Tired all the time? It might be a vitamin deficiency, according to this neuroscientist

Feeling drained and lethargic is common: A 2022 national survey found that 13.5% of U.S. adults said they felt “very tired” or “exhausted” most days or every day over a three-month period. Women ages 18 to 44 had the highest rate of fatigue – just over 20%. Being tired is linked to something deeper than just overwork or a sign of the times. I’m a registered dietitian and nutritional neuroscientist. My research, along with the work of others in the field, shows that your diet and lifestyle choices may contribute to your struggles. These two factors are closely interconnected and could be the key to understanding what’s holding you back. In particular, not getting enough of three essential nutrients – vitamin D, vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids – is linked to low energy levels. Vitamin D More than 40% of adult Americans are deficient in vitamin D. Low levels are linked to fatigue, bone pain, muscle weakness, mood disorders and cognitive decline. Foods high in vitamin D include fatty fish like salmon, sardines, freshwater …

Bowen Yang Is Tired of Fans Tagging Him in Photos of Other Asian People

Bowen Yang is tired of fans tagging him in photos of other Asian people on social media. The Saturday Night Live star opened up about his frustrations with the internet during the “I don’t think so, honey” segment of his and co-host Matt Rogers’ latest Las Culturistas podcast episode. “I don’t think so, honey — TikTok or at least my experience of it, because it’s not even the algorithm anymore… my experience of TikTok is I log on and 20 of my notifications are of someone who thinks they’re being cute, tagging me saying, ‘Oh my god, this person looks just like Bowen Yang.’ It’s an Asian person,” Yang said. “It’s a little Asian baby dancing around in, like, a little elephant costume,” the comedian continued. “Trust me. I’ve seen it. You guys can stop tagging me in that. No, thank you. It makes me not wanna use the platform.” The Wicked actor first caught people’s attention during his guest appearances on the shows Broad City and High Maintenance. He was later hired by SNL as a …

‘I couldn’t care less if I saw another sunrise’ – what older people who are ‘tired of life’ can tell us about the assisted dying debate

‘I couldn’t care less if I saw another sunrise’ – what older people who are ‘tired of life’ can tell us about the assisted dying debate

I can totally relate to tiredness of life. Guess what? I saw a beautiful sunrise yesterday morning, acknowledged it, and couldn’t care less if I saw another one. Nina* is a 72-year-old woman in reasonably good health. She talked to one of us (Sam) recently about her life – and in particular, the sense that she had grown tired of being alive and was ready for the exit. Nina wasn’t feeling suicidal or filled with anxiety and depression, but she was certain that she was ready to die. Living, she said, had become a burden. In Nina’s case, not only did this mean that she felt like a burden to society, but also that life felt a burden to her. You know, other people [family and friends] don’t get it. But I believe this is actually a positive thing, because it means I am less and less attached to Earthly things – to being alive. In our interviews with older people over the past 15 years, some have described the phenomenon of “tiredness of life” …

Your Zoom background could influence how tired you feel after a video call

Your Zoom background could influence how tired you feel after a video call

As remote working remains common for many people, so does sitting in video calls. On many videoconferencing platforms users can set virtual backgrounds. But could this choice have varying effects on how tired people feel after a video call? Researchers investigated and found that video backgrounds leave people feeling more fatigued than any other background option, but scenes of nature help you stay more focused. Part of many people’s pandemic experience included working from home. Even after lockdowns, videoconferencing remains a big part of life as people continue to work remotely, connect with families and friends online, and attend virtual events hosted on videoconferencing platforms. Spending hours on video calls, however, can be exhausting and manifest as physical, emotional, or cognitive tiredness – a phenomenon known as videoconferencing fatigue (VF). Now, researchers in Singapore have asked if a relationship between virtual backgrounds and VF exists and what the underlying mechanisms are. “We show that the use of different types and contents of virtual backgrounds can contribute to VF,” said Heng Zhang, co-author of the study published …

Exhausted Woman Working Nights Begs Neighbor To Keep Her Newborn Quiet

Exhausted Woman Working Nights Begs Neighbor To Keep Her Newborn Quiet

Nobody likes the sound of a baby crying. In fact, research shows it’s almost impossible to ignore the sound, as it triggers a physiological response that makes us immediately alert — whether the crying child in question is yours or your neighbor’s. An exhausted woman working nights begged her neighbor to keep her newborn baby quiet. Ring camera footage captured the woman pleading with her neighbor to stop her baby from crying so much. “I’ve just done a full night shift, and I really just need some peace and quiet to go to sleep,” she said to the mom. The mom was flabbergasted that her neighbor would ask such a question and claimed that she was doing her best to get her baby to settle. “Do you understand that it’s a newborn baby? You can’t just shut them up when you want to,” she said to the woman. Microsoft finds workers are tired and overwhelmed but AI ready to assist

