Resident Evil Reboot with Zach Cregger Ignites Bidding War

Resident Evil Reboot with Zach Cregger Ignites Bidding War

The fight for Zach Cregger’s new movie is on. In what seems to have become the first major auction of the year, an intense bidding war is underway for a reboot of Resident Evil, the horror action movie franchise based on the popular video games. Cregger is attached to write and direct. Four studios are elbowing for the win, among them Warner Bros. and Netflix, according to sources. Constantin Film, which has held the screen rights to the title since the late 1990s and has been behind the previous movies, will produce the reboot along with PlayStation Productions. The movies, six starring Milla Jovovich plus one origin feature made during the pandemic, have been moneymakers. But Cregger is the reason studios are willing to shell out major money. Cregger was an actor and comedian who reinvented himself as a cutting edge filmmaker with Barbarian, the 2022 cult hit that he wrote and directed. It also established him as a new voice in horror, and when he went out with his follow-up horror project, a bidding war …

Peter Dinklage Is Optimistic ‘Toxic Avenger’ Reboot Will Get Released

Peter Dinklage is so proud of his The Toxic Avenger reboot that he just wants more people to finally get to see it. The Emmy-winning actor was recently asked if the film could get a wide release soon, given it was “a really big hit” after it opened the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, last year. “No, I’m not a producer on it. I don’t know,” Dinklage admitted to ComicBook.com. “I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director who is also in The Thicket … He’s incredible. He’s one of my favorite people and favorite artists.” The Game of Thrones alum added, “So hopefully it will have its day in the toxic sun.” The Toxic Avenger, a reimagining of the original 1984 cult-favorite movie, follows Dinklage’s Winston Gooze, a janitor whose employer refuses to cover treatment for his terminal illness. But after robbing the company, Winston falls into toxic waste and aims to right society’s wrongs as the Toxic …

‘The Maze Runner’ Movie Reboot in the Works at 20th Century

The Maze Runner is back at the starting line. 20th Century Studios is rebooting the sci-fi action adventure franchise, which ran as a trilogy from 2014 to 2018. The Disney arm is in negotiations to tap Jack Paglen, perhaps best known for writing the Johnny Depp-starring sci-fi movie Transcendence, to pen the script for a new installment. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman of Gotham Group and Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill, who produced the original trilogy, are back to produce this one. Wes Ball, who directed the original trilogy, will also be involved as a producer. Based on the best-selling books by James Dashner, the first Maze Runner tome, and the movie adaptation, centered on a group of teens who find themselves arriving in a walled setting named the Glade with their memories wiped out. Beyond the four walls of the encampment lies a maze, filled with deadly mechanical creatures and doors that shut every night at sundown. One new arrival figures out the key to the groups’ survival and attempts to …

Paul Walter Hauser Joins Liam Neeson in Reboot Movie

Paul Walter Hauser is ready to fight crime alongside Liam Neeson in the reboot of the Naked Gun franchise. Hauser is set to play Captain Ed in director Akiva Schaffer’s untitled new Naked Gun film that Paramount Pictures plans to release July 18, 2025. George Kennedy previously played the role in the original film trilogy that kicked off with the 1988 comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! Dan Gregor and Doug Mand penned the new movie’s script with Schaffer. The two scribes previously wrote the director’s Emmy-winning Disney+ feature Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins of Fuzzy Door produce the project that is based on the Naked Gun film franchise and the television series Police Squad! from Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. Daniel M. Stillman serves as executive producer. Hauser joins the cast that includes Neeson and Pamela Anderson. While plot details are under wraps, The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Neeson will play bumbling detective Frank Drebin, originated in the franchise by the late Leslie Nielsen. For free real time breaking news alerts sent straight to your inbox sign up to our breaking news emails Sign up to our free breaking news emails The showrunner of Netflix’s animated reboot of the classic sitcom Good Times has defended the series after it was mauled by critics, saying: “I know you’re used to the sweet sitcom, but this is not only a reimagination, it’s in a different genre that requires it to be loud and offensive.” The new series has been widely panned. It currently has a score of 12% from critics and 28% from audiences on reviews aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. In a joint article for HuffPost, Erin E Evans, Candice Frederick and Taryn Finley accused the series of perpetuating tired stereotypes. “The Good Times reboot is another example of Hollywood executives’ laziness and sheer lack of innovation when it comes to creating art for and by Black folks,” argued Evans. “That this series was greenlighted and attached to the legacy of the original series is a damn, damn, damn shame.” Frederick added: “It’s a …

