Flood alert issued for five London postcodes near River Thames – full list

A flood alert has been issued for five London postcodes as experts say it’s ‘possible’ on Thursday.

The Environment Agency has warned the River Thames is at risk of flooding in west London due to high tides. It believes flooding could occur between 2:45am and 6:45am on Thursday (July 16).

It has listed five postcodes at risk of flooding. They are SW14, SW15, TW1, TW9, and W4.

However, its alert says it does not expect properties to flood.

The alert, posted on Wednesday (July 15), said: “High tides tomorrow morning may lead to flooding.

“Flooding is possible from 2:45am to 6:45am on July 16. The forecast high tide at Richmond is 4.60 mAOD at 4:45am July 16.

“We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

“Flooding of properties is not expected.”

The alert added commuters should avoid flooded areas on Thursday. It continued: “Astronomical tide levels are rising. The river flow at Teddington Weir is 10 cubic metres per second and is steady.

“We anticipate the flows to remain steady for the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.

“Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”

An attached map shows the flood warning zone largely follows the River Thames, starting at Putney Bridge in zone 2, then winding its way out to Teddington.

The zone covers parts of Teddington, Richmond, Isleworth, Brentford, Chiswick, Barnes, Fulham, and Putney near the river.

Some Thames tributaries are also covered, including the River Crane and River Brent.