A Microsoft workplace study has uncovered how workers feel about artificial intelligence (AI), with almost two in three workers stating they don’t have enough time or energy to do their jobs. The report compiled findings from 31,000 respondents from 31 countries as well as a deep dive into “trillions of aggregated productivity signals in Microsoft 365, along with labor market trends on LinkedIn”. Microsoft’s 2023 Annual Work Trend Index, the fourth time the tech giant has conducted the poll, contains a lot of useful information on how professionals view their contemporary workplace, with just under half of those surveyed sharing a concern that AI will have an impact on their job security. The report states 75% of workers now use AI in the workplace, with a feeling that the technology is a great tool at times of stress and high-intensity to allow them to concentrate on the imperative tasks. Of those who are already using AI, 78% are said to bring their own AI resources to work. Workers overwhelmed and out of energy The Work …

What To Do If You’re Sick And Tired Of Having Failed Relationships | Andrea Owen

What To Do If You’re Sick And Tired Of Having Failed Relationships | Andrea Owen

I was lying in a heap on my bedroom floor, crying my eyes out. I had just found out my boyfriend had lied to me, cheated on me, conned me out of thousands of dollars, and then dumped me. Right before that, I had been through a horrible divorce in which my husband had also lied and cheated on me. Over and over again, I wondered why I was having this pattern. Why did I end up in these relationships that were essentially the same? I asked my therapist, “Am I just destined for this? Does anyone live happily ever after? Why doesn’t the relationship advice I read tell me what to do?” After I peeled myself off the ground that day, I made an important decision: To take a good, hard look at my life, my patterns, and what I was responsible for. RELATED: How Your Failed Relationship Is Actually A Good Thing Here’s what to do if you’re sick and tired of having failed relationships: 1. Think about how you feel about yourself …

Hungary tired of ruling elite, Viktor Orbán challenger tells large rural rally | Hungary

A rising challenger to the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán, has held what he has called the largest countryside political demonstration in the country’s recent history on the latest stop of his campaign tour that has mobilised thousands across Hungary’s rural heartland. About 10,000 people gathered in Debrecen, Hungary’s second-largest city, in support of Péter Magyar, a political newcomer who has shot to prominence in less than three months by pledging to end official corruption and reverse the declining quality of life in the country. Supporters endured a brief but unexpected rain shower before the afternoon demonstration, turning the city’s central square into a sea of umbrellas. They waved Hungarian flags bearing the names of towns and villages across the country from which they had come. “Today, the vast majority of the Hungarian people are tired of the ruling elite, of the hatred, apathy, propaganda and artificial divides,” Magyar told the crowd. “Hungarians today want cooperation, love, unity and peace.”Magyar, a former insider in Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, has since February denounced the nationalist Orbán …

John Cleese says he’s ‘too tired to be unpleasant’ as Fawlty Towers: The Play prepares to open | Ents & Arts News

Comic actor John Cleese has said he is “too tired to be unpleasant” nowadays – having accepted that those at the top “have no idea” what they are doing. The Monty Python star made the comments as he spoke to Sky News ahead of Fawlty Towers, his hit sitcom, opening as a play in London’s West End. Fans will not get to see the comic legend himself on stage, with Cleese admitting he was happy to hand over the role of his iconic creation – frustrated hotelier Basil Fawlty – to actor Adam Jackson-Smith. Cleese joked how, at 84, summoning up the rage does not come as quickly as it once did. “I used to be able to but as I’ve got older, well it looks like I’ve mellowed, but actually I’m too tired to be unpleasant so people have the impression that I’m getting nicer,” he said. While the first episode aired in September 1975, Fawlty Towers remains arguably the greatest British sitcom ever and has been shown in more than 60 countries, making …

This New Feature Is A Breath Of Fresh Air For Singles Tired Of Boring Bios On Hinge

While the dating world has many pitfalls (how many times can I read ‘roast dinner and a walk on a Sunday’ in a bio, I beg?!), the main concern surrounding it is harassment and unwanted contact. Research has found that online harassment has been on the rise across all digital spaces – particularly for vulnerable groups like women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ users. Now, finally, Hinge has announced that users can hide certain words from appearing in their ‘likes’ as the dating app can: “detour negative interactions before they start, creating a safer and more positive experience on the app.” What the Hidden Words setting on Hinge means for users When users go to the Hidden Words setting, the app states: “We’ll hide likes from people who use any of the words you add here”, giving users complete control in hiding everything from the inoffensive bugbears (hiking, anyone?) to offensive words that they would prefer not to see. Social media users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their excitement. Some users are… a little fussier …
