I ditched laggy Linux remote desktop for this browser-based setup

I ditched laggy Linux remote desktop for this browser-based setup

When I switch from Windows Remote Desktop to Linux, it always comes as a bit of a shock. That’s because the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is native to Microsoft, but with Linux, it feels more improvised. Remoting into my Linux boxes often meant crashed sessions, poor resizing, and laggy performance. It also meant keeping an SSH session open just to restart the Xrdp service when it inevitably crashed. I decided to give the open-source remote access gateway Apache Guacamole a try, but more specifically, a standalone installation on a new server where I could add and access my existing Linux boxes. I chose Guacamole because it allowed me to control an RDP session through a browser over HTTPS. It also solved most of my RDP performance and stability issues that all remote Linux users have faced at least a few times. Hyundai patent reveals new body-on-frame EV battery setup

Hyundai is preparing to launch its first body-on-frame vehicle, a midsize pickup truck. The rugged Boulder Concept SUV is a preview, but a new patent offers a sneak peek at the battery and chassis setup. Hyundai patents body-on-frame EV setup Hyundai is giving people what they want: body-on-frame vehicles powered by electric motors for serious off-roading. Unlike the Santa Cruz, which was Hyundai’s “first stab” at the US pickup market. The segment is currently dominated by Detroit’s Big Three: Ford, GM, and Stellantis, but Hyundai promises the upcoming midsize pickup will take it to the next level. “Once you go body-on-frame, it pushes the boundaries well beyond Santa Cruz,” Hyundai Motor North America CEO Randy Parker told reporters at the NY Auto Show (via Automotive News) last month. Hyundai introduced the Boulder Concept at the event, an SUV that previews its body-on-frame pickup. The rugged SUV looked production-ready with dual safari-style fixed upper windows, oversized 37″ mud-terrain tires, “generous ground clearance,” plus added tow hooks and a roof rack. The concept is “a four-wheeled love letter …

Was The Atlantic’s Kash Patel Smear A Setup To Discredit The SPLC Indictment?

Was The Atlantic’s Kash Patel Smear A Setup To Discredit The SPLC Indictment?

On April 17, The Atlantic published an anonymously sourced hit piece against FBI Director Kash Patel – painting him as a blackout-drunk, paranoid, and erratic executive barely capable of running the nation’s premier law enforcement agency. Three days later, a federal grand jury indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center for wire fraud, false statements, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.  The question conservative circles are now asking is whether the hit piece was deliberately conceived and timed to discredit Patel and the SPLC investigation. Democrats pounced on The Atlantic hit piece, launching an investigation into his behavior the same day that the SPLC indictment was announced. And that was the point of the Atlantic story. See how that works. https://t.co/WRjlc4twIQ — Insurrection Barbie (@DefiyantlyFree) April 22, 2026 According to the Department of Justice, between 2014 and 2023, the organization secretly funneled more than $3 million in donated funds to individuals associated with violent extremist groups – including the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, American Nazi Party, and the National Socialist Party of America.  “They use their …

Portainer turned my chaotic Docker setup into something I could actually see

Portainer turned my chaotic Docker setup into something I could actually see

If you’re still accessing your home Docker setup through the terminal, are you even evolving? My containers were running, services were responding, and my server wasn’t throwing any obvious errors. On paper, everything looked fine. In reality, it felt like I was babysitting a system that only behaved because I kept poking it with the right commands at the right time. Not fragile enough to panic. Not smooth enough to trust. That awkward middle ground where things work … until they very suddenly don’t. Managing everything through the terminal had quietly turned into a ritual. SSH in, run docker ps, squint at container names. I definitely chose in a moment of overconfidence, open logs, miss something, open more logs, question my life choices, and repeat. It worked, but it wasn’t clean. It wasn’t fast. And it definitely wasn’t something I enjoyed. Installing Portainer didn’t magically make Docker better. It just removed the layer of friction I had gotten so used to that I stopped noticing it was there. Related I access my home server from …

This is the ad-free news app setup I wish I used sooner

Before I log in for the day and start typing away, I like to check the news to see what’s going on in the world. Regardless of the news organization I’m using, the number of videos, audio, and pop-up ads that inundate my screen can be maddening. If severe weather is on the way, or there’s something major happening in my area, I don’t need to see ads for Bob’s Discount Furniture before I know if my house is about to get blown away. That’s when I discovered a beautiful, Material-based open-source news application that lets me view what I want, when I want it. It may be a little boring to look at, but rather than getting overstimulated at the start of the day, I can just look at the news. Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that make life better. 5 cable management tricks every desk setup needs

5 cable management tricks every desk setup needs

My basement office had a cable problem that stopped exactly at the desk’s edge. Everything above it looked intentional. Everything below was a disaster. It took going through several rounds of cable fixes throughout the house before I gave my desk itself the same systematic treatment. These five tricks cover the scenarios that come up in almost every desk setup, from under the frame to the wall behind the monitor. Adhesive cable clips keep the underside of your desk in check Map your cable lanes before you stick anything down The layout matters more than the clips themselves. Think about which cables you actually touch day-to-day: charging cables need to stay near the front edge, where you can reach them without crawling underneath, while power cords can live along the back since they’re basically permanent once plugged in. Data cables — HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet — run through the middle. That’s it. Once the logic is clear, placement becomes obvious. VAMRONE Adhesive Cable Management Clips are well-suited for this. A 50-pack runs under $10. The adjustable …
