New Version Of Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? Announced

Bob Geldof has revealed that a new version of Do They Know It’s Christmas? is being released, to commemorate 40 years of Band Aid. The charity single first debuted in the lead-up to Christmas in 1984, with musical heavyweights like George Michael, Sting, U2 frontman Bono and Simon Le Bon all lending their voices to the original version of Do They Know It’s Christmas?. In the last four decades, the track has been re-recorded on three different occasions, with new contemporary stars putting their vocals on updated versions. Donald Trump Keeps Getting Sued For Using Songs

This article includes material from HuffPost’s weekly culture and entertainment newsletter, The Culture Catchall. Click here to subscribe. This week, a federal judge finally put a stop to Donald Trump’s use of the late Isaac Hayes’ classic song Hold On, I’m Coming at his presidential campaign events. But this isn’t the first time the former president has faced legal trouble over his rallies’ musical selections. Since his 2016 run for the White House, over a dozen fed-up musicians have spoken out about Trump using their music as the soundtrack for his presidential races, with the estate of Hayes being the latest to take legal action after repeated warnings. Before them, Beyoncé issued a cease-and-desist order to the Trump campaign over the unauthorised use of her Freedom anthem, which is already Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ official campaign song. But the list goes on and on. Céline Dion, ABBA, The Rolling Stones, Prince, Adele, Rihanna, the Foo Fighters, The Smiths, Sinéad O’Connor’s estate. From public statements to full-on lawsuits, many artists are drawing a line in …

Cher Is Tipped For Glastonbury 2025 ‘Legends’ Slot – And Fans Have A Lot Of Feelings

While some fans might still be recuperating from this year’s Glastonbury, reports are already flying around about who’ll be performing on the Pyramid Stage in 2025. And folks, this latest rumour is a good ’un. The Sun has reported that music icon Cher has begun “meaningful discussions” with Glastonbury organisers about performing in the coveted Sunday afternoon “Legends” slot last year. Citing an undisclosed “music insider”, the tabloid claimed that the If I Could Turn Back Time singer is eyeing a string of UK shows next year to coincide with her 60th year of making music, and an appearance at Worthy Farm could well be among them. And needless to say, fans are excited at the prospect (and, to be frank, so are we)… I mean, she’s probably the definitive Legends slot act right? Cheesy hits, singalong favourites and probably quite a fun show to boot I’m stunned she’s never done it before — William (@williamchapple1) September 3, 2024 Oh yes please!!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞 Would be awesome! — Kelly ♡ (@jpkelster) September 3, 2024 PLEASE LORD …

Donald Trump Campaign And Foo Fighters In Fresh Row Over Music Use

Donald Trump Campaign And Foo Fighters In Fresh Row Over Music Use

It all started last week, when Trump appeared on stage at one of his political rallies in Arizona to the sounds of the Foo Fighters tune My Hero. The group wasted no time in making it clear that they had not granted the former US president to play their music at his political events, reiterating such on X shortly after the rally. However, seemingly unbeknownst to Dave Grohl and his bandmates, the Trump campaign has now claimed that they did seek the relevant permission. The Independent reported that Trump’s team sought permission using BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) to play the track, which campaign manager Steven Cheung reiterated in an X post aimed at the Foo Fighters, using their own song titles against them. A representative for Foo Fighters told HuffPost UK that the band “were not asked permission” directly, and “would not have granted it” if they had been. It’s perhaps worth pointing out that Cheung made no such retort when reports emerged last week claiming that Beyoncé that slapped Trump with a cease-and-desist over …

Eras Tour Tips: 7 Dos And Don’ts Ahead Of Taylor Swift’s UK Shows

The biggest music event of 2024 is heading back to the UK later this month. After impressing fans with her first run of UK shows earlier in the summer, Taylor Swift is bringing her mammoth Eras Tour to London’s iconic Wembley Stadium next week, with a string of performances that will round off the jaunt’s European leg. After scouring TikTok for clips and devotedly streaming her Disney+ special, plenty of Swifties will have been waiting almost a year to see the Grammy winner live (not to mention the money they’ve spent in the process), so the Eras Tour’s stint at Wembley is going to be a seriously big deal. And if that sounds like a familiar scenario, perhaps you’re keen for tips to maximise the experience. Here’s our full list of Eras Tour dos and don’ts before you head off to Wembley, after we were lucky enough to catch the show when it was here back in June… Do plenty of planning ahead of time The Eras Tour is no ordinary concert experience Even if …

