Linkin Park’s comeback album shows Emily Armstrong is less ‘stray cat’ more roaring lion

On From Zero, her first album with the band, she roses and snarls more like a look than a backyard moggy. The 38-year-old Dead Sara singer joins Mike Shinoda at the mic one minute into lead single “The Emptiness Machine” and a minute later they’re both taking turns bawling: “I only wanted to be part of something!” It’s a line that’s guaranteed to get fan fists pumping the air when the world’s most successful nu-metal band embark on a massive global tour next year. Choosing a woman for the role, LP are able to make a clear statement that they’re not trying to “replace” Bennington without tinkering with the …

Claude AI Gets Bored During Coding Demonstration, Starts Perusing Photos of National Parks Instead

Claude AI Gets Bored During Coding Demonstration, Starts Perusing Photos of National Parks Instead

Slacking on the job! Attention Span It turns out that not even AI models are immune to a little procrastination. While its developers were trying to record a coding demonstration, the latest version of Claude 3.5 Sonnet — Anthropic’s current flagship AI — got off track and produced some “amusing” moments, the company said in an announcement. It’s perilous to anthropomorphize machine learning models, but if this were a human employee, we’d diagnose them with a terminal case of being bored on the job. As seen in a video, Claude decides to blow off writing code, opens Google, and inexplicably browses through beautiful photos of Yellowstone National Park. In another demo attempt, Claude accidentally stopped a lengthy screen-recording in progress, Anthropic said, causing all the footage to be lost. We’re sure that wasn’t intentional on the AI’s part. Even while recording these demos, we encountered some amusing moments. In one, Claude accidentally stopped a long-running screen recording, causing all footage to be lost. Later, Claude took a break from our coding demo and began to …

10 Oldest National Parks in the United States

10 Oldest National Parks in the United States

In 1916, the United States National Park Service was established to protect America’s unique natural and cultural resources. Yet many of the country’s most celebrated national parks had already been safeguarding stunning landscapes and historic sites decades before this agency came into existence. In fact, some of these parks are older than certain states themselves. Below, we’ve selected 10 of the oldest national parks, each showcasing a different facet of America’s heritage, whether through unparalleled natural beauty, feats of early preservation, or sites rich in Native American, geological, and military history.   1. Grant designated Yellowstone as the first national park in 1872. This marked the beginning of the national park system not only in America but also around the world. Yellowstone National Park spans across parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It houses a stunning variety of geothermal features, including the world’s largest collection of geysers. Among these is the …

Nurses declare ‘national emergency’ as NHS patients treated in ‘cupboards and car parks’ | UK News

Hospital patients are “dying in corridors”, nurses have warned as they declared a “national emergency” in the NHS. Patients are regularly treated on chairs in corridors for extended periods of time – and sometimes even days, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has said. They are also receiving cancer diagnoses in public areas, and may have to undergo intimate examinations there too, the union added. A survey of almost 11,000 frontline nursing staff across the UK shows the practice has become widespread, the RCN said. When asked about their most recent shift, almost two in five reported delivering care in an inappropriate area, such as a corridor. Patient privacy and dignity had been compromised, almost seven in 10 said. “You wouldn’t treat a dog this way,” one nurse said. Another nurse recounted a patient with dementia being in a corridor for hours without oxygen. They said: “When I arrived, she was in a wheelchair on a corridor with her daughter. She was extremely agitated, crying and confused. This care environment for any patient, never mind …

Renewable energy parks will speed progress towards net zero

Renewable energy parks will speed progress towards net zero

Co-location is a more efficient way to generate electricity. Solar and wind energy complement each other’s generation patterns both seasonally and daily, with solar panels producing electricity during the day and wind turbines operating more consistently throughout the day and night. They also help equalise production throughout the year, with stronger winds in the winter and more sun in the summer. For example, adding four 4MW wind turbines to an average-sized 50 MW solar site, would increase green energy production from around 50,000 MWh annually to over 100,000 MWh, effectively doubling the delivery of home-grown clean energy on a single site. Further, efficiently producing energy in areas close to where it will be used, reduces the need for costly and inefficient long-distance transmission, making co-location especially productive in highly-populated regions. Quaint Island Village Disgusted When Cybertruck Visits, Parks Blocking Entire Crosswalk, Then Gets Stuck on Beach

Quaint Island Village Disgusted When Cybertruck Visits, Parks Blocking Entire Crosswalk, Then Gets Stuck on Beach

It even got stuck on the local beach and had to be rescued. Disturbing the Peace A Tesla Cybertruck is wreaking havoc on Nantucket, a tiny island off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The automotive monstrosity was spotted taking the ferry to the island on Thursday — and has been blocking sidewalks and getting stuck on the beach ever since. Local newspaper the Nantucket Current had a field day with the jarring vehicle, which has quickly become synonymous with making “poor life choices,” shoddy craftsmanship, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s grating public persona. “Cyber Stuck: First Tesla Cybertruck On Nantucket Has A Rough Day,” the newspaper titled its tongue-in-cheek piece. It “didn’t take long to make an impression,” as the Current mused. Just after rolling off the ferry, the offending vehicle blocked an entire crosswalk on the small island’s Main Street: photos show the vehicle — which had Connecticut plates — diagonally parked across a cobblestone pedestrian walkway. In short, it’s arguably the perfect representation of what we’ve come to expect from the divisive …

The 10 ‘best’ national parks in Europe as UK snubbed from list | World | News

Europe has a variety of stunning national parks that make great alternatives to busy beach resorts and cities. Visitors can contemplate the wonders of nature as they take in the unique scenery and wildlife these beauty spots have to offer. The national parks are growing in popularity, attracting millions of visitors every year. So the question arises which ones are the best to visit. Of course the answer always depends on who you ask. The website europeanbestdestinations.com compiled its own list of its top ten, and not one was British. The top pick was Plitvice Lakes in Croatia, with its spectacular waterfalls. It is located between the Mala Kapela mountain range in the west and northwest, and the Lička Plješivica mountain range to the southeast. Thereafter come the national parks of Saxon in Switzerland, the Belluno Dolomites in Italy and the wild Taiga in Finland. The Taiga has an array of wildlife that was once though lost to Europe forever. Here visitors can catch glimpses of brown bears and wolves, if they are lucky. In …

‘Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill Reveals His Real Name: ‘My Parents Giving Me a Disadvantage From the Start’

‘Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill Reveals His Real Name: ‘My Parents Giving Me a Disadvantage From the Start’

Sam Neill is sharing details about an open Hollywood secret: his real name! During an appearance on Tuesday’s The Kelly Clarkson Show episode, the 76-year-old opened up about his decision to go by his nickname Sam instead of his given name. When Clarkson brings up the fact that Neill’s first name isn’t Sam, the New Zealand actor dryly quips, “That’s embarrassing that you know that.” He explains that his parents named him Nigel, “giving me a disadvantage from the start.” Although Clarkson says that Nigel Neill seems like a strong name, the Jurassic Park star explains that having the name Nigel leads to cruel childhood nicknames like “Nigel No Friends.” “When I was 10, my best friend was called Nigel Nut — which is even worse. Nigel Nut and Nigel Neill,” he recalls for the audience. “But we liked Westerns and we thought, ‘Let’s not just call ourselves Nigel, let’s have nicknames.’ So I was called Sam and he was called Bill. And that was the best decision I ever made.” “There are no film actors called Nigel Niell, that’s never gonna …
