One warm mid-spring weekend is all it takes for me to start conjuring up evenings dining in the garden. Not the usual solitary potter around with a drink in one hand and a pair of secateurs in the other (we are on the cusp of deadheading season, when the best ornamentals will produce another flush if the spent flowers are removed). This is very pleasant, but I’m talking about those longer soirees that unfurl from glorious afternoons into alfresco cosiness. I love entertaining outside. For one, it’s more practical: when I lived in a chaotic shared house in London a decade ago, outdoor parties were always preferred because the clean-up never involved mopping. But it’s also more magical: there’s something about candlelight against a darkening garden that you just can’t get inside. I have hosted tiny dinners on balconies, where the best place to put your feet was on the railings. Everyone has an expectation of privacy in their own home. But for one mum she discovered this had been “violated” after her neighbour’s CCTV camera was angled directly into her back garden.  The anonymous Mumsnet user said she was left stunned when she mistakenly found out that the house next door had been recording her garden and hot tub. King Charles’s annual garden parties at Buckingham Palace made a return earlier today, the first one of the season. Traditionally, more than 30,000 guests spend a relaxed afternoon in the scenic grounds of the official London-based royal residence. According to the Royal Family’s official website, the parties are an “important way for His Majesty to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life”. As reported previously by HELLO!, the annual garden parties host around 8,000 people by invite-only – with around 27,000 cups of tea being served to those in attendance. A nine-year-old boy, sweetly nicknamed Princess Kate’s “best friend” has been left devastated after missing the Buckingham Palace garden party after getting stuck in traffic for hours. A performance of In The Night Garden in Cardiff at the weekend was suspended after reports of a “threatening phone call”. South Wales Police said they were called to the New Theatre in the Welsh capital on Saturday after reports of a “threatening phone call having been made to the premises”. The force said its officers conducted a “thorough search of the premises” and “no items of concern were found”. “A full evacuation of the theatre took place,” the spokesperson added. Their investigation is ongoing into what they believe to be a “malicious hoax”. In the Night Garden Live is currently touring the UK and was in Cardiff from 2 to 4 May. It features characters from the BBC children’s series, including Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka.
