Quarter Up is Skybound’s new internal studio working on Invincible VS

Skybound announced today that it has launched its first internal development studio, Quarter Up. The new studio is working on Invincible VS, a new fighting game set in the franchise of the same name created by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. Skybound revealed the new studio today, shortly after revealing the new title, which is set for launch sometime in 2026. According to Skybound, Quarter Up is a Los Angeles-based team with around 40+ members. The team has collective experience in studios such as Activision Blizzard, Riot Games, Naughty Dog, Netflix, Amazon Games and Double Helix, among others. The name is a reference to putting quarters in arcade machines in order to keep your gameplay going. Several members of the team have previous experience working on fighting games, in particular 2013’s Killer Instinct. Mike Willette, Invincible VS executive producer, told GamesBeat in an interview, “Quarter Up is the first in-house game development studio at Skybound (second major in-house studio) dedicated to creating fighting games. We’re a hyper passionate team with extensive experience in …

Ex-education secretary joins academy boss in heading inquiry run by Public First (but government didn’t commission it) Ex-education secretary joins academy boss in heading inquiry run by Public First (but government didn’t commission it) More from this theme Recent articles Trust chief executive Sir Hamid Patel and Estelle Morris, a former education secretary, will lead a year-long inquiry into the education outcomes of white working-class children. Contrary to reports in national newspapers, the inquiry has not been ordered by Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary, although Sir Kevan Collins, the school standards tsar, will be involved as a board member. The inquiry will be run by consultants Public First and Patel’s Star Academies trust. Funding for the project will come from private philanthropy, raised by Patel. In a statement sent to national newspapers at the weekend, Phillipson said white working-class children had “been betrayed – left behind in society’s rear-view mirror. “They are children whose interests too many politicians have simply discarded. That’s why I have tasked my officials with bearing down on this scandal.” Government …

Russia has been working on creating drones that ‘call home’, go undercover and start fires. Here’s how they work

Russia has been working on creating drones that ‘call home’, go undercover and start fires. Here’s how they work

Russia launched its largest single drone attack of the war against Ukraine’s cities on June 1. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that they faced 472 unmanned one-way attack (OWA) drones overnight. The record may not stand for long. The prior record was on May 26, when Moscow launched some 355 drones. The day before Russia had set a record with 298 Shaheds, which itself surpassed the May 18 tally. Russia’s enormous OWA drone attacks came as a surprise to politicians and the general public, but it’s the culmination of years of work by the Russia military. Initially purchased from Iran, Russia began building factories in 2023 to assemble and then manufacture Shaheds (Iranian-designed unmanned drones) in Russia. Greater control over production gave Russia the opportunity to expand the number of Shaheds quickly. Get your news from actual experts, straight to your inbox. Working for the Lord – OpentheWord.org

Working for the Lord – OpentheWord.org

By Jeffrey S. Powers    Many performers are motivated by a desire for fame.  Yet, fame is often illusory.  I have frequently been asked: “Have you heard of this or that orchestra, conductor or soloist?” and have had to reply, “No, but then they have probably never heard of me either”.  The people who are all the “buzz” in the relatively small circle of classical music are often completely unknown by the general public.  Fame is best considered a possible by-product of doing one’s job “with all your heart, as working for the Lord”. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving”. (Colossians 3:23f, NIV). In these verses the Apostle Paul calls us to do our work, whether playing in the orchestra or working in an office, so that it is an offering pleasing to God.  Performing or working for the right …

Ukraine working on minerals deal as US ceasefire bid grinds on | News

Kyiv working to maintain US support as Trump warned against Russian stalling on ceasefire deal. Ukraine has said it is working with the United States towards a mutually acceptable deal on the country’s mineral resources. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Tuesday that Kyiv and Washington are working on a “mutually acceptable” agreement. The long-mooted deal is viewed as key for Kyiv’s efforts to maintain US support, with Ukraine worrying that Trump appears to be veering towards Moscow’s agenda as he pushes to mandate a ceasefire in the war with Russia, in talks that have sidelined Ukraine and Europe. That push remains a major focus of global geopolitics, with Western states pointing at Russian “stalling” while others stress support for Russia’s defence of its “interests”. Sybiha told a news conference on Tuesday that one round of consultations had already taken place, and that a deal providing for a strong US business presence in Ukraine would contribute to his country’s security infrastructure. “This process will continue and we will work with our American colleagues to reach a …

