MAN Trucks delivers first production eTGX electric semi

MAN Trucks delivers first production eTGX electric semi

MAN Truck & Bus reached another milestone on its path towards decarbonization by delivering its first regular production Ultra Low Liner eTGX electric semi truck to international logistics service provider Duvenbeck – who plan to add over 100 more such trucks to its fleet in total. (!) Duvenbeck signed a letter of intent (LOI) to purchase 120 of the new Volkswagen Group MAN electric semi trucks back in 2023, and now the first examples of the 40-ton e-trucks have arrived at Duvenbeck’s HQ. The delivery marks the latest big step towards that company’s planned electrification. “The MAN eTruck is an important step towards emission-free logistics,” says Bernd Reining, Senior Director Procurement, Duvenbeck. “It helps us to meet our customers’ requirements and protect the environment at the same time. Sustainability is part of our everyday practice.” The requirements Duvenbeck is referring to include the MAN trucks’ 3 meter interior height – a first for a battery-electric semi truck in this category. “With the Ultra Low Liner eTruck, MAN has developed a solution that is perfectly tailored to the requirements …

Something Has Gone Seriously Wrong With Cybertruck Production

Something Has Gone Seriously Wrong With Cybertruck Production

A different kind of Cyber-stuck. Batteries Not Included Last week, Tesla told workers on its Cybertruck line not to come into work — and now, it looks like we know why. As Business Insider reports based on interviews with people who work on that line, a battery supply issue has caused Cybertruck production to be “backed up” in recent weeks as the company is “working out the kinks” on its mega-popular — if not somewhat raggedy — new vehicle. In a memo viewed by BI and used in its prior reporting, Tesla told Cybertruck employees they “didn’t need” to come into work between December 3 and 5. Though they were told they would be paid for eight hours of work during that time away from the line, no official reason was given in the memo. According to five workers on that line, the schedules for Cybertruck workers have been inconsistent since the end of October. And if you’re counting down the minutes until the company solves the issue, at least one of those employees told the website …

Biodiesel production breakthrough promises sustainable fuel

Biodiesel production breakthrough promises sustainable fuel

A recent breakthrough in biodiesel production by chemists at UC Santa Cruz could reshape the fuel landscape for the US industrial and transportation sectors. This new approach, which converts waste oils into biodiesel using a simplified and energy-efficient process, has the potential to cut costs and lower emissions, offering a promising alternative to traditional diesel. With the US transportation sector consuming around 3 million barrels of diesel per day—about 75% of total diesel use nationally—this innovation arrives at a crucial time for sustainable energy solutions. Why diesel dominates and how biodiesel can change that Despite the rise of electric vehicles, diesel remains the backbone of the US economy, powering a vast majority of the trucks, trains, and ships responsible for transporting goods. Diesel accounts for roughly 10% of energy-related CO2 emissions in the United States, presenting a significant opportunity for emissions reduction if biodiesel can successfully break into the market. However, current biodiesel production methods are complex, energy-intensive, and often produce lower yields, limiting adoption. As a result, biofuels made up only about 6% of …

Apple Consolidating Vision Pro Demo Areas in Stores Amid Rumors of Slowing Sales and Reduced Production

Apple Consolidating Vision Pro Demo Areas in Stores Amid Rumors of Slowing Sales and Reduced Production

Apple is planning to consolidate the retail space dedicated to the Apple Vision Pro headset in some of its store locations, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said today. Most stores have two tables dedicated to the ‌Apple Vision Pro‌, one for display units and one for customer demos. Apple is planning to move both the demo and display sections to a single table, using the extra space to display the new M4 Mac models. Gurman says that Apple is piloting this new store arrangement, and that the change will only be coming to some locations at this time. Apple’s plan to dedicate less retail space to the Vision Pro comes just two weeks after The Information said that Apple had reduced Vision Pro production and could stop making the device entirely by the end of 2024. Some factories cut production of Vision Pro components as early as May based on poor sales forecasts. Estimates suggest that Apple will sell fewer than 500,000 Vision Pro headsets this year, even as the rollout of the device expands to additional …

SMR designs suitable for Sweden’s future electricity production

SMR designs suitable for Sweden’s future electricity production

Work performed within the ANItA project identifies SMR designs suitable for electricity production in Sweden and points out the need for further research. In one of the ongoing initial projects within ANItA, a Swedish national competence centre for nuclear power technology, work is performed to identify small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) designs that are suitable for Sweden’s electricity generation in the relatively near future. The aim is, furthermore, to point out novelties compared with the current Swedish reactor fleet that might need further investigation. Suitable SMR designs SMRs are considered an option for adding new nuclear capacity in Sweden. The SMRs can be used for different purposes. In addition to electricity generation, the heat produced can be used for district heating to heat homes and commercial buildings or be supplied to various industrial processes, including hydrogen production. All these applications are investigated within ANItA. Various types of SMRs have been proposed, some based on the technology of current nuclear reactors and others intended for use in future Generation IV nuclear power systems. The types based …

