Professional Strictly Come Dancing performer Katya Jones defends celebrity partner Wynne Evans after ‘hand incident’ goes viral | Ents & Arts News

A professional Strictly dancer has defended her dance partner after a viral video caused hundreds of people to suggest he had made her uncomfortable. During Saturday night’s show, Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans slid his hand around the middle of Katya Jones’ waist, which she then pushed away. The now-viral moment happened while host Claudia Winkleman revealed voting lines were open for this week’s show. It caused hundreds of people on social media to speculate that Jones was uncomfortable during the interaction. Image: Wynne Evans. File pic: PA A second clip of the pair then went viral of Evans, a Welsh opera singer, trying to high-five Jones and getting rejected. After the pair began trending on social media, they posted a video together saying the high-five incident was just a “silly joke”. Evans, who became famous for acting in the operatic Go Compare adverts, said in the caption on the post: “We were just messing around. We really are amazing friends.” Now, Jones has responded directly to the clip of her moving Evans’ hand away …

Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves spun off the track as he made his professional motor racing debut at a famous US circuit. The star spun on to the grass without crashing as he competed in the Toyota GR Cup at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. Reeves, 60, came off the track on the exit of turn nine, a little over halfway through the 45-minute race, but got back on and continued driving, signalling that he wasn’t hurt. A veteran activist joined Columbia protesters. Police call her a ‘professional agitator.’

A veteran activist joined Columbia protesters. Police call her a ‘professional agitator.’

As pro-Palestinian student protesters took over a building at Columbia University in New York City early Tuesday, one person in the crowd outside stood out — a gray-haired woman who delivered orders to young people helping to barricade a door. “Tie it right to the lock,” she told two masked protesters holding zip ties, according to video posted on social media. The protesters did as they were told, using the ties on a metal table pressed against the door of Hamilton Hall.  “Let’s give them a little cover,” the older woman told the crowd. “Cameras back. Cameras back.” The woman was not a Columbia University student or faculty member. She, in fact, has no known affiliation to the school at all.  She is a 63-year-old veteran activist named Lisa Fithian, whom the New York Police Department described as a “professional agitator.” The takeover of Hamilton Hall was a significant escalation in the strategy used by students demanding that Columbia divest from corporations that could be profiting from the war in Gaza. Both New York Mayor Eric …

Mike Tyson v Jake Paul sanctioned as professional boxing match – and rules announced | Ents & Arts News

Mike Tyson’s fight with Jake Paul has been sanctioned as a professional boxing match by Texas authorities. It means it will appear on their official record but will be shorter than most pro fights, taking place over eight two-minute rounds. The gloves will also be more padded at 14oz, rather than the 10oz normally used. There had been speculation over the rules of the fight, and whether it would just be an exhibition match, given the age gap between 57-year-old Tyson and Paul, 27. Some have also raised health concerns, with worries Tyson’s punching power could seriously injure his less experienced opponent. Training videos have shown the US fighter pounding the punch bag with his trademark ferocity. However, others have questioned his fitness and believe Tyson could be hurt given the exertions of fighting a much younger man. The fight was announced last month and takes place on 20 July in Arlington. Netflix is streaming it live. Promoters had been working with the Texas licensing authorities to get it signed off as an official match. …

ESL One Birmingham: Thousands of fans head to West Midlands to watch professional video gamers | Science & Tech News

The production is slick, the pundits are sharp and the players are gods. This is no traditional tournament though. This is professional gaming. Fans are watching the best players in the world playing their favourite game, in an arena, for a cash prize. Around 15,000 fans from across the world are in Birmingham watching pros go head-to-head (virtually) throughout the week, with many thousands more watching the competition online. The tournament, ESL One Birmingham, is being held at the Resorts World Arena near the city’s airport. While many people will have heard of some of the games that are played at big esports events like this, such as Fifa, the game being played this week in Birmingham will be less widely known. Dota 2 is described to me by one gaming analyst as being ‘kind of like chess’ but with flashing lights and novelty characters. There are two teams of five players and, before play can begin, a considerable amount of time is spent by the professionals choosing their own characters and trying to stop …

This is the most versatile, easy-to-use camera I’ve tested as a professional content creator

Ant Pruitt/ZDNET ZDNET’s key takeaways Most talk in tech today revolves around AI in some shape or form, but not too long ago, VR and 360-degree video were the hot topic. When it comes to 360-degree video, the team at Insta360 has been the standard — at least in my opinion. As previously mentioned on ZDNET, I was able to get my hands on a demo unit of the latest offering from the company, the Insta360 X4, and here are my biggest takeaways after weeks of testing. View at Amazon The X4 is an impressive piece of hardware. The body is roughly five inches long and an inch and a half wide, so it’s quite easy to pack in the pocket of your backpack or even jeans and shorts. The body has a lens on each side that uses a ½-inch sensor to capture images and video. Thanks to the taller form factor, Insta360 was able to fit a two-inch touch screen to assist with navigation and shot framing. Also: My 9 must-have gadgets for …

Met police chief praises ‘professional’ conduct of officer in antisemitism row | Metropolitan police

The commissioner of the Metropolitan police has praised the “professional” conduct of the sergeant who stopped an antisemitism campaigner at a pro-Palestinian march and warned that officers at other protests had been “set up” by activists using “fakery” to undermine the force. In an interview with the Guardian, Mark Rowley said the sergeant involved in the incident with Gideon Falter would not be disciplined and vigorously defended the Met’s handling of the six months of protests since the 7 October attacks on Israel. Defying calls for his resignation, Rowley faced a series of crisis meetings on Monday with the two people who could oust him – the home secretary, James Cleverly, and the London mayor, Sadiq Khan – as well as British Jewish groups. It followed footage emerging of a Met officer telling Falter, of the Campaign Against Antisemitism, that because he was “openly Jewish” he would not be allowed to walk across a pro-Palestinian protest march through central London on 13 April. A 13-minute video of the exchange shows the officer offering to escort …
