Thrive’s Joshua Kushner chides Silicon Valley VCs over AI euphoria

Thrive’s Joshua Kushner chides Silicon Valley VCs over AI euphoria

In Thrive Capital’s first-ever investor letter, founder Joshua Kushner has some unexpected things to say about his venture capital rivals on the West Coast. “It is difficult to overstate the magnitude of the opportunity,” Kushner wrote about AI in the letter, leaked to Bloomberg. “It would also be a grave error in our minds to let excitement weaken our investment discipline. … Within Silicon Valley in particular, the industry can become fixated on hyperincremental technological turns rather than where the technology ultimately leads.” While his secretive New York-based firm, just like those in Silicon Valley, is betting heavily on AI, Thrive is doing so differently, he argues. There’s no so-called spray-and-pray investing. Thrive tends to go big on the companies it backs. Bloomberg estimates about 90% of its capital is poured into the top 15 investments in each fund. That makes Thrive, he contends, a company of independent thinkers. “We are independent because markets move between fear and enthusiasm, and neither is a substitute for judgment.” His comments are in direct contrast to one of …

Eric Dane shared love for Euphoria in one of his final taped interviews

Eric Dane made clear his deep appreciation for the hit HBO Max series Euphoria in one of the final interviews taped before his death. Dane appeared in the new documentary Euphoria: A Look Back, having filmed the interview before he died in February at age 53. The actor appeared throughout the third and final season of Euphoria, filmed after he revealed his diagnosis with the neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in April 2025. In the documentary, which began streaming Friday on HBO Max, Dane said working on the show as Cal Jacobs — father to Jacob Elordi’s Nate — was “at times challenging, but the challenges were taken as opportunities.” “It’s been such a wonderful experience,” he said, adding that it was also “the most profound experience” of his career. The series’ creator, Sam Levinson, paid tribute to Dane in the documentary, calling him “a wonderful human being” and “a wonderful actor.” Eric Dane filmed season 3 of ‘Euphoria’ in April 2025 just after he announced he had been diagnosed with ALS (HBO) “He showed …

Euphoria Actress Chloe Cherry to Release Memoir

Euphoria Actress Chloe Cherry to Release Memoir

Chloe Cherry is releasing a memoir. Somewhere Dark and Hot will release on Feb. 23, 2027, via Simon & Schuster, the publishing company announced on Friday. The memoir will recount Cherry’s time working in the adult entertainment industry to her ascent into the public eye in Sam Levinson’s HBO drama. At 18, the actress left an emotionally abusive home in Pennsylvania and began working in adult entertainment. Her world shifted when she joined the cast of season two of Euphoria, when Cherry “went from adult-industry outsider to breakout icon, challenging assumptions about who gets to cross over into Hollywood,” per the memoir’s synopsis. “In Somewhere Dark and Hot, Chloe tells the story of how she survived it all and why she regrets none of it. Shocking, funny, and nakedly matter-of-fact, she dismantles the myths we tell about ‘good girls’ and ‘bad choices,’” the synopsis continues. “In the tradition of Julia Fox’s Down the Drain and Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died, Somewhere Dark and Hot is a raw and fearless memoir about girlhood, survival, desire, performance, and the power of …

Colman Domingo Reflects on Euphoria, Directing ‘The Four Seasons’

Colman Domingo Reflects on Euphoria, Directing ‘The Four Seasons’

Colman Domingo has been directed by his fair share of legends, from Steven Spielberg and Ava DuVernay to George Wolfe and Steven Soderbergh. What he’s gleaned from the greats is the necessity of an overarching sense of trust — i.e., talented individuals should be encouraged to do the job that they’ve been hired to do. “That’s what I want to do with my entire cast and crew,” says Domingo, who sat in the director’s chair for his Netflix series, The Four Seasons, for the first time in season two. “I want people to make choices and come with ideas and decisions.” An actor by training, Domingo became a director out of circumstance. While pursuing his decades-long theater career, he often would mount his own productions, finding himself in several key positions other than performer. “I had to figure out how to get into the room when I had no access to being in a room, when people wouldn’t allow me to be in the room,” he says. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t be a producer or director.” …

‘That’s the Scottish way – euphoria or catastrophe’

‘That’s the Scottish way – euphoria or catastrophe’

