Minister repeats incorrect claim about Labour’s asylum hotels record

Minister repeats incorrect claim about Labour’s asylum hotels record

During a debate in Parliament earlier this week junior Home Office minister Jo White MP claimed that the number of hotels being used to house asylum seekers “has fallen from 400 when we came into power to fewer than 160.” This isn’t correct. The number of hotels in use peaked at “over 400 in summer 2023”, under the previous Conservative government, but had fallen to 213 by the time Labour came to power in July 2024. The Home Office said in August 2026 that fewer than 160 hotels remained in use. We’ve previously fact checked similar versions of this claim made by several Labour MPs and ministers. The world record for the longest electric motorcycle ride has just been obliterated

The world record for the longest electric motorcycle ride has just been obliterated

The world record for the longest journey on an electric motorcycle on a single charge has just been absolutely demolished. And it was done so by a Zero Motorcycles rider traveling 436.5 km (271.2 miles) before finally running out of juice. The ride, completed by Belgian rider Jelle Verstaen aboard a Zero DS electric motorcycle, earned a new Guinness World Records title and blew past the previous record of 310.7 km (193 miles) by more than 125 km (78 miles). And this wasn’t some one-off aerodynamic streamliner built specifically to chase a record. The bike was a production Zero DS equipped with the company’s optional Power Tank, bringing total battery capacity to 19.2 kWh. Verstaen was joined for the ride by two others on Zeros as well, with all three beating the previous record. The record attempt began high in the French Alps and eventually wound its way down toward the Mediterranean coast, with Verstaen aiming to maintain an average cruising speed of around 52 km/h (32 mph). That might not sound particularly fast for …

This hurricane season in the Pacific just set a record for activity

A record for tropical storm and hurricane activity has just been set in the eastern and central Pacific Ocean. A hurricane near Mexico’s west coast, named Simon, cemented 2026’s place in the record books as the busiest year on record for storm activity in these ocean regions. That’s based on a measure of the cumulative duration of strong winds, surpassing the record set in 2018. Source link

Log in A rare Led Zeppelin single the band ordered to be destroyed has come to light on Antiques Roadshow, with an estimated auction value of about £1,000. The record appeared on the latest episode of the BBC programme, which was hosted at Caerphilly Castle in Wales. A man brought along a copy of the 7-inch single and told expert Marc Allum it was given to him in a record shop in the early 1970s. “I was looking for records to start a disco and out of his bag came a couple of records and he went ‘you can have those’,” he said. Allum said the single was never officially released in the UK and “shouldn’t really exist”. “There are a lot of myths and stories that build up around these things, and I heard that 500 were pressed and they went out,” he said. “This came about apparently because there was …

Zach Bryan Breaks Gillette Stadium’s Record While in Free Palestine Shirt

Zach Bryan Breaks Gillette Stadium’s Record While in Free Palestine Shirt

Zach Bryan broke a record while performing at Gillette Stadium in a “Free Palestine” shirt, just weeks after Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran‘s tour ahead of his shows at the Robert Kraft-owned stadium over his pro-Palestine speeches. Bryan wore a “Free Palestine” shirt during his Friday and Saturday night shows for his With Heaven On Tour. He reportedly did not address the shirt or comment further onstage about Palestine. “Tonight, Zach Bryan broke the Gillette Stadium attendance record with 73,538 fans!” Gillette Stadium wrote on his official Instagram page Saturday. The Hollywood Reporter previously reached out to Kraft’s rep for comment. Bryan’s “Free Palestine” shirt comes amid controversy surrounding Macklemore after the rapper was dropped as an opener for Sheeran‘s Loop Tour last month after making headlines for his pro-Palestine speeches during his performances. At the time, the tour promoter stated that upcoming venues hosting shows, including Gillette Stadium, threatened to pull out if Macklemore remained on the lineup. In response to being dropped from the tour, Macklemore alleged that Kraft “rallied some of …

Lilly’s “Incredible Hulk” Obesity Combo Delivers Record 23% Weight Loss In Diabetics

Eli Lilly’s experimental combination of eloralintide and Mounjaro delivered average weight loss of up to 23% in people with diabetes, strengthening the company’s competitive edge against Novo Nordisk in the obesity and diabetes treatment market. Participants who received the highest dose lost an average of 54 pounds over 48 weeks. Their A1C, a measure of average blood sugar, fell 2.9 percentage points from a baseline of 8.1%, with up to three-quarters reaching normal blood sugar levels, according to Bloomberg. “This could open up even a next frontier in weight loss,” Ken Custer, president of Lilly’s cardiometabolic unit, stated. Ken Griffin Pledges Record Billion To Carnegie Mellon, With Billion Going To Miami

Ken Griffin Pledges Record $3 Billion To Carnegie Mellon, With $2 Billion Going To Miami

Mamdani wants New York’s billionaires to cough up more money. Maybe he should call Florida and ask how they’re getting them to hand it over voluntarily. Because Miami just scored a $3 billion pledge from billionaire Ken Griffin, with $2 billion earmarked for a brand new Carnegie Mellon campus in the city, according to Forbes. The massive commitment represents Griffin’s latest investment in Miami’s evolution into a major center for finance, technology and entrepreneurship. The Citadel founder is directing the bulk of the money toward establishing Carnegie Mellon in South Florida, adding a major research university to the city’s rapidly expanding business ecosystem. Under the plan announced Wednesday, Carnegie Mellon will develop a 35-acre campus in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. Work on the project is slated to begin in 2027, with the first graduate students expected to arrive in 2028. Another $1 billion will go toward Carnegie Mellon’s operations in Pittsburgh. That money will support financial aid and other university priorities, while a substantial portion will be directed to its renowned computer science program, which will …
