Dear Truck Owners: Secure Your Tailgates

Dear Truck Owners: Secure Your Tailgates

First, thieves were cutting catalytic converters off petrol-powered vehicles because of the valuable platinum, palladium, and rhodium inside the exhaust systems, which convert toxic engine gases into safer emissions. Now, it appears thieves are targeting trucks in one part of the country, not for precious metals, but for entire tailgates. CBS affiliate KHOU 11, which serves Houston, Texas, recently reported on a vehicle-parts theft ring targeting trucks for their tailgates. The outlet interviewed a Texas truck owner whose tailgate had been stolen. While searching Facebook Marketplace for a replacement, he stumbled across something unexpectedly familiar: his own tailgate. The finding led Harris County Precinct 4 deputies to recover eight stolen tailgates from an apartment garage in Harris County, situated in the northwestern part of the Houston metropolitan area, and arrest two 27-year-old men. Investigators said the owner had placed unique markings on the tailgate before it was stolen, allowing deputies to verify that the item advertised online belonged to him. “Our complainants had some unique markings on the tailgate that we were able to verify belonged to the …

British Official ‘Proposed’ to Secure Bayeux Tapestry Loan

British Official ‘Proposed’ to Secure Bayeux Tapestry Loan

The Bayeux Tapestry is set for its big moment at the British Museum this fall, but the New York Times is dishing on how the loan came to be. In a feature published Tuesday, reporter Alex Marshall reveals the many behind-the-scenes negotiations that brought the famed Romanesque-style textile artwork depicting the 1066 Norman invasion back home to the UK. The most recent loan request was far from the first: the UK had previously asked for the work in 1953, 1966, and 1980. So what changed? As Marshall tells it, Chris Bryant, a senior UK official, went to the Cannes Film Festival last year to meet with Rachida Dati, France’s then–culture minister. (Dati, a controversial figure for her right-wing views, stepped down in February to run for mayor of Paris.) At Cannes, Dati arrived 25 minutes late to a 30-minute meeting, at which point she told Bryant that she had good news on the tapestry, but that he had to, in Marshall’s words, “get on his knees and propose.” Source link

Joshua bounces back to secure knockout win over Prenga

Joshua bounces back to secure knockout win over Prenga

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, July 25 : Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua survived a first-round onslaught before knocking out Albanian Kristian Prenga to clear the path for his long-awaited showdown with fellow Briton Tyson Fury. Fighting for the first time since two of his best friends died in a car crash in Nigeria in December in which he was injured, the 36-year-old Joshua was floored by a thunderous right uppercut within the opening 30 seconds, and he took another count late in the first round. Joshua made it to the bell and came out all guns blazing in the second round, unleashing huge right hands of his own to knock Prenga into the ropes, and the Albanian could not recover as the fight was ended by the referee. Fury beat Mariusz Wach in Thailand on Friday in a fight that was not broadcast live on television, with the 46-year-old Pole retiring on his stool before the eighth round. Joshua’s victory cleared the way for a bout between the two Britons that has been agreed for later …

Nothing on the Internet Is Secure Anymore

Nothing on the Internet Is Secure Anymore

Late last month, I began to consider withdrawing some money from my savings account to buy gold. It’s the first time I’ve ever thought about panic-buying. For all of the firewalls and two-factor-authentication codes, the safety of the internet is starting to falter. Hackers are gaining the upper hand over organizations around the world—hospitals, energy grids, government agencies, and, yes, banks. As AI tools have become extremely good at writing code, they’ve also become extremely good at pulling off cyberattacks. (Malware, after all, is still software.) The result has been a change in the scale, speed, and sophistication of hacks that is difficult to overstate: Among its tens of thousands of clients, the cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks identified a fourfold increase in daily attacks from 2024 to 2025. Hackers are developing AI-enhanced computer viruses that adapt on the fly to avoid detection. They are automating cyber-espionage campaigns on foreign governments. They are stealing data in minutes instead of hours. “There’s a crazy amount of offensive activity happening right now,” Alex Stamos, a former chief …

