GM hopes K Chevy Equinox EV can win back market share

GM hopes $35K Chevy Equinox EV can win back market share

After losing EV market share in the US in the first three months of 2024, GM believes it can turn things around. GM expects new models like the Chevy Equinox EV and improved battery production will help regain EV market share in the second half of the year. A record first quarter, but what about EVs? GM raised full-year guidance after topping Wall St estimates and achieving its best Q1 revenue. The company’s revenue rose 8% to $43 billion with a consistent +15% CAGR growth over the past 24 months. Although Ultium-based vehicle deliveries were up 36% during the quarter, total EV sales slid over 20% YOY as the company’s cheapest Chevy Bolt EV was phased out. GM’s Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV both saw solid sales growth in Q1, with 5,800 (+499%) and 1,668 units sold, respectively. The Blazer EV (600) and Silverado EV (1,061) contributed to the Ultium sales growth. However, it wasn’t enough to maintain market share in the US EV market. With Chevy Bolt EV sales down 64% to just …

People in Portugal: share your memories of the Carnation Revolution | Portugal

After years of fighting colonial wars in Africa, on 25 April 1974 a coup by the Movimento das Forças Armadas (Armed Forces Movement) in Portugal marked the end to Europe’s longest-lasting dictatorship. The country moved towards democracy in what was an almost bloodless transition, with the Carnation Revolution getting its name from flowers being offered to soldiers and placed in the muzzles of their guns. Following last month’s elections the far-right party, Chega, made huge gains quadrupling its parliamentarians from 12 to 48. “It was one of those great ironies of history. Just short of 50 days before the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese revolution, which toppled an almost 50-year dictatorship, the nation woke up to nearly 50 newly elected far-right lawmakers in parliament,” said Joana Ramiro. We would like to hear your memories of the Carnation Revolution ahead of its 50th anniversary. What was it like and how has it affected you? Are you commemorating it in any way? We’re also interested in hearing people’s experiences of Portugal today. Share your memories and experience …

Tories Quietly Share Rise In Channel Crossings During Sunaks Stop The Boats Speech

Tories Quietly Share Rise In Channel Crossings During Sunaks Stop The Boats Speech

Rishi Sunak once again repeated his pledge to “stop the boats” bringing asylum seekers to the UK – as new figures revealed the numbers making the crossing are going up. The Home Office sneaked out the damning data as the PM was holding yet another Downing Street press conference on his plan to deport migrants to Rwanda. At one point he even boasted about how the number of small boat crossings had fallen in 2023 compared to the year before. He said: “When people say ‘can people have confidence and trust’ I’ll just point you to what we’ve already achieved. “Last year, for the first time, the number of small boat crossings were down by 36%.” But this morning’s Home Office publication proved that any progress Sunak made previously has now gone into reverse. It showed that so far this year, there have been 6,265 small boat arrivals to the UK, compared to 5,049 during the same period in 2023 – an increase of 24%. Alistair Carmichael, the Lib Dem home affairs spokesperson, said: “These …

Tinder adds new ‘Share My Date’ safety feature to world’s most used dating app | Science & Tech News

Tinder is adding a new safety feature to the app, so online daters can let friends and families know where they are.  The ‘Share My Date’ feature allows users to share the location, time and a photo of their match. More than one in 10 online adults in the UK use dating apps, according to Ofcom, and Tinder is the most popular, with nearly 2.5 million adults using it in the UK. Although a huge number of people now date online, there are still safety concerns when it comes to swiping right, ranging from scams to stalking and even sexual assault. Image: Tinder is adding a ‘Share My Date’ feature to the app. Pic: Tinder Nearly a quarter of online daters experience digital stalking, according to research from the cyber security firm Kapersky, with 10% admitting their location had been tracked and another 10% reporting their social media accounts or emails had been hacked. As police are given new powers to tackle stalking, Sky’s Tamara Cohen spoke to one woman who was stalked for eight …

LACMA to share collection with Las Vegas museum: How will it work?

LACMA to share collection with Las Vegas museum: How will it work?

