People Who’ve Grown Slowly Resentful Usually Say 4 Bitter Things In Casual Conversation | Mitzi Bockmann

Unless you have been living in some fairy tale, you know resentment is a destructive factor in romantic relationships. When you first fall in love, it’s fireworks, roses, and warm fuzzies. I’m not saying you can’t or won’t live happily ever after, but I’m saying that doing so is difficult sometimes for those couples in even the happiest, healthiest relationships. Perhaps the best way to illustrate resentment is the metaphor of a thousand cuts: those everyday instances that inflict pain on the other person slowly, brutally waning what once was and reducing the fireworks between the two of you to all but an ember or two. People who have grown slowly resentful usually say these bitter things in casual conversation: 1. *Silence* (using the silent treatment) Passive aggression can be expressed in various ways. For example, your partner may be angry at you for something you may have done (sometimes, it may be perfectly insignificant acts you might not remember) that they’ve bottled up for a week. They haven’t even spoken to you, also known …

Johnny Depp transforms into a bitter Scrooge in new Ebenezer trailer

Johnny Depp transforms into a bitter Scrooge in new Ebenezer trailer

A new full trailer for Ebenezer, the upcoming big-screen reimagining of A Christmas Carol, has arrived – and it gives fans a first look at Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer Scrooge. The new take on the classic Dickens tale from horror movie director Ti West (Pearl, Maxxxine) is coming to cinemas in November. The new trailer sees Depp’s character delivering the character’s trademark “Bah, humbug” to a friendly festive greeting. The character is then confronted by the ghosts of his past, present and future, with one (played by Andrea Riseborough) warning: “Your nightmare has just begun.” The footage also gives us a good look at West’s horror-tinged reimagining of the story, with Scrooge facing supernatural entities and confronted by his own mortality. Inside Sky drama War: Dominic West and Sienna Miller on bitter divorce and 20 years of chemistry

Inside Sky drama War: Dominic West and Sienna Miller on bitter divorce and 20 years of chemistry

Add War to your watchlist “I might have to breastfeed,” Sienna Miller says matter-of-factly, providing proof, should you need it, that she’s one cool mother. She disappears from her Zoom window where, moments before and much to the delight of myself and Dominic West, her co-star in Sky Atlantic’s glossy new legal drama War, she was holding her baby son. “He’s so alert and interested,” West says. “He loves the screen,” Miller replies. “Which is worrying.” On our screens, Miller has been replaced by a photograph of a rodent. “That’s a nice guinea pig,” I say, thrown because I’m a man and no one has ever breastfed during an interview I’ve conducted before. Off-camera and sounding a little distracted, Miller replies: “That’s a hamster.” When she reappears, her baby is horizontal, disrupting the stripes of his mum’s Chanel top. The hamster, it transpires, “didn’t live long”. I wonder how Miller and West feel about getting older. “My life doesn’t feel particularly old at the moment,” Miller, 44, says, “but I enjoy getting older. Given how …

‘Who are yer’ – Andy Burnham mocks Danny Dyer in bitter row | Politics | News

Andy Burnham has mocked Danny Dyer after the former Eastenders actor blasted him in an x-rated tirade. The Rivals star said he “didn’t know” who the current Prime Minister is during a recent protest about sewage. When the BBC managed to get a few minutes with Dyer, he was asked if he had a message about the campaign for the prime minister. In footage shared on X by Keohan, he responded: “I don’t know who the prime minister is, mate. Do you?” When told Andy Burnham is in charge, the 49-year-old replied: “Yeah… but who is he? I don’t understand. Did anyone vote for him? Because I didn’t vote for him. I think we’ve had successive prime ministers that are c***s. End of.” “Put that on the f***ing BBC,” he said, before walking away. Keohan, who has now deleted his X post, wrote alongside the video: “I don’t think we’ll use this clip of Danny Dyer on the news tonight.” She is also married to West Ham United legend Jared Bowen. Joking to reporters en-route …

