Ted Lasso original star ‘devastated’ after being killed off in season 4

Ted Lasso original star ‘devastated’ after being killed off in season 4

Ted Lasso has killed off a fan favourite character who’s been on the show since the very first season The ninth episode of the Apple TV show’s fourth season unexpectedly waved goodbye to an original star in what the actor has described as “the very best way”. *Spoilers follow – you have been warned* Pub landlady Mae Green, played by Annette Badland, died after travelling from Richmond to the Lady Greyhounds away match against Bristol City. After expressing concern about making the lengthy trip, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) invited her to join the team on the team bus. At the match, she gives up her seat alongside Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) in the box so she can watch from the crowd, but the excitement becomes too much. Viewers learn that Mae has collapsed when Rebecca (Hannah Waaddingham) is told, and she walks into the locker room to discover from Ted that Mae has died. Badland told TV Insider that she was “devastated” to learn the news when Sudeikis told her, and immediately asked: “Can she come back …

The “Ted Lasso” problem Ted Lasso can’t see

The “Ted Lasso” problem Ted Lasso can’t see

Nothing beats a cheerful holiday episode in the summertime, am I right? “Ted Lasso” stans know exactly what I mean. As you read this, you may still be riding the festive-season sugar rush of “Don’t Jump Around Much Anymore,” possibly the best installment of a fourth season that’s taken its sweet time to tighten up its plays. You may recall that this show pulled this stunt before. This time the action takes place on New Year’s Eve, but let’s tally the gift bounty anyway. The Lady Greyhounds, AFC Richmond’s recently minted women’s football team for which the irrepressibly upbeat Ted (Jason Sudeikis) emerged from retirement to coach, are starting to improve. Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) is recovering from his post-breakup funk. Greyhounds owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) still has the love of her flying Dutchman Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn). Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) makes a cameo to shill his vanity vodka brand and reconnect with Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) over a shared love of House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” which makes Roy forget he …

Susan Boyle Had The Best Reaction To All Those Shout-Outs In Ted Lasso

Susan Boyle on Loose Women in 2020 Between a name-check from Timothée Chalamet and not one but two excellent ad campaigns, Susan Boyle is truly the woman of the hour once again. But what we weren’t expecting was that this recent Su-naissance would extend to the Ted Lasso universe. Since it premiered at the beginning of this month, the former Britain’s Got Talent star has been the name on everyone’s lips in Ted Lasso’s fourth season. View this post on Instagram Over the weekend, Susan shared a video of herself watching the latest of Ted Lasso on Instagram, showing Jason Sudeiki’s character admitting he’d finally got round to watching “this Susan Boyle audition”. “She’s the most talented woman on earth,” he declared, prompting a response from the woman herself. “Cheers Ted!” Susan enthused, before taking a sip from a dedicated “Ted” mug to reveal the feeling was very much mutual. View this post on Instagram Back in May, Susan left social media users “gagged” when she was spotted out and about in London, for what …

‘The Voodoo Thing’ | Ted Reichman

‘The Voodoo Thing’ | Ted Reichman

One afternoon around 1990, as a teenager working my after-school job in an optometrist’s basement office, I was listening to a local college radio station when the DJ, needing a break, decided to play the entire B-side of a record. I had never heard anything like it. Sludgy grooves, wails of unidentifiable wind instruments, and the clatter of an incongruous mandolin and harpsichord drifted in a steamy cloud of artificial reverb. In the middle of it a young man, supported by several backing vocalists, murmured incomprehensibly: “Je suis le Grand Zombie, my yellow belt of choison/Ain’t afraid of no tomcat, fill my brains with poison.” I was intrigued when the DJ said that the music was by Dr. John, from his 1968 debut album Gris-Gris. I recognized the name from a track on Atlantic Blues: Piano, a double-LP compilation I had bought as part of my efforts to learn to play in that style. But the music I heard on the radio was nothing like those songs. It was pianoless, nearly formless, not the blues …

