Like fish and chips and a full English, the Sunday roast is one of Britain’s great gifts to global gastronomy. Less a meal and more of a state of mind, in fact, and so essential to our sense of collective identity that the French call us ‘les rosbifs’. Can you imagine any other country wearing a food stuff as a badge of honour? (Rule — or should we say roast? — Britannia!) Another UK icon, the local pub, is the natural home of the Sunday roast, though anyone who has sat through a roast gone wrong will be familiar with a blow to national pride as crushing as England losing on penalties. So read on for London’s roasts with the most — places that offer crispy-outside-fluffy-inside potatoes, puffy great Yorkshires, cracking crackling and the finest veg. The political tension around the ever-growing pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses will likely be the focus of this week’s Sunday news shows. Two notable instances of violence breaking out at campuses amid the protests occurred Tuesday at Columbia University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), when both the New York Police Department (NYPD) and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) cracked down on pro-Palestinian protesters at the two schools. New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D), who had previously claimed that “outside agitators” were involved in protests at Columbia, will appear on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. He was pressed on those claims by CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins Wednesday, to which he responded that there was “clear evidence of training that was conducted by an outside agitator, that was not a student, did not belong on the campus.” Collins also asked Adams if there would be a “breakdown” from Adams’s office or the NYPD on how many of the people arrested Tuesday were actually Columbia students. “Here’s what we can do, we’re allowed to …
October 7th survivors to visit churches across America Eagles’ Wings, a pro-Israel organization, is partnering with the Jewish community and Moral Hearts Alliance on a historic project, bringing surviving victims of the October 7th terrorist attack against Israel to America. In churches across the nation, they will tell their stories to live audiences on “Solidarity Sunday,” set for May 5th, which is the beginning of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day). “We view this Solidarity Sunday as a sacred responsibility,” Bishop Robert Stearns of Eagles’ Wings explained. “Isaiah 63:9 says, ‘In all their affliction, God was afflicted.’ God identifies with the suffering of the Jewish people, and as the Christian community, we must feel their suffering, too.” A Moral Hearts Alliance spokesperson added, “We are proud to partner with Eagles’ Wings on Solidarity Sunday to shine a light on the atrocities committed on October 7th and to build deep and lasting alliances across religions based on our shared values.