Tesla Model Y refresh starts production Oct 22, says Chinese social media

Tesla Model Y refresh starts production Oct 22, says Chinese social media

Tesla is preparing to enter limited trial production of the new Model Y “Juniper” refresh in its Shanghai factory on October 22nd, according to a Chinese car blogger. Tesla released its “Highland” Model 3 refresh last August, and it was a much more significant overhaul than we were expecting. The headline features were a new front-end, more efficiency, and a quieter cabin. But there were a lot of other interior improvements as well (and one big de-provement, the deletion of steering column stalks). Since then, there has been speculation that a Model Y refresh is coming soon. While the Model Y is not currently as old as the Model 3 was when it received its refresh, it stands to reason that there would be a number of people who are now waiting for a potential Model Y refresh before buying the car. So Tesla likely feels more of a sense of urgency to update the Model Y, which is their (and the world’s) best-selling vehicle after all. The more people think a refresh is coming …

Nathan Crowley to Receive EnergaCamerimage’s Production Designer Award

Poland’s pioneering EnergaCamerimage International Film Festival revealed Tuesday that industry veteran Nathan Crowley will receive a special award for achievement in production design at the event’s upcoming 32nd edition in Toruń. Crowley is best known for his long-running collaboration with Christopher Nolan, which earned him Oscar nominations for production design on The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Interstellar, Dunkirk and Tenet (he also was nominated for Damien Chazelle’s First Man). On the small screen, he picked up an Emmy nomination for his work on the HBO series Westworld.  By no means slowing down, his recent work includes the adaptations of Wonka and Wicked 1 & 2, and he is next booked to design the new Avengers films for the Russo Brothers at Marvel Films. “Known for his practical approach to production design, Crowley excels at creating immersive, detailed worlds, blending traditional and modern techniques,” Camerimage organizers said in a statement.  Crowley began his career in Islington, London after studying at the Brighton School of Art in the UK. In the early 1990s, he moved to Hollywood, where he got his break as the second-unit art director on Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula, utilizing practical techniques …

Welcome to Today in Books, our daily round-up of literary headlines at the intersection of politics, culture, media, and more. ‘Good Omens’: Production Paused On Amazon Drama From Neil Gaiman Good Omens, both the show and the book, is a crown-jewel in the Gaiman-verse. And so news that that season three of the show has shut down amidst mounting accusations against Gaiman are a sign that not only is this story not going away, but rather snow-balling. This Deadline piece notes that “changes to production” are being discussed to get rolling again. Take Gaiman’s name off as whatever he is being credit as for it? Some sort of PR campaign? The series has really turned into a Sheen-Tennant showcase more than a Gaiman project (we are well beyond the events in the book at this point), so maybe there is enough non-Gaiman here for the series to continue. Isuzu NRR EV electric medium duty truck is in production

Isuzu NRR EV electric medium duty truck is in production

It’s official – Isuzu has announced the official start of production for its highly anticipated new electric cab and chassis, the Isuzu NRR-EV (and I’m super excited about it). I’ve been a fan of Isuzu’s medium duty cabover trucks for more than two decades, and often try to dream up reasons to weasel one into the Borrás fleet. Based on the company’s sales figures, I’m not alone – they’re best-selling low cab forward trucks in America. As Isuzu’s first electric truck, its production start is being called “a significant milestone in Isuzu’s storied history,” and underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions that will provide viable zero-emission offerings for North America’s commercial fleets. And, just like Isuzu’s diesel NRR, the truck can be up-fitted as a box van for middle and final mile deliveries, a dump body for landscaping, or even as a sweeper (below) or garbage truck. In other words, the new Isuzu NRR-EV electric is designed to be just as versatile as its previous gas and diesel models. Maybe more versatile, in fact, …

Jiangxi Copper’s subsidiary halts production after fatal accident

LONDON : Jiangxi Copper’s subsidiary has suspended its plant in Shandong province after a fatal copper furnace accident, according to a company statement on Monday. Shandong Humon Smelting, controlled by top copper producer Jiangxi Copper, said three workers were killed and fourteen were injured. There was an unexpected spill from the plant’s side-blown copper furnace, the company said, without giving the date of incident. Production has been halted amid an ongoing investigation, the gold-copper producer said. Humon produced 203,023 metric tons of copper last year, according to its annual report. Jiangxi Copper became the controlling shareholder of Humon in 2019. Source link