Rachel Corsie captained Scotland to their first win over England in 34 years in 2011, and led the team into their first ever World Cup finals in 2019. She retired last year with 155 international caps and will now be in Salford as a BBC analyst for coverage of Scotland’s first and last group games. Scotland’s opener against Haiti will be played at 2am BST, with the next day a bank holiday. Will the anticipation be off the scale? It will. This squad is culturally very connected to the incredible feeling in the nation – lots of great career journeys, bringing humbleness. The players enjoy relating to the fans, and in return the fans can do their part. You were eight when Scotland last qualified for the World Cup finals in 1998 – do you remember it at all? I do! Scotland played defending champions Brazil in the opening match. We had a kickabout in the park beforehand, then we all piled back to a mate’s for the game. I remember our penalty most of …

‘Euphoria’ Looked for Epiphanies and Found Nonsense

‘Euphoria’ Looked for Epiphanies and Found Nonsense

The following contains spoilers through the series finale of HBO’s Euphoria. Euphoria’s troubled protagonist, Rue (played by Zendaya), spends much of the drama’s final season dodging one potentially violent death after another. As a drug mule turned strip-club employee turned arms dealer turned informant, she barely survives being buried up to her neck, getting dragged by a horse down a dirt path, and becoming target practice in multiple shoot-outs. Yet when she does die, midway through the series finale, which aired last night, the scene unfolds quietly: Rue, recovering from a long day of double-crossing her employers and suffering a wound on her palm, overdoses on the fentanyl with which her painkillers have secretly been laced. The sequence stands out for its contemplative beauty. Rue, asleep, dreams of walking through her childhood home and seeing her mother, reaching for her before being embraced in return. Reality and fantasy blur. She smiles even as she gasps for air, then drifts off into endless slumber. If only Euphoria had maintained that restraint across the rest of its …

Will there be a ‘Euphoria’ Season 4?

Will there be a ‘Euphoria’ Season 4?

Euphoria Season 3 came to a fittingly dramatic close on Sunday, but did we just watch the end of the season, or the end of the show itself? Given the massive time jump between Seasons 2 and 3, you could be forgiven for thinking that more seasons of writer, director, and creator Sam Levinson’s show wouldn’t be out of the question in future. But when asked, the man himself seems pretty definitive with his answer. SEE ALSO: ‘Euphoria’ actor has surprisingly funny reaction to being almost completely cut from the show Will there be a Euphoria Season 4? Levinson appeared on the New York Times’ Popcast podcast shortly after the release of the Euphoria finale, and was asked directly whether there would be more episodes. “In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me,” Levinson told NYT reporter Joe Coscarelli and critic Jon Caramanica. “It was such a fulfilling journey in terms of this cast, the crew, …

Euphoria star Alexa Demie shuts down retirement rumors: ‘I like my life like this’

Euphoria star Alexa Demie shuts down retirement rumors: ‘I like my life like this’

Alexa Demie is shutting down rumors that she plans to retire after season three of Euphoria. Speculation that 35-year-old Demie — who has played Maddy Perez on the hit HBO series since its premiere in 2019 — started to swirl after a clip resurfaced from a 2020 podcast episode where Demie questioned whether there was space for Latina actors like her in Hollywood. However, she explained to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Sunday that she does not plan to stop acting anytime soon. “It’s like, did you ever think that I don’t want it?” she said about rumors regarding her future in Hollywood. “People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? I like my life like this, and I wouldn’t change it.” Theories that Demie intended to stop acting in recent years were only furthered by her sparse list of acting credits, especially in comparison to her Euphoria co-stars that have taken over the industry, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney. Alexa Demie has …

‘Should be banned’: Love on the Spectrum star condemns Sydney Sweeney’s use of ableist slur in Euphoria

‘Should be banned’: Love on the Spectrum star condemns Sydney Sweeney’s use of ableist slur in Euphoria

Love on the Spectrum star Dani Bowman has condemned the casual use of the r-word on screen after the ableist slur was used in Euphoria. Sydney Sweeney’s character Cassie proclaims she’s “not a r*****” in an episode of Sam Levinson’s HBO drama after she’s accused of sounding like a Democrat. Bowman, who is on the autism spectrum, said it’s “painful” to see the word become “socially acceptable” again, adding that the “dehumanising” term “should be banned”. “We worked way too hard for inclusion and acceptance to normalise the R word again,” the 31-year-old campaigner, told TMZ. “That word has been used for decades to bully, humiliate and dehumanise neurodiverse people, and bringing it back like it’s edgy or funny, it’s not progress. It’s a step backwards.” Bowman said campaigners like her had “spent years trying to educate people that these words hurt real human beings”. “Representation means nothing if respect disappears the second people think it’s trendy to mock disability again,” the star added. The Independent has contacted Sweeney and Levinson’s representatives for comment. ‘Love …
