3-D printing: A means of producing physical items — including toys, foods and even body parts — using a machine that takes instructions from a computer program. Chris McCausland is a heroic Strictly winner in a series struck by one controversy after another

And on Saturday night, he did it. Chris McCausland, and his pro partner Dianne Buswell, took home the Glitterball trophy. The comedian’s victory is a moment that transcends the show itself and one that has given this controversial series of the BBC show a phenomenal, wholesome ending. McCausland’s triumph, as a man who lost his sight at the age of 22, is a milestone that should certainly be celebrated (and I have no doubt the Strictly Class of 2024 will make sure the bubbly is flowing well into the early hours). But behind the scenes, I bet there’ll be some sighs of relief that this series is over. This season was marred in scandal before the fake tan had even been unpacked, when two professionals left amid abuse allegations in the spring. Giovanni Pernice stepped …

Strictly Come Dancing LIVE: Chris McCausland’s score sparks ‘undermarking’ accusations in Musicals Week

Chris McCausland and Strictly partner share emotional moment after ‘joyous’ dance performance Sign up to our free IndyArts newsletter for all the latest entertainment news and reviews Sign up to our free IndyArts newsletter Sign up to our free IndyArts newsletter The Strictly Come Dancing final is just two weeks away and the remaining six pairs gave Musicals Week their all with the hopes of making it to next Saturday’s semifinal. JB Gill and Lauren Oakley topped the leaderboard for the second week running thanks to their Viennese Waltz to “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins. Second place was tied with both Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec, and Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola landing 38 points for their routines. But it was another of the remaning couples who had fans talking on social media. Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell danced a phenomenal Quickstep to “You’re The Top” from Anything Goes, but their score of 32 (putting them first from bottom on the leaderboard) left many fans claiming the duo had been undermarked. The episode featured a number of impressive routines with Sarah Hadland performing a powerful Couple’s Choice and Tasha Ghouri taking on the Paso Doble. Both dances received totals of 39 from the judges and the two stars are sharing the top spot on the leaderboard. While he didn’t score too well, Pete Wicks certainly delivered a dose of entertainment with his “I’m Too Sexy” Cha Cha. Another star who struggled was Wynne …

Dowden has been forced to leave the series, after making a much-awaited return following treatment for breast cancer. The 34-year-old professional ballroom dancer was rushed to hospital as a “precaution” on 26 October for an undisclosed illness, which meant she did not perform in the following show, with pro dancer Lauren Oakley stepping in to dance with Dowden’s celebrity partner JB Gill instead. Dowden clarified that her “insufficiency stress fracture” had “nothing to do with any previous health scares”. “Before we get started our lovely Amy Dowden has had to withdraw from this year’s competition, due to injury so Lauren will be stepping in and dancing with JB for the rest of his time on the show,” began …

What Strictly Come Dancing can teach us about how (and how not) to give feedback

What Strictly Come Dancing can teach us about how (and how not) to give feedback

Feedback is a big part of the Strictly Come Dancing experience. Every week, after performing their dance, each professional-celebrity couple waits breathlessly to hear what the four judges made of their routine. Will it be “fab-u-lous” or a “disaster”? As a feedback researcher and an avid Strictly fan, I listen closely too. Feedback is really important if a learner is to progress, and sometimes the Strictly judges give the dancers useful tips they can use to improve. But – more often – they don’t. We can use specific criteria to work out whether feedback will be effective or not. This applies both to Strictly and to other contexts, such as the education system. Feedback should clarify what good performance is. This means that learners need to be clear about their goals if they are to close the learning gap – the distance between where they are and where they want to be. Feedback on Strictly Come Dancing in season 22. On Strictly, the judges’ comments often lack any real clarity and are rather generalised. They …

Amy Dowden ‘heartbroken’ as she leaves this year’s Strictly Come Dancing | Ents & Arts News

Amy Dowden will not take part in the rest of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. The professional dancer made a return to the celebrity contest this series after undergoing treatment for breast cancer and had been partnered with JLS star JB Gill. However, the 34-year-old has now had to pull out of the competition due to a foot injury. In a statement on Instagram, she said: “I’m so sad, so upset and asking why me, why now that our journey has been cut short. “My heart right now is breaking having to pull out of the competition due to a foot injury.” Dowden added: “I know only too well ‘this too shall pass’ and I’ll be soon better and back dancing. Something I’ve had to get used to in my life. I’m sure at some point we will dance again JB. “To all the fans, to my loved ones, my strictly family thank you.” Image: JB Gill and Amy Dowden. Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden rushed to hospital after show | Ents & Arts News

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden was rushed to hospital after last night’s main show – but has said she is feeling “much better”. The dancer, who also has Crohn’s disease, had returned to the show in August after receiving cancer treatment. A spokesperson for Dowden said: “Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution. She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. “We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected.” A Strictly spokesperson added: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Amy Dowden MBE was unable to be in tonight’s results show.” Dowden, who has not partnered a celebrity on the entertainment show since 2022, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year. Ahead of her return, she described her joy at being told by her doctor there was no evidence of disease. Saturday night’s episode saw a number of this year’s contestants impress on the dancefloor with three of them winning 10s for their routines. They included EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick — who is beginning to look like a serious contender for the Glitterball trophy — and Sarah Hadland, who spectacularly recovered from an early mishap to deliver a dramatic performance. The third was Tasha Ghouri, who has consistently pulled off high-scoring routines. But it’s a celebrity closer to the bottom of the leaderboard who has the most to celebrate. Prior to Saturday night’s show, Sam Quek had been struggling to make her mark on the competition and last week, she was left …

BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Vito Coppola declares love in training

BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Vito Coppola declares love in training

Vito Coppola took a break from his Strictly Come Dancing training to declare his love – but not for his celebrity dance partner Sarah Hadland. The pair had an emotional weekend in the ballroom as Sarah performed to a song close to her heart. The Miranda star and her Italian dance partner danced a Foxtrot to Birds Of A Feather by Billie Eilish, but ahead of their performance, Sarah broke into tears as she spoke about the importance of the song to her and her ‘little one’. Despite not getting their best scores and comments of the series, the pair made it through to week five of the BBC One dance contest and have since been back in training for their upcoming Samba to Do It Do It Again by Rafaella Carrà.
