Bessent Declares All Iran Airlines To Be ‘Shut Down Around The World’ Wednesday

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declared on Monday that by Wednesday Sept. 23, “all the Iranian airlines will be shut down around the world.“ “If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets, or you will be knocked out of the dollar system,” he described. Bessent on Iran: On September 23, all Iranian airlines will be shut down around the world. How do we do that? If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets, or you will be knocked out of the dollar… pic.twitter.com/pX5wfEobV3 — Clash Report (@clashreport) September 21, 2026 The new warning and ‘promise’ was issued after the US earlier this month imposed sanctions on “all remaining Iranian airlines” which had yet to face such penalties – thus Bessent’s new declaration is that these entities are about to collapse under the weight of Washington actions, which now is to include secondary targeting. The Treasury Department has also lately targeted …

Starlink WiFi coming to 500+ American Airlines planes

Starlink WiFi coming to 500+ American Airlines planes

American Air inked a deal with Starlink to equip 500 of the airline’s planes with the satellite internet provider’s WiFi. In an announcement made today, American described Starlink “as the world’s most advanced satellite constellation” and touted its ability to deliver powerful broadband internet via its thousands of satellites flying in low Earth orbit. Starlink will connect to American’s narrow body planes — smaller aircraft that typically fly shorter routes — starting in the early months of 2027. Starlink, part of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, will connect to the planes via its Aero Terminal, which can support up to 1 Gbps of data per antenna. American promises that Starlink WiFi will enable fliers to not just smoothly access their email, but stream entertainment, conduct on-camera work meetings, and play online games. You Are Going to Miss Spirit Airlines

You Are Going to Miss Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines died as it lived: lots of angry customers and no one picking up the phone. Early yesterday morning, when America’s most hated airline announced that it would immediately cease all operations, Spirit left tens of thousands of passengers at airports across America scrambling to figure out what to do next. Some arrived to catch their flight, only to find deserted check-in kiosks plastered with a goodbye message: All Spirit flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. The end of Spirit was sudden and dramatic, but not unexpected. The budget airline has long been going through it: one failed merger after the next, two bankruptcies within the span of a year, and finally, rising fuel costs from the Iran war that turned a bad situation into a dire one. When the hope of a last-minute Trump-administration bailout fell through, Spirit Airlines apparently had no choice but to ground its banana-yellow planes for good. (A company spokesperson declined to comment.) The schadenfreude that Spirit’s many haters are feeling now is free—unlike …

Spirit Airlines collapses after bailout efforts fail

Spirit Airlines collapses after bailout efforts fail

Spirit Airlines has ceased operations after a failed rescue effort collapsed, ending the airline’s 34-year run and leaving thousands of workers and travelers facing immediate disruption at the start of peak summer travel planning. The shutdown of Spirit Airlines follows the collapse of a proposed federal bailout package reportedly worth around $500 million, which had been under discussion as the airline struggled through bankruptcy proceedings and mounting financial pressure. With negotiations failing, the airline moved to wind down operations, cancel all flights, and begin processing refunds for affected passengers. Spirit released a statement on its website to address much of the concerns. It is with great disappointment that on May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately. To our Guests: all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. We are proud of the impact of our ultra-low-cost model on the industry over the last 33 years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to come. The collapse comes after years of financial …

Spirit Airlines says it will cease operations

Spirit Airlines has announced it will cease operations. The ultra-low-cost carrier has struggled for years and filed for bankruptcy twice since 2024. Spirit had sought a bailout from the Trump administration. Mario Tama/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Mario Tama/Getty Images WASHINGTON — Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, which had been struggling for years, announced it will cease operations. Spirit had been seeking a $500 million federal bailout from the White House. But those talks failed to yield a deal, leading the airline no choice but to stop flying “effective immediately”. “It is with great disappointment that on May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately,” the airline said in a statement early Saturday. “[A]ll flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. Spirit Airlines’ possible, and imminent, closure explained

Spirit Airlines’ possible, and imminent, closure explained

Update, May 1, 6:45 p.m.: the New York Times is reporting Spirit Airlines may cease operations at 3 a.m. ET on Saturday, May 2. Low-cost airline carrier Spirit is running on fumes right now, potentially ceasing operations this weekend as rising fuel costs have brought it to the brink of closure. News reports from last month indicated that the federal government might bail out the Florida-based airline for over $500 million and a 90 percent stake in the company. The airline is facing its second bankruptcy in two years, CNBC reports. That deal with the federal government did not materialize, but President Trump told reporters on Friday that, “I guess we’re looking at [bailing Spirit out]. If we can do it, we’ll do it. No institutions been able to do it. I’d like to save the jobs, but we’ll have an announcement sometime today. We gave them a final proposal.” Mashable Trend Report This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. CBS News’ Kris Van Cleave reports that only two …

Do You Need Aluminum Luggage? (2026): Rimowa, Away, Carl Friedrik

Do You Need Aluminum Luggage? (2026): Rimowa, Away, Carl Friedrik

Aluminum won’t crack like a polycarbonate shell. You can stomp on these bags and stand on them. Don’t tell airport security, but my daughter and I have been known to race aluminum carry-on bags through airport terminals, like real-life Mario Kart. When frequent travelers buy luggage, they want this structural integrity and reliability. Rigid shells with metal frames and strong latch closures offer better protection for your belongings and should last a lifetime. Metal rivets, high-quality wheels, robust handles, and better components also mean that all-metal luggage is easier to repair. Well-established brands typically offer generous warranties and repair services, especially on premium cases. Clamshell, zipperless closures are also harder to force open; there’s no zipper fabric that you can sneakily slash through with a pen knife. As with all good-quality luggage brands, the majority now use TSA-approved combination locks, which are not only far more elegant than a clunky old zipper, but add to the confidence these cases afford. The irony of making a more sustainable purchase while also burning through aviation fuel is …