Los Angeles County Museum of Art Director Michael Govan may be at the helm of an ambitious — and controversial — building project for the museum’s collection of 152,000-plus objects, but his views on what expansion means for art museums in modern times is more, well, expansive. Which explains a recent announcement that LACMA is partnering with the upcoming Las Vegas Museum of Art to share both expertise and, eventually, its collection. But how exactly will that arrangement work? And why, asked some online commentators (including former Times art and design columnist Carolina A. Miranda), should L.A. County subsidize Clark County, Nev.? In an interview with The Times, Govan emphasized that continual expansion along Wilshire Boulevard would yield diminishing returns. LACMA is instead developing a “strategic plan of regional partnerships” with museums — large and small — in order to pull more of its collection out of storage, and make it accessible to as many people as possible. Rather than enlarging its physical footprint, LACMA aims to broaden its cultural reach, influence and presence in …

Courtesy of Arch City Defenders, Winton Machine Company, Bhavesh Patel and the Just One Project The pandemic throttled many parts of the American economy, just as President Biden was taking office. Since then, jobless numbers have dropped and unemployment is below 4%. Yet, a recent poll conducted by The Economist and YouGov found that more than 50% of participants felt the economy was getting worse overall. And that’s important because Americans often rank the economy as a top voting issue. All Things Considered spoke with four “American Indicators” throughout …

Tinder gets a ‘Share My Date’ feature for users to send date plans to their curious friends

It’s not uncommon for people to screenshot dating profiles and send them to their friends and loved ones, either to get feedback or to let them know who they’re seeing that weekend. Now, Tinder users are able to share their date plans directly from the app thanks to a new feature called “Share My Date.” Tinder announced Monday that users will now be able to send a link that includes details about the upcoming date, including the match’s name, meeting location, date, and time. There’s also an option to type a note at the bottom. Links can be sent up to 30 days prior to the day of the date and are editable, so users can update the details whenever they want. “Share My Date” links are viewable for every recipient, including non-Tinder users. Friends with a Tinder account can view the match’s full profile, but they can’t interact with it, including messaging the match. Non-users see a limited version of the profile in their browser, only being able to see the match’s photos, name, …

5 Divorced People Share The Moment They Knew Their Marriage Was Over

5 Divorced People Share The Moment They Knew Their Marriage Was Over

When it comes to falling in love and getting engaged, it’s often said that “when you know, you know.” That something inside tells you that this person is “the one” who you want to be with forever.  But given how prevalent this narrative is, it stands to reason that a lot — maybe even most — people who have ended up in divorce court had that same kind of moment at one time or another. When a person on Reddit asked users who were divorced how they decided to end their marriage, what emerged was a series of cautionary tales for those getting ready to walk down the aisle. RELATED: Divorce Attorney Warns Couples That Phubbing Is Legit Grounds For Divorce A Reddit user asked, “To those who got divorced — did you experience the ‘when you know you know’ with your ex?” They went on to ask if people saw “potential divorce flags going in,” or whether it took time for things to fall apart, and how their new marriage or relationships differ from their ex-partner. The responses were fascinating and …

A Friend of Obama Who Could Soon Share the World Stage With Trump

A Friend of Obama Who Could Soon Share the World Stage With Trump

Few British politicians have American ties as deep as those of David Lammy, who is set to become Britain’s foreign secretary if the opposition Labour Party wins the coming election, as the polls suggest it will. A son of Guyanese immigrants who grew up poor in working-class London, he spent summers with relatives in Brooklyn and Queens, working at Con Edison, before earning a master’s degree at Harvard Law School and befriending Barack Obama, for whom he canvassed in Chicago during his first presidential campaign. Yet now, on the cusp of becoming Britain’s chief diplomat, Mr. Lammy finds himself facing an uncertain, even potentially hostile, American political landscape. President Biden and the Democrats, with whom Mr. Lammy has cultivated a deep network of contacts, are fighting to hold off a resurgent Donald J. Trump. Having been chosen by the Labour leader, Keir Starmer, partly because of his trans-Atlantic credentials, Mr. Lammy, 51, is scrambling to build ties with Republicans and, more challengingly, with those around Mr. Trump. It’s a very different American establishment from the …

EU and UK citizens: share your views on a resumption of freedom of movement for the young | Brexit

The European Commission has proposed opening negotiations with the UK to allow mobility enjoyed before Brexit to millions of young people in a major concession. Under the envisaged agreement, EU and UK citizens aged between 18 and 30 would be able to stay for up to four years in the destination country, the European Commission said in a statement. If agreed, a youth mobility scheme visa would be issued in those countries that participate, with possible conditions including a requirement for health insurance and proof of sufficient subsistence funds, a feature of other mobility schemes around the world. We’d like to hear what people in the EU and in the UK think of the proposal, how they believe they or their family, their sector or business may be affected by such a policy, and whether they have any concerns. Share your experience Tell us what you make of the proposal to re-introduce freedom of movement for young people between the UK and EU member states, and how you think this may affect you personally, your …
