Battle over Dodgers gondola plays out at Chinatown housing project

Battle over Dodgers gondola plays out at Chinatown housing project

Maria Lemus doesn’t remember exactly when she heard about a proposed gondola between Union Station and Dodger Stadium, but it was likely at the back-to-school backpack giveaway or the Christmas toy giveaway. The gondola’s team had been showing up at her family’s housing project, the 415-unit William Mead Homes, for “the past four or five years” to make the pitch for the 1.2-mile gondola over Chinatown and answer doubters’ questions. The homes are less than a quarter-mile from Los Angeles State Historic Park, one of three stops along the route. “They have been coming to community events,” she said. “They have given our kids scholarships. They have brought turkeys and baskets of food to our community for Thanksgiving. “ A company funded by former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt first proposed the gondola in 2018, selling the idea to politicians, the community and others as an alternative to the congested entry into the stadium that clogs neighboring streets. On Thursday, the project passed a major hurdle when the board of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation …

Leonardo kicks off Space Cloud project for Italy’s armed forces

ROME : Italy’s state-owned Leonardo said on Monday that the Ministry of Defence had asked it to study the development of its military space cloud architecture project, the first in Europe. The project, dubbed MILSCA, will provide Italy’s government and armed forces with a system of high-performing computing, cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) and storage capacity directly in space, the statement said. During the two-year study, Leonardo will cooperate with Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space, two joint ventures between the Italian defence and aerospace group and France’s Thales. It falls in line with Leonardo’s main goals for the years ahead to focus on the space industry – key for defence and security in the future – and setting up interconnected, multi-domained digitalised platforms, aimed at supporting its traditional products. MILSCA will guarantee users access to strategic data such as communications, earth observation, and navigation data, anywhere and at any time. It can grant higher speed and flexibility in the processing and sharing of information, with 100 Terabytes of data storage on Earth and in space …

Sir Paul McCartney reunited with ‘stolen’ Hofner guitar after 50 years thanks to search driven by The Lost Bass Project | Ents & Arts News

Sir Paul McCartney has been reunited with his bass guitar, on which he strummed the famous tunes Twist And Shout and She Loves You for The Beatles, after it went missing more than 50 years ago. The Hofner 500/1 bass, which is now estimated to be worth £10m, went missing in 1972. It was allegedly stolen from the back of a van in Notting Hill, London. Its whereabouts were unknown for decades but in 2018 a group intent on tracking down the German-made instrument, The Lost Bass Project, launched a search for it. The pace of the search was initially slow but picked up after worldwide media coverage and soon the project received dozens of leads and hundreds of people willing to help. Receiving the tip-off that it had been stolen, the group – which includes Hofner executive Nick Wass – discovered the violin-shaped bass was allegedly sold to a pub landlord in the Ladbroke Grove area. The project suspected it had remained in the landlord’s family. More on Sir Paul Mccartney After numerous TV …

SPUTNIK / VIA REUTERS The system has not yet been deployed, but it is causing some degree of panic in Washington. A European project dedicated to the reduction of global CO2 emissions

A European project dedicated to the reduction of global CO2 emissions

Over four years, the EU-funded project ASTRABAT developed new all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries suitable to support the electric mobility growth in the following years. To date, only 2% of the world’s passenger vehicles are electric due to factors such as limited battery autonomy and high costs. But a dramatic change is needed with the transport sector causing a quarter of Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions. However, current lithium-ion battery technology still has drawbacks, such as limited energy density, safety issues, unsustainable production processes, and end-of-life issues. To address this, the European research project ASTRABAT (All-Solid-sTate Reliable BATtery for 2025) developed a new solid-state lithium-ion battery for future electric vehicles and used the latest generation of materials. With a total budget of €8m, the project within a consortium of 14 partners and coordinated by CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) has fostered strong partnerships and collaborations among academia, industry and research institutions across Europe. A double polymer electrolyte specific to high energy density electrodes ASTRABAT project‘s concept is based on developing a hybrid electrolyte, allowing it …

The Dawn Project got in trouble with the feds for its anti-Tesla FSD Super Bowl ad

The Dawn Project got in trouble with the feds for its anti-Tesla FSD Super Bowl ad

The Dawn Project, a group that runs ads attacking Tesla’s full self-driving system, has received a letter from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) demanding that it cease using its logo in advertising, which Dawn Project did in contravention of US federal law in its Super Bowl ad aired this weekend. The Dawn Project is run by Dan O’Dowd, CEO of a software company which sells automotive driving software services, putting it in competition with Tesla. The Dawn Project itself is founded and funded by O’Dowd via his significant personal wealth (his net wealth isn’t public, but is estimated to be around a billion dollars), with the main goal of attacking Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system (FSD), claiming it to be unsafe. The group has placed several advertisements online making dubious claims about FSD, posing as a public interest group solely interested in “making computers safe for humanity.” Its campaign has drawn a cease-and-desist letter from Tesla. Dan O’Dowd also ran for California’s US Senate seat in 2022, with a campaign that largely focused on this …
