Bare Feet, Hands-Free Handbags, and Plenty of Tights: Here Are the Spring 2027 Accessories Trends

Bare Feet, Hands-Free Handbags, and Plenty of Tights: Here Are the Spring 2027 Accessories Trends

When it comes to spring 2027 accessories, there’s a bit of awkwardness in the air. Shoes are either shrinking to the point of bare-footedness or stacked to the gills with frills; belts are being piled on to an almost uncomfortable degree, and tights—an accessory usually saved for the fall season—are everywhere. Designers are no longer proposing we save our craziest pieces for our most special occasions, and as a result, in this upside-down world of fashion, eccentricities are reigning supreme. In need of a metallic fringed egg carrier? Kallmeyer has you covered. A belt bag with pockets galore the size of the mini skirt it’s layered over? Check out Sandy Liang. Elsewhere, designers from Dries Van Noten to Chanel’s Matthieu Blazy dialed up the heat on clashing and contrasting heaps of kooky extras. Barely-There Shoes (Or None at All) Are feet the most lasting accessory of our time? Almost every designer seems to think so. At Calvin Klein, crocheted sandals got as close to the concrete as physically possible, while JW Anderson, Chopova Lowena, and …

Spring bulbs: should you leave planting until later?

Spring bulbs: should you leave planting until later?

So, it’s almost time to plant your spring bulbs – or is it? With ground still rock hard from the sweltering summer, it may be wise to at least delay planting spring bulbs until rain has softened the earth, experts advise. “It’s better to wait for the soil to cool a bit more before planting but on the flip side, it’s still good to get into garden centres and choose the varieties you want early while there’s the best selection,” says Ian Clark, Taylors Bulbs marketing manager. “But it’s definitely better to wait for some rain to make planting easier.” (Alamy/PA) “Bulbs are at their most dormant at the moment and the most important time for them is late spring/early summer after flowering when they are taking in moisture and nutrients for the following year,” he continues. “Hot weather earlier in the summer had a small effect on tulip growth but not too serious, more likely that the bulbs haven’t got quite as big as they might have done had they had more favourable growing …

Sabrina Ghayour’s recipes for mango and chilli chicken, sticky spring onions and latke

Sabrina Ghayour’s recipes for mango and chilli chicken, sticky spring onions and latke

I use this exact cooking method to make every kind of traybaked chicken, and this one is a blend of store-cupboard staples with the addition of fresh lime to push the flavour. Then, I love hash browns, röstis and latkes – give me crispy fried potatoes of any description, and I’m a happy girl – but I won’t lie and tell you that I love frying, because, if I can avoid it, I do: it’s messy, greasy, smelly and uses a fair bit of oil, which is pretty costly. But how to produce a perfectly crispy latke by baking? Well, I’ve managed to do it, and I’m really happy with the results. Mango, lime and chilli chicken (pictured top) Want to save this recipe? Bally’s Chicago casino reaches full height as spring 2027 opening advances

Bally’s Chicago reached a major step toward opening its permanent casino this week after construction crews lifted the final structural steel beam into place, bringing the massive riverfront development to its full height. The topping-off ceremony at 560 W. Grand Ave. signaled that the building’s structural framework is now complete as work shifts toward interior construction and finishing ahead of a planned spring 2027 debut. City officials, labor leaders, project partners and hundreds of construction workers gathered at the former Chicago Tribune Freedom Center site to celebrate the milestone. The $1.7 billion project is expected to create about 3,000 permanent jobs and become Chicago’s first permanent casino destination. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Alderman Walter Burnett Jr., Bally’s Executive Chairman Soo Kim, union leaders, members of the Chicago Community Builders Collective and trades workers attended the event. More than 1,000 tradespeople have worked on the project. “This is a significant milestone for Bally’s Chicago and reflects the incredible effort of the union trades and partners who have made this moment possible,” said Soo Kim in a …

