Victoria Beckham is bringing back bold shoulder pads for 2025

According to the fashion set, 2025 is ripe with trend resurgence, including bodycon tube dresses, knitted balaclavas and leather loafers.  Just when we thought the list couldn’t get any longer this soon into the new year, Victoria Beckham has just added another to the list.  Posting to her Instagram on Sunday night, the former Spice Girl turned fashion designer gave fans a close-up of the dreamy slinky dress she wore to attend a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace back in earlier December.  © @victoriabeckhamVictoria’s dress is from her newest capsule collection The rich blackberry-hue dress in question was the ‘Circle Detail Gown’ from her namesake label and featured a floor-length hemline, long sleeves,  hip ruching detailing and a set of structured statement shoulder pads.  © @victoriabeckhamVB’s gown features a long train and ruched hip detailing It’s been a while since the fashion sphere has been treated to a good pair of shoulder pads – a style which first became popular in the 1930s, inspired by military silhouettes.  They then again rose to fame in the …

Romeo Beckham and girlfriend Kim could be mistaken for David and Victoria inside Miami penthouse

Romeo Beckham couldn’t be more loved-up with his new girlfriend Kim Turnbull, and on Friday, the couple left us doing a double take. Taking to his Instagram Stories, the 22-year-old posed beside his brunette beauty inside his parents’ ultra-luxe Miami penthouse gym. The location is often seen by fans of David and Victoria, who frequently share snaps from their joint workouts on their respective social media accounts. Romeo and Kim were the image of the 22-year-old’s famous parents Romeo and Kim channelled the model’s A-list parents, with Kim bearing an incredibly uncanny resemblance to the former Spice Girl, wearing a chocolate-brown workout set comprised of figure-hugging leggings and a matching sports top. Meanwhile, Romeo looked cool sitting on a mat, wearing a sports jersey and black shorts. The Beckham’s are always sharing snaps of their joint workouts David and Victoria have shared countless photos of themselves from the swanky gym across the Atlantic, with VB often donning skin-tight attire, the main difference being that the husband-and-wife duo often co-ordinate their outfit choices. © InstagramDavid. and …

Victoria Beckham’s bob is back – the short hair transformation we all missed

Victoria Beckham took to Manhattan, New York on Thursday night, rocking a white backless dress as she hosted a star-studded dinner at Coqodaq, celebrating the launch of her third womenswear collection with Mytheresa. © @victoriabeckhamVictoria and David at the event The mother of Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper Beckham looked as chic as ever as she posed up a storm in fabulous pictures, but we were mesmerised by her hair, which looked super short! © Francesca AbrahamovitchVictoria just rocked shorter hair The fashion mogul has been gradually sporting shorter and shorter locks over the past few months. But, as she swished her tousled waves, we realised that she’d had a good few inches snipped off – and her mane is almost the same length as her famous 90s bob she sported in her Spice Girls days. WATCH: Harper Beckham’s A-list hairstylist is her godfather Hairdresser Ken Paves was at the bash, alongside VB’s makeup artist Francesca Abrahamovitch. What Victorian People Sounded Like: Hear Recordings of Florence Nightingale & Queen Victoria Herself

What Victorian People Sounded Like: Hear Recordings of Florence Nightingale & Queen Victoria Herself

More than 120 years after the end of the Victorian era, we might assume that we retain a more or less accurate cultural memory of the Victorians themselves: of their social mores, their aesthetic sensibilities, their ambitions great and small, their many and varied hang-ups. Some of the most vivid representations of these qualities have come down to us through primary sources, which tend to be texts and works of visual art. Late in Queen Victoria’s reign came photographs, and at the very end, even the motion picture. But how can we be sure how her people really sounded? Strictly speaking, the earliest process for mechanically recording the sound of the human voice dates back to 1860, not even halfway through the Victorian era. But the technology still had a long way to go at that time, and it wasn’t until the 1880s that Thomas Edison’s phonograph and the wax cylinders it played became commercially viable. So explains the King and Things video above, on the spread of audio recording and the earliest possibilities it …

Vengeful by Victoria E Schwab The Battle for Control and Survival

Vengeful by Victoria E Schwab The Battle for Control and Survival

The Dance of Light and Shadow In a world where extraordinary abilities come at the cost of death itself, Victoria E Schwab’s Vengeful emerges as a dark symphony of ambition, revenge, and the corrupting nature of power. This brilliant sequel to Vicious proves that sometimes the most compelling stories aren’t about heroes versus villains, but about the shadowy territory where morality blurs and power corrupts absolutely. A Tale of Three Powers Vengeful by Victoria E Schwab picks up five years after the events of Vicious, weaving together three main narrative threads that eventually converge into a spectacular collision. At its heart lies Marcella Riggins, a mob wife who rises from the ashes of her husband’s attempted murder to become Merit City’s most formidable new power. Her ability to decay anything she touches serves as a perfect metaphor for her corrosive ambition. Meanwhile, Victor Vale grapples with the consequences of his resurrection, experiencing increasingly frequent deaths as his power turns against him. His search for a cure becomes a desperate race against time, even as he …

