Celebrity Traitors stars Miranda Hart and Joanne McNally respond to claims of a ‘feud’ between them

Miranda Hart and Joanne McNally have poured cold water over the suggestion of a “feud” following a tense exchange during an episode of The Celebrity Traitors this week.

During Thursday night’s episode of the hit BBC reality show, Miranda star Hart became convinced that McNally was one of the series’ Traitors as a result of a creaky floorboard during the challenge.

She argued the case at the roundtable confrontation, with the two women clashing over the accusation.

Ultimately, the group opted to vote out Jerry Hall, who was a Faithful, while Hart was “murdered” in the following night’s episode by the actual Traitors, presenter Maya Jama, comedian James Acaster, and content creator King Kenny.

McNally, a comedian, shared a message on her Instagram stories disputing speculation by fans that there remained any ill will between herself and Hart.

Alluding to “the one where I snapped at Miranda at the table”, McNally explained: “Was it my finest moment? No. Did the tension of the roundtable and the general gaslighting get into my head in that moment? Yes it did.

“What can you do? It is a game about gaslighting. It’s a funny game to navigate. Rest assured, me and Miranda have laughed about it since.”

Hart also commented on the post, saying: “It’s so funny to me that people are saying that you snapped. Never felt like that. Was never stressed. And actually we chinked glasses and laughed on the night.”

The current series of Celebrity Traitors – its second, following a hugely successful inaugural series last year – is now approaching its endgame, with just two episodes remaining.

The series got off to a shocking start, with actor Richard E Grant selected as one of the year’s Traitors, alongside Acaster and Jama. Grant stunned viewers – and his fellow contestants – by admitting to being a Traitor in the very first episode.

He was banished by the Faithfuls soon after, and was replaced as a Traitor by the mathematician Professor Hannah Fry, who was also banished in a later episode and replaced by King Kenny.

Still remaining on the show along Acaster, Jama, King Kenny and McNally are musicians James Blunt and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, actors Michael Sheen, Sebastian Croft and Sharon Rooney, and comedian Romesh Ranganathan.

The Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC One at 8pm on Thursday 29 October.

I studied medicine at Trinity College, Oxford, and qualified as a doctor. There are already many excellent blogs exploring faith, humanism, atheism, politics, rationalism, philosophical doubt and everything in between. But I don't intend to limit myself to any particular subject. This is simply a space where I'll share whatever comes to mind, whether it's something I've been thinking about for years or just a passing thought from the day.
