Brabus Just Built An AMG Pickup Truck That Embarrasses The Ram TRX

Once upon a time, AMG was the independent tuner that built insane versions of Mercedes vehicles. Now that AMG is in-house, the go-to for cranking Mercedes vehicles up to insanity is Brabus. In January, the tuning house launched the Brabus 900 Rocket, a 900-horsepower monster based on the W465 series Mercedes-AMG G63. The follow-up was a convertible version of the modified G-Wagen. Now the follow-up to the follow-up is a coachbuilt pickup truck version of the G-Wagen, rocking the same 900-hp engine.

As far as we can tell, the Brabus P 900 Rocket Edition is one of the fastest pickup trucks in the world right now, with enough power to put a Ram 1500 TRX SRT to shame.

If Mercedes-AMG Built A Pickup, It Should Look Like This

The Brabus Rocket is a series of modified vehicles dating back to 2006. The original Brabus Rocket, based on the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (W219) set a world land speed record for a street-legal sedan at 227.2 mph. There have been several flavors of Brabus Rocket over the years, but the new P 900 Rocket Edition may be the most adventurous yet.

To create the P 900 Rocket Edition, Brabus had to go to work on the Mercedes-AMG G63’s ladder chassis, and add an extension module to extend the wheelbase by 19.7 inches. The design language follows the SUV and convertible versions and features an exclusive Brabus Masterpiece interior in extra soft, black leather and Alcántara. However, the highlight is on the outside – a set of 24-inch Brabus Monoblock II EVO “Platinum Edition” wheels.

Hopefully, you’re still not bored by carbon fiber as the P 900 Rocket Edition uses a lot of the material to remind you it’s a performance vehicle. Somewhat unnecessarily so, as the sheer size of the wheels and tires, the boxy flared wheel arches, and the general stance of the truck give it away.

How Does The P 900 Rocket Edition Deliver So Much Power?

Under the hood sits the 4.5-liter Rocket 900 twin-turbo V8 with 900 metric horsepower (888 American hp) and 922 lb-ft of torque at its disposal, and distributed to all four wheels by a nine-speed automatic transmission. According to Brabus, the pickup version of the G-Wagen will punch up from zero to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds while the top speed is limited to 149 mph. The engine is a bored-out version of Mercedes-AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with upgraded internals and bigger turbos.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters

This is a vehicle Mercedes-AMG simply won’t build, but a few people with enough money to spend on something outrageous to drive want. The P 900 Rocket’s truck bed might be made from ‘durable soft-teak’ decking, but the chances of anyone using it as a truck are about as likely as Lamborghini building a sensibly priced economy-based family sedan. This will not be cheap, but it does come with an exclusive Brabus Weekender travel bag, handmade using the same leather and quilting design as the P 900 Rocket Edition’s interior.

This is a poseur’s vehicle through and through, but hopefully it’s not peak Brabus – the automotive industry is always a better and brighter place when the extremes are stretched to absurdity. The bad news? Brabus will only build 10 of these.