David Beckham Has Something To Say To Anyone Still Waiting For A Full Spice Girls Reunion

David Beckham Has Something To Say To Anyone Still Waiting For A Full Spice Girls Reunion

To say Victoria Beckham has had mixed feelings about her Spice Girls past would be a bit of an understatement. In 2019, the group famously reunited without Victoria to perform a series of stadium shows (which Posh herself never actually went to), and has occasionally been left cringing when her time in the iconic girl band is brought up in interviews. And who could forget the Viva Forever premiere in 2012, where Victoria looked less-than-thrilled to be there in the handful of pictures she actually posed for with her bandmates. However, in more recent years, the singer-turned-fashion-designer appears to have warmed to her Spice Girls days, even performing an impromptu rendition of her hits with all of her bandmates at her 50th birthday party in April. Mel B has long been teasing a mysterious project involving all five members of the band – but if Victoria’s new-found warmth towards her Spice Girls days has got you pondering whether she’ll be performing with them, apparently you should think again. Victoria’s husband David insisted to Variety: “Unfortunately, …

Dolly Parton Reflects On Beyoncé’s Unique Take On Jolene

Dolly Parton Reflects On Beyoncé’s Unique Take On Jolene

Dolly Parton has shared her verdict on Beyoncé’s version of her signature hit Jolene. In the lead-up to Beyoncé’s new country album Cowboy Carter, Dolly had made no secret of the fact she hoped the Formation singer would one day cover Jolene, and heaped praise on the reimagined recording when it was released earlier this year. Speaking to E! News during a recent interview, the country music icon admitted she initially thought Beyoncé’s Jolene would be a “regular” cover, so it came as a surprise when the singer reinvented the song with new lyrics. “I think it was very bold of her,” she explained. “When they said she was going to do Jolene, I expected it to be my regular one – but it wasn’t! But I love what she did to it, and as a songwriter, you love the fact that people do your songs, no matter how they do them.” “But she wasn’t gonna go beg some other woman like I did!” she joked. “I was very proud of her album, I thought …

Adele Fires Back After Audience Member Declares ‘F*** Pride’

UPDATE: It Turns Out Adele May Have Misheard The Fan She Thought Said ‘Pride Sucks’ During Her Show. Adele had some choice words for a member of her audience in Las Vegas who declared “Pride sucks” during her show. On Saturday night, the chart-topping singer was performing her Weekends With Adele live show, on what marked the beginning of Pride month. If you don’t have anything nice to say, shut up, alright?” Adele goes off on audience member who yelled “Pride sucks” at her concert tonight: “Did you come to my f*cking show and just say that Pride sucks? 12 Songs You Probably Didn’t Realise Were Rejected James Bond Themes

What’s a Bond movie without the perfect 007 theme song to go with it? Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish are just some of the stars that have performed unforgettable Bond songs to accompany the iconic movies in recent years. But it came as a shock to fans last week to discover that Lana Del Rey had once written a song that was rejected by the legendary franchise. The Grammy nominee revealed to the BBC that she had written her song 24 – from her album Honeymoon – for a Bond film, which would have been up for consideration around 2015’s Spectre. The film was ultimately soundtracked by Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall, which earned the British star an Oscar win. But Lana’s not alone in writing a Bond theme that ultimately ended up not being chosen. Here are 11 more songs that were rejected by the spy franchise for one reason or another… Johnny Cash – Thunderball (1965) It’s hard to imagine an artist that could bring more of the dark, brooding intensity …

Madonna Faces Another Fan Lawsuit – This Time Due To Her Show’s Sexual Content

Madonna is facing yet another lawsuit over her hit Celebration tour – but this time it isn’t just for her time-keeping. A number of Madonna fans are already taking legal action against the Queen of Pop due to her fast-and-loose approach to stage times, after several shows on her recent world jaunt seeing her taking to the stage hours later than billed. However, this time around it’s the racy content of the show that someone has taken issue with. According to legal papers seen by People magazine, a concert-goer who attended one of Madonna’s shows in California back in February was so unhappy with some of the show’s more sexually-charged moments that they’re suing the Grammy winner and tour promoters Live Nation. The lawsuit accuses Madonna and Live Nation of “purposely and deceptively” misrepresenting the show’s content, claiming fans were “subjected” to “pornography without warning” and “forced to watch topless women” and “sexual acts”.
