Justin Trudeau Watches Taylor Swift While Riots Erupt in Montreal

Justin Trudeau Watches Taylor Swift While Riots Erupt in Montreal

Riots erupted overnight in parts of Montreal after pro-Palestinian, anti-NATO protesters clashed with police officers, smashed windows of businesses, and even set vehicles ablaze in the downtown area.  Canadian English-language daily newspaper The Gazette, also known as the Montreal Gazette, reported that the protests coincided with the 70th Annual Session of NATO in Montreal, which kicked off on Friday and lasts through Monday. About 300 delegates from NATO member states and partner countries are expected to attend the weekend high-level event.  Here’s more from the local paper about the overnight chaos: An initial group of protesters gathered at Émilie-Gamelin Parc downtown at around 4:30 p.m. before marching toward the Quartier des Spectacles, according to Manuel Couture, a spokesperson for the Montreal police. By 5:30 p.m., another group had converged at Place des Arts, and the two demonstrations merged. The protesters then marched down St-Urbain St. At 6:10 p.m., tensions escalated as demonstrators set an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on fire in the middle of the crowd. As the march continued, objects — including small explosive devices and …

I Outflexed a Roomful of Celebrities with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ,000 Pink-Gold Reverso

I Outflexed a Roomful of Celebrities with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s $66,000 Pink-Gold Reverso

Thriving under the bright lights The Reverso is like a sexy and expensive magic trick. I could have boasted to my coworkers about the new Reverso Tribute’s Calibre 860 movement—visible on one side of the watch with a skeletonized dial, featuring intricate Côtes de Genève finishing—or the sharp design on the reverse side with a laser-engraved horizontal bar. But the Reverso doesn’t require any technical knowledge to induce awe. The watch is a crowd-pleaser at heart: This is the original reversible watch we’re talking about! The small herd of editors marveled as I flipped it back and forth, satisfyingly clicking it back into place. It’s a simple, primitive pleasure, no doubt, but one we shouldn’t take for granted: How many watches give you two faces for the price of one? With super-complicated haute horologie on one side and a more classic-looking dial on the other, my Reverso took full advantage of its duality. I always imagined that if I ever owned a Reverso, I’d spend most of the time with it flipped to the plainer …

Timex Is About to Sell a Watch for Just

Timex Is About to Sell a Watch for Just $1

The limited-edition Waterbury is designed in the style of vintage pocket watches. It’s consists of a 40-mm stainless steel case housing a glossy “ice white” dial with black, 3D lacquered Roman-numeral indices, an outer railroad minute track, and a set of lumed cathedral hands. The watch is powered by a quartz movement and features a handy day-date display at 3 o’clock. The original Yankee pocket watch ads promised “The correct time for little money.” A quartz wristwatch is much better positioned to make good on that promise. The caseback features a special commemorative design to celebrate the anniversary, while the watch is finished with a black leather strap with a steel pin buckle. Sure, the Waterbury isn’t a beautifully finished Patek Philippe, a mind-boggling Moser, or a highly collectible vintage Rolex. But it will be one dollar, which is as good a selling point as any. Timex has long been proof that you can have just as much fun in the watch world for hardly any money at all. Just think about the brand’s sub-$200, …

Geneva Watch Days: 6 Incredible New Releases from 2024’s Most Fun Watch Show

Geneva Watch Days: 6 Incredible New Releases from 2024’s Most Fun Watch Show

Want more insider watch coverage? Get Box + Papers, GQ’s newsletter devoted to the watch world, sent to your inbox every Friday. Sign up here. Watch releases arrive like avalanches, Nerds (the candy), or reindeer—coming at you all at once, in big clusters and packs. If April’s annual Watches & Wonders trade show sets the table for most of the year’s new releases, this week’s Geneva Watch Days is like going back for seconds: May I have some more new watches please, sir? Geneva Watch Days was founded in 2020 after the dissolution of Baselworld, formerly one of the industry’s most prominent trade shows. GWD was founded by brands like Breitling, Bulgari, MB&F H. Moser & Cie, and Girard-Perregaux and has a distinctly more independent flavor than its close equivalents. As you’ll see, this means that the watches provide more spark and sizzle—two qualities this year’s W&W was accused of lacking. Geneva Watch Days opened today with a Nerds Cluster of new releases. Oren Hartov and I rounded up our favorites. —Cam Wolf Bulgari Octo …