‘Blair Witch Project’ Actor Joshua Leonard Slams Reboot, Calls It ‘Icky and Classless’

‘Blair Witch Project’ Actor Joshua Leonard Slams Reboot, Calls It ‘Icky and Classless’

Joshua Leonard, one of the main stars of the original The Blair Witch Project, is slamming the recently announced reboot of the franchise.  In an Instagram post over the weekend, the 48-year-old actor claimed that the new film’s production companies, Lionsgate and Blumhouse, have been using a screengrab of his face from the 1999 film to promote the remake and listed off a series of issues that he and the fellow actors and creators have experienced in the 25 years since the film was made.  Among the issues, Leonard claims that despite the film making a whopping $248 million at the box office, he and his fellow actors — Heather Donahue and Michael C. Williams — only received $300,00 apiece while studio executives reportedly said the actors each made $4 million.  “I’m so proud of our little punk-rock movie, and I LOVE the fans who keep the flames burning. But at this point, it’s 25 years of disrespect from the folks who’ve pocketed the lion’s share (pun intended) of the profits from OUR work, and that feels …

Everything You Need To Know About The Scary Movie Reboot

Everything You Need To Know About The Scary Movie Reboot

Scary Movie, the film franchise that mercilessly dunked on 90s horror flicks such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, is expected to be rebooted in 2025. Paramount Pictures will be partnering with the Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz to bring this format back to life after it came to a halt in 2013. The film is expected to go into production in 2024 and arrive in cinemas in 2025. Very exciting news for those who were missing the parody-era of films. Why is Scary Movie coming back now? After 11 years and five successful films, it may seem a little strange to bring these films back, but there have been so many incredible horrors over the past decade that the filmmakers will have plenty to work with. With films like Hereditary, Pearl, M3GAN and Smile being just some of the most popular horrors over the past decade, this is now an ideal time to lampoon these chilling flicks and bring back horror-comedy joy. This will be part of the …

Netflix’s Ripley: Everything you need to know about ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ reboot

Netflix’s Ripley: Everything you need to know about ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ reboot

It seems fortuitous that Ripley is launching on the heels of Saltburn being likened to a budget-friendly version of the original 1999 film The Talented Mr Ripley, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow.  This eight-episode limited series, like the film, is based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel of the same name. Andrew Scott portrays Tom Ripley, Johnny Flynn is Dickie Greenleaf, and Dakota Fanning plays his girlfriend Marge Sherwood. “When the chance came to tell the first Ripley novel in long form, rather than just the two hours of a feature, I took it,” says Academy Award winner creator, writer and director Steven Zaillian of the reboot.  “I felt I could get closer to the rhythms of her tale and Tom’s character this way. She sometimes describes events in real time and in great detail, which is quite effective in linking us to Tom Ripley and somehow making us complicit in his crimes, and the longer form allowed me to do this visually.” © Courtesy of NetflixDakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, Johnny Flynn …

Gladiators: The BBC One reboot is the most radically kind show on TV

Stay ahead of the trend in fashion and beyond with our free weekly Lifestyle Edit newsletter Stay ahead of the trend in fashion and beyond with our free weekly Lifestyle Edit newsletter Culture tends to move at such a pace that it’s rare for you and your children to have the exact same televisual epiphany. However, I’m fairly sure my kids and I have all had a form of awakening watching our respective eras of Gladiators: the musclebound game show that has tested strength, speed and the figure-revealing elasticity of Lycra every Saturday night on BBC One since mid-January. I never thought the series, a reboot of the Nineties ITV mainstay, would work in 2024. I honestly thought it would be an irrelevant joke; a show out of step with modern sensibilities; something that sensitive, tut-tutting woke liberal parents like me would instantly find fault with. After all, it’s competitive, there’s a gender binary, it had the aura of a racist past back in the day (thanks to Black Gladiators being crassly named things like …