How to Get Windows Games Working on a Mac

How to Get Windows Games Working on a Mac

There are all kinds of reasons to prefer Macs over Windows-based PCs. Gaming isn’t one of them. That isn’t to say that you can’t game on a Mac—modern Apple Silicon computers are fairly powerful. The problem is that many popular games don’t offer downloads that will run natively on a Mac. Search the Mac App Store or Steam and you’ll find a bunch of games for Mac—just not necessarily the specific ones you want. And there’s another problem: Apple tends to break reverse compatibility faster than Microsoft does. For example, it’s currently impossible to run 32-bit applications on modern versions of macOS. If you have a Steam library full of games that ran just fine on the Mac you had in 2015, you’ll find that a lot of them won’t run at all on the Mac you bought last year. It’s frustrating. Before you give up and buy a gaming laptop, though, know that you’ve got options for getting PC games to run on the Mac. It’s possible to get many Windows games—even recent releases—working …

Government launches ‘Islamophobia’ definition working group

Government launches ‘Islamophobia’ definition working group

The Government has launched a working group to create a definition of “Anti-Muslim Hatred/Islamophobia” within six months. The group was set up by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner in response to record levels of anti-Muslim hate crime. While recognising the commendable aim of combating hatred, the National Secular Society said the term ‘Islamophobia’ should be avoided, and any definition must “ensure free expression is protected”. The working group will create a non-statutory definition, and will be chaired by former attorney general and Conservative MP Dominic Grieve KC. Grieve said: “We know Islamophobia is as challenging to define as its existence is undoubted. “We need to balance addressing the lived experience of those who are victims of it and the right of British Muslims to feel heard and protected as equal citizens of our country, with the unwavering requirement to maintain freedom of thought and expression under law for all.” Grieve previously chaired the Citizens’ UK Commission on Islam and wrote the forward to the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on British Muslims’ report on defining …

The women working behind the scenes in papal Avignon

The women working behind the scenes in papal Avignon

(The Conversation) — In the medieval church, women’s roles were limited – usually some form of enclosure and celibacy, such as becoming an anchoress walled up alone for life, or a nun in a classic convent. On the other extreme were a few dramatic examples of women who made history for the church while flying in the face of gender norms: heroes such as Joan of Arc. The full truth, though, is more complicated. Medieval women were there all along, even in priests’ own houses. In her book “The Manly Priest,” historian Jennifer Thibodeaux reminds us that while celibacy was always the church’s ideal, it was not truly enforced until later in the Middle Ages. At least until the 11th century, some priests had wives and children who were not considered illegitimate. Even after the 14th-century Black Death, clerical households with wives and children thrived in Italy. As the church’s notions of illicit sex and illegitimacy hardened, however, its attitudes toward women did, too. Medieval scholars – all men – defined women’s temperament in negative …

Plaid Cymru Leader Rules Out Working With Reform In Any Way

(Credit: PA Images / Alamy Stock Photo) 4 min read03 February Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth has ruled out working with Reform UK in any way after the 2026 Welsh elections in which Nigel Farage’s party is expected to do well. With the introduction of a pure proportional representation voting system for Senedd elections, and the rise of both Plaid Cymru and Reform in the polls, some in Labour fear the party could be out of power in Cardiff next year. The alternative to a Labour minority or Labour-led coalition could see a combination of Reform, Plaid Cymru and/or the Conservatives teaming up. But ap Iorwerth used an interview with PoliticsHome to rule out the possibility. “We wouldn’t work with Reform,” the Plaid Cymru leader said. “That really is not on the cards.” “We’re talking about sort of a worldview that is that is fundamentally different, and it’s not just on the independence issue,” he added. “When you look at Reform …
