoch Times, The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Monday that it has filed to denaturalize 10 individuals charged or convicted with various crimes, including offenses against minors. “Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, a naturalized U.S. citizen’s citizenship may be revoked, and certificate of naturalization canceled, if the naturalization was illegally procured or procured by concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation,” the DOJ said in a July 20 statement, adding that the Trump administration was continuing its “largest denaturalization effort ever.” One of the individuals targeted for denaturalization is Rodriguez Perez, 45, of Cuban origin, who was naturalized as an American in 2018. Prior to obtaining citizenship, Perez engaged in Medicare fraud worth more than $886,694 and concealed this conduct during the naturalization process. Perez pleaded guilty in the case and was convicted of conspiracy to commit healthcare and wire fraud. Another individual, Urbano Vazquez Ortega, 53, a Mexican naturalized in July 2017, had sexually assaulted children while being employed as a church priest in …

Boomers Took 9 Ordinary Parts Of Childhood For Granted That Kids Today Rarely Experience

Boomers Took 9 Ordinary Parts Of Childhood For Granted That Kids Today Rarely Experience

When you’re a kid, the normal parts of your life seem like they’ll never go away. Maybe it’s teasing your younger sibling or playing in the snow after a winter storm. But then you start to grow up and realize that all the time you spent doing these things was precious. For baby boomers, they took many ordinary parts of childhood for granted, and now, kids today will rarely, if ever, experience the same things. It’s a generation of iPads and wearing makeup from a young age, rather than a free-roaming, resilience-oriented childhood. Boomers took these normal parts of childhood for granted, and kids today rarely experience them 1. Playing outside until the streetlights came on David Tadevosian | Shutterstock It wasn’t uncommon to befriend the neighborhood kids and ask if they wanted to play. The only rules for the day was the warning from your parents reminding you to come back when the streetlights came on, or when the sun set. These days of freedom running around were certainly taken for granted, likely because …

Caroline Frost: ‘If we take the BBC for granted, we’re fools’

Caroline Frost: ‘If we take the BBC for granted, we’re fools’

25 years ago, I was on a boating holiday off the coast of Turkey. The captain spoke barely five words of English, a barrier swiftly overcome when he discovered who I worked for: now that was something he could understand. For the following week, he summoned me to meals on deck with a three-letter bellow: “Bee-Bee-Ceeee!” Times they have a-changed, at least for Brits, who no longer seem to share our overseas cousins’ fondness for our century-old national broadcaster – if we believe what we’re always being told. With charter renewal only 18 months away, newspaper headlines bark about its irrelevance, wokeness and badly behaved stars – which makes you wonder, if chief antagonists Murdoch and the Daily Mail got their way and brought down the BBC, how on earth would they then fill their pages? Meanwhile, elsewhere on the battlefield, there is the unstoppable rise of the streamers. In the past, Adolescence would have been a Channel 4 drama, instead it’s a multiple award-winner for Netflix. Previously, writer Neil Forsyth would surely have followed …

Iran’s World Cup Squad Belatedly Granted US Visas But Some Staff Blocked

Via Middle East Eye Members of Iran’s World Cup 2026 administrative staff have not been given visas to enter the United States, Iranian media reported on Saturday. According to US officials, while Iranian footballers have been granted visas for the tournament, which begins on Thursday in Mexico, some support staff are reportedly not being allowed to join the squad. via Reuters On Friday, a White House official told Reuters that the players had received their visas, after Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh, said on Thursday that they had not. Iran plays its first match on June 16 against New Zealand in Los Angeles, California. Its participation in the tournament has been the subject of much speculation after the US and Israel launched their war on Iran at the end of February. Negotiations between the US and Iran are continuing, but both sides have continued to fire on enemy targets. Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that the Iranian staff not granted visas include Mehdi Kharati, the executive director; Hedayat Mombini, the secretary general of the football federation; and Mohsen Motamedkia, …

New Zealand can no longer take its security for granted, says defence minister as military spending rises

New Zealand can no longer take its security for granted, says defence minister as military spending rises

A MORE CONTESTED WORLD  The defence minister said the military investment reflects a changing threat environment shaped by growing strategic competition and conflicts beyond New Zealand’s shores.  “We live in a world where there is competition and contest, even within our region. Further afield, there’s conflict,” Penk said, pointing to wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and their implications for the international rules-based order and global economic security.  “We need to increase our defence investment to resource our navy, army and air force to be able to meet the needs of New Zealand in our region and further afield.”  Maritime capability is one of New Zealand’s most urgent priorities, he said, noting that by the mid-2030s most ships in the nation’s naval fleet are expected to have reached the end of their design life.  The government is evaluating options to replace its frigates and other naval assets, alongside investments in air assets and uncrewed technologies.  DEEPENING ENGAGEMENT WITH ASIA  Alongside military modernisation, Wellington is seeking to strengthen its engagement across Asia.  “The Asia region …
