Only Fools and Horses documentary with unseen footage set to return

Ahead of its debut today (Tuesday 20 October), U&GOLD has renewed documentary series Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive for a two-part second season.

Season 1 is set to reveal never-seen-before footage from over 10 classic episodes, including fan favourites like The Jolly Boys’ Outing and Mother Nature’s Son.

Season 2 will then reveal even further highlights, and over 30 brand new unseen moments from other episodes, including scenes from the later specials, such as Time on Our Hands which originally aired in 1996.

Season 2 will feature interviews with Sir David Jason (Del Boy) Tessa Peake-Jones (Raquel), Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra) and Sue Holderness (Marlene Boyce), who will be seen once again looking back on their time in Peckham, sharing their spontaneous reactions and paying tribute to cast and crew

Other contributors include the show’s long-time director Tony Dow and video editor Chris Wadworth.

Helen Nightingale, UKTV’s head of factual and factual entertainment, commissioning, said in a statement: “With series one focusing on ten or so much-loved episodes, we have barely scratched the surface of unseen footage from this most beloved of comedy shows. Series two promises even more insight into just what it took to create such a fantastic and much-loved series.”

Meanwhile, UKTV’s director of scripted programming, Emma Tibbetts, added: “North One has unearthed a comedic goldmine equal to the one Del and Rodney uncover with the antique watch that finally makes them millionaires in the classic Time on Our Hands. It’s a pleasure to watch these new scenes and see how Sir David Jason and the cast react to their discovery.”

Sean Doherty, director and series producer said: “It really has been the most enormous privilege seeing such precious, newly found John Sullivan gold for the first time – and sharing it with the incredibly talented people who helped make it come to life.”

Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive arrives as the beloved comedy show turns 45, with the documentary celebrating its enduring appeal and the timeless humour that made it a household favourite.

One of the newly unearthed scenes in season 1 include Raquel’s audition, which was filmed for and referenced in the 1991 episode The Class of ’62, but never broadcast.

Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive launches on Tuesday 20 October at 9pm on U&GOLD. It is also available to watch on Sky TV and NOW. You can sign up to NOW from £4.99 a month.

I studied medicine at Trinity College, Oxford, and qualified as a doctor. There are already many excellent blogs exploring faith, humanism, atheism, politics, rationalism, philosophical doubt and everything in between. But I don't intend to limit myself to any particular subject. This is simply a space where I'll share whatever comes to mind, whether it's something I've been thinking about for years or just a passing thought from the day.
