Boeing 737: Plane skids off runway in Senegal, tyre bursts in Turkey | Aviation News

Accidents involving Air Senegal, Corendon Airlines come as aircraft manufacturer in crisis over its poor safety record. Two Boeing 737 passenger planes have been involved in accidents in Senegal and Turkey on takeoff and landing, raising further questions about the aircraft manufacturer’s safety record. In Senegal, a chartered Air Senegal Boeing B737-300 plane skidded off a runway before takeoff early on Thursday at Blaise Diagne International Airport in the capital, Dakar. Eight-five people – including two pilots and four cabin crew – were on board the flight operated by TransAir and bound for the Malian capital Bamako. At least 10 people were injured, the transport ministry said. Photos showed the damaged plane at a standstill in a grassy field with a damaged wing, its emergency exit slides deployed. Videos shared on social media appeared to show a left wing on fire. The aircraft was later cordoned off with red and white tape, the Reuters news agency reported. The facility was closed after the accident but had reopened by 11:00 GMT, the airport operator said. In …

Boeing Plane Fails to Deploy Nose Landing Gear, Skids to a Halt on Runway

Seriously, when is this gonna stop? Full Frontal Boeing’s safety issues have once again been caught on camera, as a new video of an intense emergency landing in Istanbul shows one of its cargo planes failing to deploy some of its landing gears. As Reuters reports, a FedEx-operated Boeing 737 was recorded skidding to a halt at Istanbul Airport earlier this week as its front landing gears remained upright. As now-viral CCTV videos of the incident show, the cargo plane’s nose created such friction during its emergency landing that large plumes of fire were visible behind it. Atlan scores $105M to address enterprise ‘data chaos’ with a unified control plane

Discover how companies are responsibly integrating AI in production. This invite-only event in SF will explore the intersection of technology and business. Find out how you can attend here. Today, San Francisco-based Atlan, a startup working to bring some order to the “data chaos” that enterprises face, announced it has raised $105 million in a series C round of funding. The investment takes the company’s valuation to more than $750 million. The funding has been led by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and Meritech Capital, with participation from existing investors Salesforce Ventures and PeakXV Partners. Atlan said it will use the capital to further develop its product, which acts as a unified control plane to stitch disparate data infrastructure, right from data platforms like Databricks to CRMs such as Salesforce 360. The company will also use some part of the funding to grow its footprint and meet the surging demand for data organization in the age of AI.  “Over the past year, boards have consistently asked CIOs and CDOs about their AI roadmaps, who have …

China’s COMAC to expand Shanghai C919 plane factory as orders grow

BEIJING: China’s COMAC is expanding production facilities for its homegrown C919 jets in Shanghai, according to one of the project contractors, as the state-owned planemaker ramps up manufacturing to fulfil hundreds of new orders. China Aviation Planning and Design Institute (Group) Co. Ltd. (AVIC-CAPDI), a state-owned provider of aviation planning and construction services, said on its WeChat account at the end of April that the company had “recently won the bid for the second phase of the C919 large passenger aircraft batch production capacity construction project”. AVIC-APC said the project was in Pudong, Shanghai and had a total construction area of 330,000 sq m. COMAC is headquartered in Shanghai. “The completion of the project will meet the future batch production needs of the C919 large passenger aircraft, effectively improving its production efficiency and providing strong support for the commercial operation and market competition of domestically produced big aircraft,” it said. The second phase of the project, according to AVIC-CAPDI, mainly includes the construction of an assembly plant, parts warehouse and tarmac area. It was not …

Furious plane passenger pays extra for window seat | Weird | News

A furious airline passenger has said her flight was ruined after she paid extra for a window seat only to find they were sat next to a blank panel. Taking to Reddit to complain about the incident, the traveller explained how while she wasn’t fussed about a lack of leg room, she was disappointed with the lack of a view. The woman, who did not name herself in the post, said she was “mildly frustrated” by the situation on the Delta flight. In the comments below the post she explained how despite boarding the plane in good spirits, she had become increasingly dismayed as she approached her seat. She explained: “I was excited to board the plane knowing my seat was A12. “My smile slowly faded as I approached my seat counting the passing rows. My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.” The ordeal was further complicated by the fact there were no alternative seats and the fact the passenger was travelling with family. As a result, she added: “It was disappointing but …

Here’s What Happens When Lightning Hits A Plane

Here’s What Happens When Lightning Hits A Plane

I’m not an anxious flyer, but even I have to admit that the idea of a plane I’m in being struck by lightning mid-air terrifies me. Perhaps it shouldn’t ― after all, the National Weather Service of America says that most commercial planes “are hit by lightning an average of one or two times a year.” But why does it happen, and is it even dangerous for the passengers and crew inside? There’s a LOT more lightning than I realised Most lightning strikes to planes occur at altitudes between 5,000 and 15,000 feet, Simple Flying shared. That’s because takeoff and landing is when the vehicles pass through clouds, which are electrically charged. Edward J. Rupke, senior engineer at Lightning Technologies, Inc. told Scientific American that aeroplanes actually trigger lightning strikes as they pass through non-striking, but electrically-charged, clouds. “Actually, aircraft often initiate the strike because their presence enhances the ambient electric fields typical for thunderstorms and facilitates electrical breakdown through air,” the US National Weather Service explains. The strike attaches itself to an extremity like …

Small Plane Crashed Into Residential Georgia Neighborhood, Killing Pilot

Small Plane Crashed Into Residential Georgia Neighborhood, Killing Pilot

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A pilot has died after a small plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in a Georgia city. The plane crashed on Thursday a little more than a half mile (1 kilometer) from Daniel Field, a general aviation airport in Augusta. Augusta University told local news outlets that the pilot was Jason McKenzie, the associate director of philanthropy at the school. McKenzie had just taken off in a single-engine Beechcraft 36 with plans to fly to New Haven, Connecticut. It’s unclear what caused the plane to descend. As it was coming down, it clipped a tree and hit power lines, leaving debris in the tree, and then crashed between two homes in the affluent neighborhood, bursting into flames. No one else was injured, and the plane didn’t hit any buildings. “I think that was a miracle,” resident Lisa Lewis told WRDW-TV. “I think the Lord protected everyone else.” Neighbors said that while it’s not unusual to hear planes so close to the airport, this one sounded much louder, followed by the boom …

Prince Harry’s ‘unbelievably rude’ comments to reporters on plane alongside Meghan Markle | Royal | News

Prince Harry is accused of making “rude” comments to journalists while onboard a flight with Meghan Markle.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were flying home from their 16-day tour of Australasia in 2018 – five months after their wedding – when he was accused of making the comments. The pair jetted off to Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand in October 2018 – a trip that coincided with the Invictus Games held in Sydney that year. Their royal tour was memorable for several reasons, including the announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy on the eve of their first day on tour. In the latest episode of A Right Royal Podcast, former royal correspondent and author Valentine Low recounted a particularly awkward moment he and his press colleagues experienced with the newlyweds. Valentine told hosts Andrea Caamano, Emmy Griffiths and Hello royal editor Emily Nash: “We were flying from Tonga back to Sydney. And often on these tours, there comes a point towards the end, when the royal might come back to the back of the plane …
