He was 32. The musician, whose real name was Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr, grew up in the Atlanta suburb of College Park, Georgia. His 2014 debut single “U Guessed It” was a landmark of the trap genre and became a viral hit on Vine and other social media platforms. An official remix featuring 2 Chainz helped the song reach the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The 33-year-old Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, was indicted in 2022 on charges related to his alleged leadership of street gang YSL, or Young Slime Life. Members of the gang have been accused of committing illegal and violent acts, including murder, armed robbery, drug dealing and carjacking. NBC News reports that the trial has become the longest-running criminal trial in the history of Georgia. Earlier this week, three of Young Thug’s co-defendants Quamarvious Nichols, 29, Marquavius Huey, 28, and Rodalius Ryan, 18, took plea deals after speculation that Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker could order a mistrial. US rapper and hype man Fatman Scoop has died aged 53. The musician’s family confirmed the news with “profound sadness and very heavy hearts” in a post on his Instagram page. Toronto Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk said video of the shooting had been recovered and the guard who was wounded remains hospitalised.