Best VPN in the US for 2026: Fast, secure, and streaming-ready

Best VPN in the US for 2026: Fast, secure, and streaming-ready

Millions of people in the United States use a VPN to protect themselves from unwanted surveillance and hackers seeking access to their personal data. Virtual private networks (VPNs) provide a vital layer of protection and privacy, enabling access to international content libraries and streaming services. In fact, 42% of Americans use a VPN, making it no longer a niche privacy tool but a mainstream one. Online privacy in the U.S. is shrinking. The 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act still risks torrenting users. ISPs throttle bandwidth during streaming or torrenting. Increased surveillance from government and corporations raises privacy concerns. VPNs help by masking IPs and encrypting traffic, making monitoring harder. VPNs unlock global content by bypassing geo-restrictions and accessing international sites. They also protect users’ data on public Wi-Fi, like at cafes or airports, from hackers. In this guide, we’ve reviewed and curated a list of top VPNs that balance performance, privacy and ease of use, tailored to the unique challenges and needs of Americans. Our list of top VPNs for U.S.-based users in 2026 evaluates providers against several …

The next election could be less secure

The next election could be less secure

With the 2026 midterms less than six months away, the Election Security Group would normally be busy helping prepare the nation’s election infrastructure. The federal task force typically briefs Congress on upcoming threats and engages with state and local leaders to game out scenarios ranging from ransomware to critical infrastructure attacks on Election Day. But Gen. Joshua Rudd, director of the National Security Agency and commander of the U.S. Cyber Command – the two agencies that jointly run the Election Security Group – told the Senate Armed Services Committee on April 28, 2026, that he didn’t know whether the group had been set up yet. The Election Security Group has worked every federal election cycle since 2018, but, as of mid-May, there is no public indication it has been activated. This pending Election Security Group activation follows the Trump administration’s 2025 decision to defund the Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the threat-sharing hub that helped make 2024 the most cyber-secure election in U.S. history, according to the Center for Internet Security, a nonprofit …

Monet Once Pledged His Paintings to Secure a Loan, a Letter Reveals

Monet Once Pledged His Paintings to Secure a Loan, a Letter Reveals

Paintings by Impressionist artist Claude Monet (1840–1926) are some of the most valuable artworks in the world; in 2019 his Meules (Haystacks) soared to $110.7 million at Sotheby’s New York, setting an auction record for an Impressionist painting that still stands today. From glowing haystacks painted at different hours of the day to his monumental Nymphéas (Water Lilies) canvases and ethereal Venetian cityscapes, Monet’s work has attracted a global following of collectors eager to own a piece of his luminous art. But at the beginning of his career Monet, like many of the Impressionists, struggled to make ends meet. As reported by Artnet News, a letter confirming a loan to the artist from Gustave Manet, a brother of Monet’s fellow Impressionist Édouard Manet, will be among a tranche of Monet’s correspondence coming up for auction at Autograph Auctions on March 25. 2 Ways Emotionally Secure People Handle Tough Conversations

2 Ways Emotionally Secure People Handle Tough Conversations

Relationships that matter will, at some point, require two people to sit across from each other and have a hard conversation. Disappointment, hurt, boundaries, power, change or loss — no matter how emotionally challenging the topic, they’re all non-negotiable subjects that need to be discussed in relationships. In a sense, they’re a part of the regular relationship curriculum that people don’t talk about. What sets emotionally secure people apart is neither that they don’t avoid these conversations, nor do they wish to“win” them. It is that they treat themselves differently, both internally and externally. Their nervous systems, approach to cognitive appraisals and relationship strategies work together in ways that reduce threat, increase clarity and preserve connection, even when a conversation is exceptionally hard. Emotional security is closely linked to secure attachment, effective emotion regulation and a stable sense of self that does not depend on constant external validation. These individuals are better at managing interpersonal conflict, experience lower physiological stress reactivity and, as a result, maintain higher relationship satisfaction over time. Here are two behaviors …

Ian Huntley to be sent to £300,000-a-year secure hospital if he survives | UK | News

Soham murderer Ian Huntley faces being transferred to a £300,000-a-year secure hospital funded by the taxpayer should he survive the prison assault, according to reports. The cost would be substantially higher than the £85,000 required to detain the double murderer alongside fellow killers and sex offenders at HMP Frankland, County Durham. However, it is believed Huntley cannot be returned there should he pull through, as he would face considerable danger from fellow prisoners, The Mirror reports. Only three secure hospitals are authorised to accommodate Category A inmates: Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire, Rampton in Nottinghamshire and Ashworth in Merseyside. Sources suggest Huntley, the ex-school caretaker, would be moved to Ashworth, representing a dramatic change from the harsh conditions of Frankland, dubbed Monster Mansion.
