Former Iran President ‘killed in airstrikes’ according to Israeli media reports

A former President was reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – served as President of Iran from 2005 to 2013 – has allegedly died according to Israeli media reports on Sunday, March 1.

Missiles were believed to have hit his home.

Ahmadinejad was known for his hardline rhetoric, the Mirror reports.

He took a confrontational stance toward the West and drew international scrutiny over Iran’s nuclear program.

Ahmadinejad’s presidency was also marked by the disputed 2009 election results, and mass protests that followed across Iran.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was another senior Iranian figure killed in yesterday’s strikes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Khamenei’s Tehran compound had been hit in ‘a powerful, surprise strike’.

A statement from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council was read out on state TV outlets in Iran, which confirmed Khamenei’s death, and announced the country would enter 40 days of mourning.

Taking to Truth Social, US president Donald Trump said: “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead.

“This is not only justice for the people of Iran, but for all great Americans, and those people from many countries throughout the world, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty thugs.

“He was unable to avoid our intelligence and highly sophisticated tracking systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do.”