Phillips Spring Auction Sales Jump 60% to $507 M. as Watch Biz Booms

On Tuesday, the auction house Phillips said its spring season generated $507 million in auction sales, a 60 percent increase from a year earlier, as a record-breaking watch business and stronger demand for high-value consignments helped propel one of the house’s best performances in recent years. The auction house said average lot value increased 55 percent over the same period, while maintaining a 90 percent sell-through rate by lot. Evening sales achieved a 94 percent sell-through rate by lot and 99 percent by value, and the season’s hammer-price-to-low-estimate index reached 165 percent. Source link

New laser spring offers new ways to drive plasma

New laser spring offers new ways to drive plasma

Scientists from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and the University of California, Irvine have designed a new high-intensity spiral laser that could revolutionise plasma control technologies. As published in Nature Photonics, the rotating, spring-shaped laser pulse can be tuned over a variety of speeds- including exceeding the speed of light without violating relativity. Traditional laser beams used to interact with plasma are limited to a single point and pace of interaction, which in turn limits findings for new developments in fusion energy, particle acceleration and astrophysics. “For a long time, people have used high-power and high-intensity laser pulses to drive plasmas,” said LLNL scientist and lead author Andrew Longman. “But those lasers are almost always in their simplest configuration. It’s basically a round spot—nothing especially interesting. It’s like hitting the plasma with a hammer. We’re interested in laser pulses that are structured in both space and time because they let us do unusual things, like stir the plasma.” Producing freeform optics down to the nanometer Using specialised beamsplitters- one containing shorter (“blue”) wavelengths and the …

Swiss Institute to Move to Permanent Home on the Bowery Next Spring

Swiss Institute to Move to Permanent Home on the Bowery Next Spring

The New York–based Swiss Institute has acquired the ground floor and lower level of 250 Bowery, which will become its permanent home when it opens in spring 2027. In an interview, Swiss Institute director Stefanie Hessler described the move as a “new chapter” in the institution’s history as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. The organization had been looking for about 2.5 years for a new home while also securing the funds needed to purchase the space. “We wanted to find a space that matches the profile of Swiss Institute,” Hessler said, noting that it was important that the new location “has that downtown feel and character to it that will allow us to show forward-looking exhibitions and invite artists for their first solos and to really bring those international as well as New York perspectives to the Institute.” Source link

Instead, they say, it’s about broader trends; you can’t say for sure whether something like a heatwave will happen based on this information.  Nonetheless, they added, the most “notable” part of their most recent outlook is the expected hotter-than-usual UK summer temperatures.  “It follows that there is an increased chance of heatwave conditions developing at times,” they said. We have already had an unusually hot start to the year, with temperatures reaching a record-breaking 35.1°C in Kew Gardens this May. The Met Office has previously said that hotter summers are becoming more likely in the UK in general. When will the next heatwaves be?  This outlook doesn’t aim to calculate exact dates, nor does it say there definitely will be heatwaves.  But it did mention that higher pressure, …

My Allergy Survival Kit: 5 Products Keeping My Itchy Eyes at Bay This Spring

My Allergy Survival Kit: 5 Products Keeping My Itchy Eyes at Bay This Spring

Every spring, as much as I enjoy the blossoming of flowers and extra greenery, I dread their effect on me: a stuffy nose, red, itchy eyes and general sinus discomfort. As a seasonal allergy sufferer, this is sadly something I’ve become used to, but in the process, I’ve built an allergy toolkit of products that help me stave off my allergy symptoms and allergy-proof my home. Despite seeing pollen on every sidewalk in my neighborhood this spring, and considering that May is usually the worst month for allergies, I haven’t had a single allergic reaction. I think the following products are the reason why. 1. Air purifiers I’m such an air purifier fan that I currently have two, one in each of the high-traffic areas of my apartment: my bedroom and living room. When spring allergy season starts, I typically keep them running on low to continuously catch allergens and prevent them from entering my airways. I bump them up to high whenever my allergy symptoms are particularly bad, or there are wildfires in the …
