Aptera (SEV) now says it needs $25M to start production, stock drops 15%

Source: Aptera Motors Aptera (SEV) now says it needs only about $25 million to start production of its Solar EV, down from the $40 to $45 million it quoted just seven weeks ago. It’s good news on paper. But the market didn’t buy it: Aptera’s stock fell about 15% on the announcement, leaving the solar car startup with a market cap of roughly $69 million. A smaller number, same problem In its Q2 2026 results in August, Aptera said it needed $40 to $45 million to launch low-volume production at its Carlsbad facility, plus another $140 to $160 million to reach high volume. The new plan, published today, is a lot leaner: Advertisement – scroll for more content About $25 million to start production, with the first 40 vehicles built starting by the end of 2026 $40 million more to ramp to 500 vehicles per month, which Aptera calls self-sustaining $50 million more for high-volume tooling, targeting about 20,000 vehicles a year That’s roughly $115 million all-in, compared to $180 to $205 million before. Aptera solar EV makes up to 4.75 kWh a day, independent test shows

Aptera solar EV makes up to 4.75 kWh a day, independent test shows

Aptera’s solar electric vehicle can pull more than 4 kWh of usable energy out of the sun in a single day, and now an independent testing house has put its name on the number. TÜV Rheinland, the 150-year-old German testing and certification firm, ran three days of on-site solar measurements at Aptera’s Carlsbad, California headquarters and confirmed the car generated 4.23 to 4.75 kWh per day, enough for roughly 42 to 47 miles of driving on sunlight alone. Solar-car range claims have a bad track record. They are generally powered by AC fans and not much more. Aptera (Nasdaq: SEV) has been quoting daily solar figures for years that could actually result in useful range thanks to its super-efficient vehicle. TÜV Rheinland showed up with its own calibrated instruments and measured the energy actually reaching the battery, after conversion losses — not the raw output printed on a panel spec sheet. SOLARAMA – big proof from Aptera and big savings for solar + EV drivers

On today’s solar-powered episode of Quick Charge, Aptera’s CEO shares more proof that his company’s solar car concept has legs, joining dozens of Electrek readers who are topping off their car (and home) batteries with the power of the sun! We also talk about why backup power is the least interesting thing you can do with a home backup battery, and celebrate an absolutely massive win for every American as five offshore wind projects the Trump Administration has been pushing back against since day 1 get the go-ahead to continue. Aptera CEO shows his solar car producing more energy than his home solar

Aptera CEO shows his solar car producing more energy than his home solar

Aptera co-CEO Steve Fambro posted a data point this morning that neatly illustrates what his company has been trying to build for more than a decade: his solar electric vehicle was generating more electricity from the sun than his house was. Just after 8 a.m., Fambro said his home rooftop was producing 136 watts of solar power while the Aptera sitting outside was putting more than 300W — more than double. Obviously, this is a particular example highlighting different solar optimization strategies, but neat nonetheless. The tweet The update came on X, where Fambro wrote: “At this very instant, just after 8:00 am, my house is only making 136W of solar power. Aptera? About 300W!!” Advertisement – scroll for more content In fact, Fambro showed that his Aptera was producing 363 watts of solar power: Screenshot It’s a small, off-the-cuff observation, but it matters for a company whose entire pitch rests on the idea that a purpose-built solar EV can harvest enough energy to meaningfully cut how often you plug in. Early morning, with the …

Aptera (SEV) raises .3M through warrant exercise

Aptera (SEV) raises $6.3M through warrant exercise

Solar EV startup Aptera Motors just added some fresh funding to its development journey via warrant exercise. The funding is made possible by a public offering that began in January. It’s been ten days since our favorite (and only) SEV startup announced it had rolled its first solar electric vehicle off its validation assembly line in Southern California. That progress was made possible by a direct listing on the Nasdaq in 2025. In January, Aptera announced it had completed a $9 million equity raise led by institutional investors with the option to receive additional gross proceeds if certain warrants are exercised. At the time, Aptera co-founder and co-CEO Chris Anthony stated that the equity raise was “very intentional.” He added that if all related warrants are converted, Aptera’s total gross proceeds from the raise could reach $18 million. Less than two months later, some of those warrants are already being exercised to keep Aptera’s solar EV validation process funded, but this heightens the risk of diluting its stock. Aptera shares solar EV production update [Video]

Aptera shares solar EV production update [Video]

Days after completing a $9 million equity raise, solar EV startup Aptera Motors posted its latest progress update video, detailing how it intends to use the fresh funds. While it still has a way to go, Aptera is continuing production of its solar EV validation builds with hopes of delivering SEVs to customers before the end of the year. As we’ve pointed out multiple times each year, Aptera’s monthly progress updates are always welcome and refreshing, offering the public and the Aptera community (much of which now has a financial stake in the Solar EV startup) a peek behind the curtain of its facilities in Carlsbad, California. The latest update video focuses heavily on the company’s financial progress, building on news we reported last fall that Aptera had opted for a direct listing on the Nasdaq rather than an IPO or a SPAC merger. This raised, at the very least, a yellow flag of concern for the startup’s future, as it will not benefit financially from said listing. However, Aptera’s co-founders and co-CEOs, Chris Anthony and …
