Shipwreck found in Lake Constance: what surprised the underwater archaeologists

Off Lindau in Lake Constance, underwater archaeologists have discovered wooden parts of a shipwreck that are apparently much older than first assumed. “The tip came from a recreational diver who knows the area very well. He had already suspected that it might be a wreck,” says archaeological research diver Prof. Dr Tobias Pflederer when asked by Euronews. Pflederer is a cardiologist in Kaufbeuren and a professor at the University of Erlangen, and also honorary president of the Bavarian Society for Underwater Archaeology (BGfU). “What was particularly exciting was that we were really able to identify the wooden remains as a wreck. That was not at all clear from the outset. They could just as well have been other pieces of timber. But once several frames and fragments of the hull were protruding from the lake bed, the interpretation quickly became clear,” explains Pflederer. A frame is a load-bearing structural element of a boat, a ship or an aircraft. Connected frames form the hull of a ship, like ribs. The BGfU underwater archaeologists had previously discovered …

I paired my old Ryzen 5600G to my new RX 9070 and it surprised me in the best way

Going back to my previous budget AM4 build, my CPU of choice was a rather strange one, an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G. This choice was born out of compulsion, since I didn’t have any other alternatives at hand on such short notice. To make matters even more complicated, I had this connected to an AMD RX 9070 GPU over Oculink, which sounded like a recipe for disaster. I ended up eating my words soon enough, when the setup played through my Steam library just fine, even managing to surpass my expectations in some cases, but ultimately pointing out that I desperately needed an upgrade. Related Your next CPU doesn’t need to be new — these older chips are a smarter buy You don’t need to drain your bank account to grab a quality chip. Coupling an RX 9070 with a Ryzen 5600G CPU Performance expectations and some hard limits To say that the Ryzen 5600G is a poor choice for the RX 9070, is an understatement. The CPU is woefully underpowered by modern standards, and …

I had a non-surgical facelift – the results really surprised me

I just didn’t fancy undergoing a $100,000 facelift like Kris Jenner, 70, who reportedly had the “deep plane” last year – the A-list surgical facelift du jour. It knocked the years off so efficiently that she was mistaken for her daughter Kim Kardashian – and is now reportedly “raging” because it’s already “fading”. Nor did I want one of those “mini facelifts” that are popular among celebrities in their twenties and thirties who want a “snatched” look, offering lower-scarring results compared to traditional lifts, with celebrities like Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and Kylie Jenner fuelling speculation they’ve had one. But I knew I wanted to do something. I’d been feeling a bit tired-looking as I approached my late forties, and although I would not go as far as to say I had a full-on “Ozempic face”, I had a slight drawn look after losing nearly 3st on weight-loss drugs last summer and returning to my pre-pregnancy weight. And that’s why facelifts are booming – with GPL-1 users complaining of a gaunt, sagging or aged facial …

Ricky Gervais reveals The Office casting that surprised him

Ricky Gervais has opened up about casting Mackenzie Crook in The Office, revealing he didn’t look anything like how he originally envisioned the character of Gareth. Acclaimed sitcom The Office aired on the BBC from 2001 to 2003, and spawned international spin-offs, including the long-running American version. In the U.S. version, Steve Carell took the role of the boss that Gervais had originally played, while the character of Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson) was created as an Americanized version of Gareth. During an appearance on actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett’s podcast Smartless, Gervais said that he originally had a very different type of actor in mind to play Gareth after basing the character on a school friend. “Gareth was based on a kid I went to school with when I was 14 or 15,” said Gervais. “He was in the territorial army, and he spoke like [Gareth]. This is a true quote of this guy, I won’t say his name. He said: ‘When you’re captured by cannibals, and you’re in the …
