Sink Your Teeth Into These 7 Fun Creature Romances

MIRA A man back from the dead meets a woman from somewhere far worse in Clay McLeod Chapman’s new horrormance about love, possession, and just a little murder. After a near-fatal accident, Jordan is finally healing. Sort of. Everything tastes like ash, and the faces around him keep melting. Then he meets Lilith—one wild, passionate night, and she’s gone. He scours the city for her. But when a woman claiming to be Lilith appears wearing a different face yet knowing his every secret, Jordan fears he’s losing his grip on reality. Happily ever afters come at a cost. How much darkness will Jordan embrace for love? Remember when the Beast transformed into the human prince and you were disappointed? What is it about a creature feature that has us so charmed? From the animal bridegroom stories of early folktales to King Kong (1933), literary culture is steeped in monster romance stories. Throughout the history of monster romance, authors have explored the idea of monstrosity. If a so-called “monster” can be kind and gentle, why do humans behave so …

How Often Should I Floss My Teeth?

How Often Should I Floss My Teeth?

Flossing belongs to the same category as stretching after a workout and washing your water bottle: Everyone agrees it’s a good idea. Most of us are just way less consistent than we should be. But what if I told you that the simple act of dragging a bit of string between your teeth has one of the highest ROIs on your entire health routine? (Yes, even more than your cold plunge.) Preventing cavities, keeping your gums healthy, and whitening your teeth is only part of the story. Flossing may also support your heart, your brain, and just about every other part of your body that benefits from keeping chronic inflammation in check. Here’s why experts say flossing is tragically underrated—and how to finally do it right. How often should I floss? The short answer: once a day—ideally at night to clear out the gunk that’s accumulated since breakfast. “Daily flossing is the gold standard because it keeps bacterial levels consistently lower and gives the gums an opportunity to heal,” says Arthur Glosman, DDS, a cosmetic …

Kesha reveals she ‘collects fans’ teeth and turns them into necklaces

Some people collect stamps. Others collect coins. But Kesha has a slightly rarer hobby, as the pop star opened up in a new interview about collecting teeth. The “TiK ToK” singer, 39, explained her strange interest on an episode of podcast Las Culturistas hosted by comedian Matt Rogers and Saturday Night Live alum Bowen Yang that was released on Wednesday (15 July). “Do you know that I collect teeth?” she told the pair unprompted, with Rogers replying: “You do? What sort of teeth?” asked Rogers. “I do. Send them over!” she replied. The singer – who last weekend appeared on stage with Pitbull wearing a bald cap – explained: “Well, the teeth started when I became obsessed with my fans. And then someone was like, ‘My child lost their teeth’ and I was like, ‘Can I have them?’ because I want to make jewellery out of it. Kesha said that she turned her fan’s teeth into ‘a necklace and an earring and then a belt and then a crown’ (Getty) “And so then I made a necklace …

Several fossilized bones discovered in Wyoming over several digs between 1997 and 2017 feature tooth marks that were likely the result of a big bite by a T. rex. The fossils are detailed in a study published today in the journal PLOS One, and are helping paleontologists piece together an extinct ecosystem.  “The study of tooth marks on fossil bones is important because it provides valuable insights into animal behavior and interactions between species,” the study’s authors wrote in a joint statement. In the study, authors Bethania C. T. Siviero, Elizabeth Rega, Matthew A. McLain, Leonard R. Brand, David Nelsen, and Art V. Chadwick examined over 3,000 bones …

Why do we even have baby teeth?

Why do we even have baby teeth?

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent six days a week. The emergence of baby teeth might be among new parents’ worst and best times. The days and weeks of fussy, sleepless nights as little ones struggle with teething pain are the downside. The adorable little white buds that appear for the first time in a baby’s grin, of course, are the reward.   But there’s far more utility to baby teeth—sometimes called primary teeth, deciduous teeth, or milk teeth—than just making babies even cuter than they already are. They play an important role in a child’s development. What’s more, emerging research also suggests baby teeth might even tell us something about a baby’s time in utero and, potentially, their future health. Popular Science spoke with Dr. Priyanka Rao, a pediatrician with UNC Health and associate professor of pediatrics at UNC School of Medicine, about why baby teeth matter, what science tells us about them, and how parents can help keep these temporary teeth healthy. How do baby teeth develop?  Baby …

Teeth, finger bones and blessings: Buddhist relics inspire belief

Teeth, finger bones and blessings: Buddhist relics inspire belief

ROSEMEAD, Calif. (AP) — Katherine Nguyen stood with hands folded and head bowed at the altar of a Buddhist temple in Southern California. Before her were tooth and finger bone relics believed to belong to Shakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism who is said to have attained enlightenment in India about 2,500 years ago. “To be able to see the Buddha, to get close to him and feel the energy — it’s very special for a Buddhist,” Nguyen said. Every Lunar New Year, the Wei Mountain Temple in Rosemead, California, publicly displays what it calls the “10,000 Buddha Relics,” though the actual number contained in several glass display cases and miniature stupas or reliquaries is far larger, according to the temple’s founder, Master YongHua. The collection prominently features bones and teeth believed to have come from the bodies of the Buddha, his relatives and disciples. It also includes numerous shariras — colorful pearl- or crystal-like objects said to have been culled from the cremated ashes of Buddhist masters and the Buddha. Relics in Catholicism and …

How to Whiten Your Teeth, According to a Dentist (2026)

There are plenty of reasons why you’re searching “how to whiten your teeth.” Perhaps you noticed your pearly whites are looking a little less pearly these days, or that your two-cups-of-coffee-a-day routine is leaving your chompers a little…latté-colored. Maybe your fit pics are going hard but you’re smizing in every one. Whatever brought you here, we know what you’re thinking: How can I whiten my teeth at home—and do those drugstore strips actually work? To get to the bottom of all things teeth whitening, we turned to Dr. Joyce Kahng, an award-winning cosmetic dentist who shares dental tips and combats misinformation on Instagram and TikTok to over half a million followers and counting. If you’re feeling confused by what works and what doesn’t, that’s probably because of how overcrowded the oral care aisle is with confusing labels. “There are so many products that are marketed to be ‘teeth whitening’ and most of them are probably actually not,” says Dr. Kahng. That whitening mouthwash and “crystal-diamond-quadruple-white” toothpaste you’ve been banking on? Those are mainly cleaning up …