The Watch World’s New Indie King

The Watch World’s New Indie King

Rexhepi is handsome with a strong jaw, permanent stubble, and boyishly pointed ears. If Hollywood ever catches watch fever and decides to give Rexhepi a biopic, Tom Hardy would fit the bill. He is meticulous about everything, not just watches—even the workbench he uses is of his own design. His desk is stacked with notebooks filled with drawings of watches and mechanisms. He designed the notebooks too. On the day of our meeting, he is wearing a camel-colored knit polo and matching sport coat. He cares so much about his clothes that he’s talked about designing his own one day. On his wrist is the vintage Rolex Milgauss he’s known for, but he tells me he also has several of the brand’s Daytonas at home. The Chronomètre Contemporain II is Rexhepi’s current masterpiece, considered by many to be one of the finest modern watches in the world. Rexhepi’s office is decorated with objects that pass his smell test: samurai swords and a handmade knife from Emmanuel Esposito that clicks into place so smoothly, like those …

Mark Wahlberg Flexed in Patek Philippe’s Buzziest New Watch

Mark Wahlberg Flexed in Patek Philippe’s Buzziest New Watch

It’s 2:30 in the morning. You’re probably asleep (or doom scrolling) which is a fairly normal thing to be doing at 2:30 in the morning. But not when you’re Mark Wahlberg, because Mark Wahlberg is built different. A stringent follower of a viral daily routine that involves waking up in the middle of the night, praying, cryo chambers, golf, lifting, praying, and being in bed by 7:30PM, Wahlberg has amassed fame, fortune, biceps the size of large organic hams and, somewhere along the way, one of the great celebrity watch collections. If you’ve spent any time browsing through Wahlberg’s Instagram, you’ll notice that plenty of those inspirational witching hour workout videos are accompanied by something just as aspirational on his wrist. Has he become the biggest, strongest, and earliest riser in Hollywood just to show off his watch rotation? Who are we to say… Axelle/Bauer-Griffin The latest in a long list of ultra-rare watch flexes, Wahlberg has recently been spotted walking the red carpet in Patek Philippe’s brand new World Time 5330G-001 (no doubt he’s …

Putin watches Russian military parade featuring a solitary, Soviet-era tank | Russia

Putin watches Russian military parade featuring a solitary, Soviet-era tank | Russia

A solitary, symbolic tank has featured in Russia’s annual 9 May military parade for the second year in a row as the country was forced to pare down its normal display of military might during a full-scale war in which it has suffered unprecedented losses over the last two years. The single tank to roll across Red Square as Vladimir Putin reviewed about 9,000 troops was a second world war-era T-34 carrying the banner that the Soviet Union used when it defeated Nazi Germany alongside other allies. The tank has gained iconic status, but is not in combat use and is instead a token of those that used to be part of the 9 May Victory Day celebrations. Vladimir Putin watches the military parade. Photograph: Dmitry Astakhov/Reuters It is just one way in which the largest land war in Europe since the second world war has affected Russia’s main military and political celebration. Photographs from Red Square also showed patrolmen carrying anti-drone rifles to guard against sabotage attacks that have become a concern due to …

TAG Heuer Kith Formula 1 Watch 2024: Prices, Specs, Availability

TAG Heuer Kith Formula 1 Watch 2024: Prices, Specs, Availability

Concessions to modernity include sapphire crystal instead of plastic for the dial covering on these new models, and high-grade rubber straps instead of the plastic of old. The range includes five versions with stainless steel cases (two of which have black PVD coatings to match their bezels), and five featuring cases in the original Arnite, in fun colorways designed in partnership with New York-based Kith. Ronnie Fieg, Kith’s founder and an influential figure in today’s streetwear and sneaker world, is also a passionate collector of vintage TAG Heuer Formula 1s. The all-plastic versions, plus two steel versions with bright blue and green bezels respectively, are exclusive to Kith—find them in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Toronto, Hawaii, Tokyo and Paris, or on its website. But expect to move fast, because if the MoonSwatch is any precedent, the scalpers will move faster—notwithstanding the fact that at $1,350, the new Formula 1s are five times the price of a MoonSwatch. But they are rare: there are only 250 examples each of the Kith exclusive all-Arnite models, and …

L.A. student dies in fight as safety team member allegedly watches

After school on April 15, a fight broke out a couple of blocks from Washington Preparatory High School. In a cellphone video of the incident, an adult can be heard saying off camera, just before the fight began: “Let them … fight. If they want to fight, let the … police [inaudible]. … I’m not breaking up s—. I don’t give a f—.” The adult who apparently declined to intervene was a member of the “safe passages” program designed to make sure students get to and from school unharmed, according to students and a senior union official. Less than 10 seconds after the fight began, three shots rang out and a student was struck. He collapsed and was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name has not been released. Los Angeles Unified School District officials referred all questions about the incident to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the shooting. The incident in an unincorporated neighborhood near South L.A. is adding fuel to a debate over campus safety in the nation’s second-largest school …