What the Ted Lasso Way doesn’t get about women in sports

What the Ted Lasso Way doesn’t get about women in sports

Six years ago, “Ted Lasso” reminded us that many winning TV shows are the result of the right sentiment landing at the right time — or, in this case, a terrible time. In 2020, the weight of pandemic lockdowns and an especially rancorous presidential election made life feel mean. Enter Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis’ folksy Missourian loaded with cornpone wisdom, positivity and kindness. Against all good sense, Ted, an American football coach, moves to England to coach the AFC Richmond Greyhounds, a men’s soccer team, despite knowing nothing about the sport. That suited Greyhounds owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) since she intended Ted, his assistant coach, Willis Beard (Brendan Hunt), and her team’s players to fail. Instead, Ted’s emphasis on personal growth and camaraderie rebuilds the Greyhounds from their league’s demoralized joke into its comeback kings, powered by their yearning to Believe. In 2020, “Ted Lasso” made us feel like that motto, “Believe,” was all we needed.  In 2026, introducing a women’s football team changes that pitch. The fourth season sees Ted, Rebecca, AFC Richmond’s …

Kristen Bell and Ted Danson Still Forking Love Each Other

Kristen Bell and Ted Danson Still Forking Love Each Other

The Good Place had such a fun alternative vocabulary. Are there any Good Place-isms that still sneak into your head? Bell: There were so many alternative phrases that The Good Place invented that stuck—not just for us, but for everyone. People still come up to me and say— Danson: “What the fork?” Bell: And “mother forking shirt balls.” Danson: I love that most people that come up to me are 12-, 13-, 14-, 15-year-old boys and girls who have just discovered it. Every generation comes up, and they really do watch it because it’s funny. It’s about something. It’s silly. It has fart humor. It’s a lesson in ethics. No one talks to me about anything else more than they do about The Good Place. Bell: I’m very proud to be part of it. Out of the blue, I got this voicemail that says, “Hey Kristen, it’s Mike Schur. I have this project I’m thinking of, and I don’t know why, but I feel like it’s for you. Can you call me back?” And I …

Ted Danson apologizing for blackface roast of Whoopi Goldberg

Ted Danson apologizing for blackface roast of Whoopi Goldberg

Ted Danson is apologizing for roasting onetime paramour Whoopi Goldberg while wearing blackface. It was the fall of 1993 at the Friars Club in Manhattan, and the occasion was a roast of the “Sister Act” star, who at the time called Danson her “best friend.” Danson, fresh off the heels of an 11-season run on “Cheers,” and Goldberg, who was at the height of her film career, had been tangled up in a not-so-secret love affair that sprang up while filming “Made in America.” Danson was freshly split from his second wife, producer Cassandra Coates, who served him divorce papers after the tabloids outed his fling with Goldberg earlier that year. To make matters messier, Danson and Goldberg’s romance was cooling off and the two actually tried to get out of the Friars roast, but the club said the tickets had been sold and the show must go on. According to The Times’ archives, Goldberg said she wrote the racial-slur-laden monologue that Danson delivered wearing black minstrel makeup with exaggerated lips in white. On the …

Ted Danson says he will apologize for infamous blackface performance at Whoopi Goldberg roast ‘for the rest of my life’

Ted Danson says he will apologize for infamous blackface performance at Whoopi Goldberg roast ‘for the rest of my life’

Ted Danson is ready to spend the rest of his life apologizing for his infamously offensive roast of his then-girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg more than three decades ago. In 1993, the Cheers actor wore blackface at a celebrity roast of Goldberg at the New York Friars Club, where he served as the toastmaster and delivered a routine that included multiple uses of the n-word and disturbingly raunchy jokes. Danson, 78, addressed the “stupid” and “hurtful” act during a recent appearance on W. Kamau Bell’s Who’s With Me? podcast, where he said he was sorry for the incident and said that he was willing to keep apologizing for it. “I need to and I want to apologize for the rest of my life,” he said during Wednesday’s podcast episode. “Because somebody today can go on the internet and go, ‘What the f***? Yeah. Wow, I feel betrayed, I feel angry,’ and whatever. And I did that.” Although Danson was legally married to Casey Coates at the time of the roast, he had been in a public romantic …
