America’s Gulf allies have raised the possibility of an Iranian military ground invasion of their territories in the event of a major renewed US bombing campaign, which President Trump has threated to restart against Iran after the November midterm elections. It’s an oddly specific, and perhaps unlikely, threat being communicated by Gulf officials, and was reported on in the pages of The Wall Street Journal on Monday. Tehran is only too happy to signal it’s ready to inflict massive counter-pain on US and allied assets across the region. The publication cites “informed sources” who say Islamic Republic officials have been warning that this is among current options being mulled to escalate and spread the war beyond, into the broader region. Fair Isaac, the company that produces FICO scores, saw its shares crash the most in 22 years early Tuesday in cash trading after Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte announced on X that a mortgage-pricing change that Wall Street analysts say could accelerate adoption of rival VantageScore and undermine FICO’s moat.  “We are Simplifying Mortgage Pricing following feedback from lenders and consumers. The alert means hurricane conditions are possible within 24 to 36 hours. By then, the storm will likely be a major hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Nolo isn’t expected to make landfall this weekend, but it has two dangerous qualities: slow movement and heavy rain. The move appears to be transforming the bloc’s economic weight into geopolitical influence, really positioning it as a counterweight to US foreign policy. Hurricane Lowell is expected to create life-threatening conditions even as it is forecast to pass just west of the major Hawaiian islands by Monday night. It could remain a major hurricane — those with 111 mph or greater sustained winds — and is likely to create mudslides, as much as 10 inches of rain in Kauai, and life-threatening waves for parts of the island chain, the National Hurricane Center said. The tropical cyclone reached Category 5, defined by sustained winds of 157 mph or greater, overnight Friday before losing some of its steam and settling into Category 4’s limits of sustained winds of 130-156 mph by Saturday. Lowell appeared to be turning to the west-northwest Saturday, with the hurricane center saying this will likely trigger storm watch notices and other storm-related alerts for Kauai County and the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. A rapidly expanding dammed lake above a Nepal-Tibet flood zone poses a severe new threat to Gyirong Port, where hundreds of people remain unaccounted for following an initial catastrophic surge. Formed by mudslides near the junction of two rivers, the blockage sits about 11 miles upstream of Rasuwagadhi and has created a 27-acre lake, according to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). China’s Ministry of Water Resources estimated on Aug. 27 that the lake currently holds roughly 2 million cubic meters (528 million gallons) of water. Fueled by incoming rain, it is expected to absorb another 3 million cubic meters (793 million gallons) over the next three days.