After five bouts of extreme heat and a harvest almost two weeks earlier than last year, Champagne has had to relax one of its more sacred rules: some wines from the 2026 vintage will be allowed to reach 15 per cent alcohol, up from the usual limit of 13. Not every bottle will suddenly arrive with the clout of a Californian red, but the direction of travel is striking. Maxime Toubart, co-president of the industry body Comité Champagne, has warned that this “unusual harvest will probably become the norm in 10 to 15 years”. Grapes of wrath: heatwaves in France have led to an ‘unusual’ harvest (AFP/Getty) Hot, dry weather pushed grapes to ripen unusually quickly and left them richer in sugar. Yeast turns sugar into …

Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘Bitter Christmas’ Is His Most Personal Film Yet

Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘Bitter Christmas’ Is His Most Personal Film Yet

Bitter Christmas is Pedro Almodóvar’s 24th feature film over the course of 46 years. There’s never been more than a three-year gap between his releases. He won Cannes’ best director prize in the 1990s (All About My Mother), an Oscar for best screenplay in the 2000s (Talk to Her) and the Venice Film Festival’s top prize, the Golden Lion, just two years ago (The Room Next Door). With his latest movie, Bitter Christmas, the 76-year-old Spaniard remains on that restless trajectory, pushing himself deeper into uncharted territory — this time, by turning the camera back on himself. In fact, he does this within several sections of his cinematic nesting doll of a drama. The main plot follows Raúl (Leonardo Sbaraglia), a highly regarded filmmaker in the present day — and resembling Almodóvar in more ways than the spiked silver hair — writing a screenplay inspired by a period of his life from two decades earlier. BitterChristmas shifts between Raúl’s day-to-day, centered on his real-life bonds with assistant Mónica (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón) and boyfriend Santi (Quim Gutiérrez) seeping into his fiction, and the …

How to Eat the Bitter

How to Eat the Bitter

When I was a kid, my parents often said chi ku 吃苦, eat bitter. Sometimes we must endure hard work and pain to build resilience and move through adversity. In my teens, whenever I complained about homework, my parents often said I had to eat bitter and push through the difficult tasks. This was their form of tough love. I often went to my sister for clarification and support; I asked her if they really meant bittersweet. Some sweetness is nice, after all. She shook her head and said, “There’s nothing sweet here, honey, only the bitter.” For this mode of thinking, life requires many doses of bitterness. Imagine not feeling pain while grieving over a loved one’s death; you only deny what is true. The mindset theory can help us eat the bitter. Carol Dweck, a professor of psychology at Stanford University and the author of Mindset: How You Can Fulfill Your Potential, developed the idea of the growth and fixed mindset. People who think that talent is innate—and that they cannot change what …

It is highly critical of Musk and includes damning claims about his past relationships and business pursuits. In an angry tirade shared on X, which he bought for $44 billion in 2022, Musk branded the film a “hit piece that misses.” “Gibney deliberately set out to make a hit piece and lacks any integrity whatsoever,” he said. In another post, he wrote: “Gibney has zero integrity. Zero. Fortunately, his movies are boring af….It’s a hit piece that misses, …

Tories and Reform in bitter war of words over Giorgia Meloni meeting with Kemi Badenoch | Politics | News

Kemi Badenoch has been accused of making up a “pack of lies” about advice she reportedly received from the Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni. In a now redacted news article by a national newspaper, Ms Meloni was reported to have told the Tory leader that a deal with Reform UK would be “monstrous”. But a furious Robert Jenrick, who defected from the Conservative Party to Reform UK earlier this year, lambasted his former leader. Mr Jenrick told the Daily Express: “My advice is if you go and visit a foreign leader, don’t make up a pack of lies about what they say, that can hurt your relationship. “I have meetings with people … Nigel has meetings with leaders around the world, they’re kept private, that is the way to do things, that is how you conduct yourself.” Mr Jenrick, who now serves as Reform UK’s Treasury spokesman, was speaking at an event in London. Prior to his defection, he lost the race for leadership of the Conservative Party to Mrs Badenoch. He said that Reform …
