The Knowledge. How ambitious is Labour on work experience?

The Knowledge. How ambitious is Labour on work experience?

More from this theme Recent articles Last week, the Social Market Foundation published a fascinating report, Things worth knowing, which looks at the role of ‘assumed knowledge’ in youth transitions from education to employment. Their evidence shows that young people from more privileged backgrounds and those with graduate parents appear more confident and adept at navigating their way through the education system into careers. Nick Brook, CEO of Speakers for Schools, which supported the study, highlighted that one of the most effective ways of filling pupils’ gaps in knowledge of the world of work is through quality work experience. At The Key Group, we agree that giving pupils access to the workplace is essential to their success. But our report on the national state of work experience, published this week,  indicates that less than half of pupils do even one week’s work experience. Nearly 7,000 schools in England now use Arbor as their management information system (MIS). Working with the attendance data that Arbor collects, we have gained insights at a national level around work …

Men experience stronger social disconnect due to smartphones than women

Men experience stronger social disconnect due to smartphones than women

A recent study published in the journal Technology, Mind, and Behavior found that smartphones can negatively impact social connectedness and well-being, but the extent of these effects depends on the situation and varies by the gender of the user. Men, in particular, tend to experience a greater negative impact on social connection than women. In recent years, debates have intensified about whether smartphones and other digital media negatively affect well-being. Some studies have linked increased smartphone use to worsening mental health, while others suggest the impact may be as minor as eating certain foods. One issue with past research is that much of it has been correlational, meaning it can’t definitively say whether phone use causes negative outcomes or if people already feeling disconnected or unhappy turn to their phones more often. In their new study, the researchers aimed to overcome these limitations by analyzing experimental data to provide clearer insights into how phone use affects well-being in various real-world situations. They wanted to understand not only if phones harm social connection and well-being, but …

Healing For The Rejection We All Experience – OpentheWord.org

“He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (Isaiah 53:3) By Kevin H. Grenier My father died on my sixth birthday. Leukemia. I soon found that I had lost my mom as well. Her need to work and her own emotional pain crowded nurturing and time together out of my life. Then, two moves in the next three years made me the new kid in town that got picked on by everyone else. By seventh grade, things had changed. I was well-liked and accepted. But I had no friends — no one to whom I revealed my true self. Why? I had experienced enough rejection by then that I was unwilling to risk being rejected again. There are three different types of rejection we can struggle with. The simplest is performance rejection. This occurs when we experience criticism for our actions that is not given in love. While such rejection stings, it …

Enhancing Human Experience and Building Community

Enhancing Human Experience and Building Community

On the dynamic stage of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center in Miami Beach, camera lenses peer out like eyes, ready to stream virtuosic musicians performing their craft to audiences around the world. The campus’s Knight New Media Center has emerged as a beacon for artists and technologists alike, serving as a laboratory of innovation and artistic exploration. Craig Webb, of Gehry Partners, the architect behind the space, calls the center “a place for artists to explore, requiring collaboration between visual artists and musicians.” The works created there are shining examples of what Knight Foundation has been investing in for years: art that integrates technology in ways that enhance human relationships. Knight Foundation “What these organizations have to do is understand how people consume visual information today,” says Philip Kennicott, chief art and architecture critic for The Washington Post. “More often than not, it’s not butts in seats, but rather eyes on phones, headphones in ears, and possibly hundreds of miles in between locations. Artists and arts leaders must adapt to this present and accelerating …

Experience the Epic Journey in Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mas

Unveiling the Herculean Twist Holy Kronos, buckle up folks, ’cause Jasmine Mas is about to take you on one wild ride through a world where Greek mythology gets a major facelift. “Blood of Hercules” isn’t your grandma’s bedtime story—it’s a dark, sassy, and downright addictive reimagining that’ll have you questioning everything you thought you knew about demigods and monsters. The Lowdown on this Mythological Mayhem Alright, picture this: a world overrun by Titans (yeah, those big bad immortal creatures), where Spartans rule the roost with their godlike powers and obscene wealth. Sounds pretty flucked up, right? Well, throw in our girl Alexis—a shy, stammering foster kid just trying to keep her head above water—and you’ve got yourself a recipe for chaos. From Zero to Hero… Sort of So, Alexis is just minding her own business, covering up her scars (both literal and figurative) and acing her classes, when BAM! A blood test reveals she’s not just any ordinary human—she’s a freaking Spartan. Talk about an identity crisis. Suddenly, our girl’s thrown into the deep end …
