The only surviving victim of “Suffolk Strangler” Steve Wright has told how if police had taken her story seriously, the other women he went on to murder may still be alive today. The serial killer attempted to kidnap Emily Doherty in the Suffolk town of Felixstowe in 1999. Wright went on to murder five women in the Ipswich area in 2006 and on Monday pleaded guilty to murdering 17-year-old Victoria Hall, also in 1999, as well as trying to abduct Emily. In her first ever interview with the media, Emily told Sky News how, while she was on a night out, she had to flee from him repeatedly until someone came to her aid. But when police were called, they treated her like “a silly little girl”, and failed to follow it up with a full investigation even after Victoria Hall’s body was later found. “It’s devastating what happened to everyone else, absolutely devastating,” Emily said. “You can’t help thinking, if they had taken me seriously, Vicky could have survived, but certainly if they had …

See Steve Carell in HBO’s ‘Rooster’ Trailer

The logline for HBO’s upcoming series Rooster, starring Steve Carell, doesn’t offer much in the way of detail: The show is “a comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive),” per the official description. A newly released trailer for the show, however, fills in some gaps — including why the series is called Rooster. Carell plays a best-selling author who comes to the college where his daughter teaches because she’s going through a crisis after her husband (Ted Lasso’s Phil Dunster) “left me for a grad student,” as she puts it. The head of the college (John C. McGinley) convinces him to stay in some capacity, and he starts to form a bond with some students. As for the “Rooster” part, it’s apparently the name of the lead character in his books, and students take to calling Carell’s character by the name as well. Watch the trailer below. It’s become something of a tradition that every January brings with it a brand new Jason Statham action vehicle – and the latest entry in that ever-expanding canon arrives in UK cinemas this weekend. Shelter follows a fairly similar pattern to a lot of previous Statham flicks; he stars as a reclusive man with a mysterious, violent history who is called back into action when some shady figures from his past show up, teeing up all manner of stunts, car chases and brutal brawls. This time around his character is one-time assassin Mason, who we find living in exile at a lighthouse somewhere in the Outer Hebrides. But when a storm causes a dramatic boat accident that kills his fellow islander and former army pal, he finds himself caring for the friend’s young daughter.
