Star Trek legend Brent Spiner has opened up on a spin-off series that sadly never made the light of day. The Star Trek franchise has now been running for 60 years, with Spiner part of the world of the USS Enterprise and beyond since he made his first appearance as Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987. After seven seasons of Next Generation, Data has maintained a consistent presence in the Star Trek universe, with Spiner appearing in two spin-off series and four films – even getting a writing credit for 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis – as well as lending his voice to five video games. But speaking in New York ahead of the new Star Trek documentary, The Sixty-Year Mission, Spiner said there was even more of the story to be told. The actor has revealed a sequel to Star Trek: Nemesis was initially planned, which was “going to be fantastic”, bringing together multiple characters from throughout every part of the franchise in a story around the Mirror Universe and time travel. …

Fans of the 2018 romcom Crazy Rich Asians have been waiting for news of a potential sequel for years – and now an update has finally arrived. The movie, which starred Constance Wu and Henry Golding and was based on the novel by Kevin Kwan, was a huge box office success story, grossing more than $239 million worldwide. It was a critical hit, too, and rumours of a second movie, inspired by later books in Kwan’s series, began to circulate. It has now been confirmed, however, that the sequel will come in the form of a TV series, rather than a film. The series will include eight episodes and will feature returning cast members Wu, Golding and Ronny Chieng. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will also reprise her role as Wu’s formidable on-screen mother-in-law. It’s big things poppin’ for all things having to do with The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. View this post on Instagram First off, the 2021 mega-bestselling STEMinist romance, which began as a Reylo fanfic, has already been adapted into a buzzy new film that just came out on September 23rd on Prime Video. Secondly, Hazelwood announced Tuesday that not only will The Love Hypothesis have a sequel—titled The Two-Body Problem (which is an obvious riff off of Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem)—but that sequel is already set to be adapted by MRC for Amazon MGM Studios. Hazelwood shared the cover of the new book on Instagram, as well as a few deets on what to expect in the sequel: “The Two-Body Problem spans a couple of years, and it’s a mix of slice of life, postdoctoral turmoil, and unflinching exploration of the hardest challenge one will face in a long-term relationship: deciding what to have for dinner.”

When Practical Magic was released in October 1998, there was little reason to expect the story of the Owens sisters to continue almost three decades later. Despite the star power of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, and its $94.4 million global box office earnings, the film never felt like an obvious franchise starter. Critical perception was also largely negative, with the film earning a 31% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But all of that changed when Practical Magic developed a cult following years after its theatrical run ended. The movie even entered the HBO Max Top 10 shortly after arriving on the service in 2024. By all accounts, Donnie Darko shouldn’t exist.  The film, which turns 25 years old this year, ran into numerous obstacles both before and during its storied production. A sequel to the beloved 2005 Christmas movie The Family Stone is officially in the works. Sarah Jessica Parker is among the many members of the original ensemble cast confirmed to return for the new film, along with Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Brian White and Paul Schneider. One key member of the cast will be missing: the late Diane Keaton, who died last October at the age of 79. The plot of the first film followed the family as they came to terms with her character Sybil’s terminal diagnosis and eventual death. Practical Magic 2 will, unfortunately, have to be filed away next to the other poorly justified, cash-grab sequels. While the 1998 original did leave the door slightly ajar to the possibility that witch sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gilly Owens (Nicole Kidman) failed to break the family curse that doomed any man they love to die, all its sequel does is circle around the same track with additional, diluted backstory. We’ve barely begun before Sally and Gilly are back in their aunts’ ginormous kitchen arguing because the former has suppressed her magic and the latter has embraced it. Sally has continued to withhold knowledge of their inherited gifts from her now grown-up daughters, Kylie (Joey King, replacing Evan Rachel Wood, who appeared in the original and really should have been asked to return) and Antonia (Maisie Williams). When the Days of Thunder follow up film was announced Saturday by Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway, many fans were thrilled — with one notable exception. Randy Quaid, who starred with Cruise in the original 1990 Nascar film, ranted about Hathaway’s casting in a post on X. “Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA,” Quaid began. “The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole,” he continued, likely referring to Nicole Kidman who starred in the original film. “That’s the casting that would sell the idea.