Pitiless, Restless Brecht | Victoria Baena

Pitiless, Restless Brecht | Victoria Baena

In 1924, when he was in his mid-twenties, Bertolt Brecht and his frequent collaborator Elisabeth Hauptmann started work on a play set in Chicago. Neither of them had yet lived in America, but the city, with its slick steel skyscrapers and history of strikes, fascinated Brecht as an emblem of the promises and pitfalls of capitalist modernity. The project that would become Fleischhacker centered on a speculator in the wheat futures market. In preparation, Brecht sought out businessmen and economic writers to explain how the exchange worked. He assumed that he would “acquire the necessary information quickly by making a few enquiries.” But he couldn’t get a straight answer: I won the impression that these processes were simply inexplicable, i.e. not to be grasped by reason, i.e. unreasonable. The way the world’s wheat was distributed was simply incomprehensible. From every point of view except that of a handful of speculators this grain market was one big swamp. Eventually he gave up on the interviews and started reading Marx. Capital gave him ammunition for the idea …

Bullied, belittled but indisputably brilliant: how Victoria Pendleton became a cycling legend; and what’s missing from Twisters? – podcast | Life and style

Victoria Pendleton is one of Britain’s greatest ever athletes, but has often felt like a failure and fraud. She tells Simon Hattenstone about her Olympic golds, the misery that came with them, and the joy she has found since she retired. And Twisters is the tornado blockbuster that almost has it all. But its two hot stars – Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones – avoid a climactic smooch. Is Steven Spielberg to blame? How to listen to podcasts: everything you need to know Source link

Bullied, belittled but indisputably brilliant: how Victoria Pendleton survived everything – and became a cycling legend | Victoria Pendleton

Victoria Pendleton is driving us to the stables in Dorset. We’re off to see her two horses, Vesper and Sarah. She has two bags with her – one containing her cycling gold medals, the other crammed with carrots and apples. She is convinced she’s going to feed the horses the medals. At times, you sense she wouldn’t mind. Ask Pendleton for her greatest achievement in sport, and she’ll tell you about an event that occurred after she retired. She’d only been riding horses for a year when she raced at Cheltenham in 2016, finishing two and a half lengths behind the great Nina Carberry in the Foxhunter Chase. She’s never felt so elated, she says. Does that mean more than the gold medals? “In some ways, because it was totally unexpected. You’re dealing with a live animal so you never know what’s going to happen. All I went in with was my courage – my balls and balance, and nothing else.” Pendleton is driving her little black sports car, dressed in black tracksuit bottoms and …

Victoria Starmer isn’t playing ball with the rightwing press. Good for her | Catherine Bennett

Victoria Starmer isn’t playing ball with the rightwing press. Good for her | Catherine Bennett

It’s probably not coming up on the doorstep, but with limited material and time the opponents of Keir Starmer were bound, eventually, to alight on the question of his wife, Victoria. That she appears to live a happy and productive life, works for the NHS, refuses to exhibit their children, turns up for formal and Labour party occasions, has not said anything silly and has yet, to add to these frustrations, to be convicted of overspending on clothes – are not, in the hands of ingenious analysts, insurmountable deterrents. For just as a politician’s wife can be criticised for getting above herself, she can, it turns out, be goaded for its suspected opposite: reverse-Lady Macbeth syndrome. In fact, you gather from recent objections to Mrs Starmer’s pre-election reserve, it’s worse than unsporting for a politician’s wife not to perform publicly as his helpmeet: it’s kind of weird. In its obduracy, it could even be called Cordelia syndrome. What – assuming a half-decent political wife can always get the time off work – can conceivably explain it? Starmer …

AFP Putin warns of ‘serious consequences’ if Western arms strike Russia President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that there would be “serious consequences” if Western countries allowed Ukraine to use their weapons to strike targets in Russia, as sought by Kyiv. The warning came as French President Emmanuel Macron said Kyiv should be allowed to “neutralise” Russian military bases from where Kremlin troops are firing missiles into Ukraine, and as President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the world not to tire of the war.Putin’s comments came after some NATO members as well as the alliance’s chief Jens Stoltenberg have called to allow Ukraine to use their arms to step up attacks on Russian soil, after more than two years of war.”This constant escalation can lead to serious consequences,” Putin said during a visit to Uzbekistan.”In Europe, especially in small countries, they should be aware of what they are playing with,” he said, noting that many European countries had “small territory” and a “dense population”.”And this factor, which they should keep in mind before they talk about striking deep into …
