Mother of girl operated on 17 times by now-suspended surgeon fears she may never walk again | UK News

The mother of a young girl operated on 17 times by a now-suspended surgeon has told Sky News she’s “angry and so upset” and fears her daughter may never walk again. Her child is only eight years old and now needs further surgery, including a hip replacement. She was one of nine patients whose treatment fell below the expected standard at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. The Department of Health told Sky News the situation is “incredibly concerning”. The little girl’s case was uncovered following an external review into the specialist paediatric surgeon who has since been suspended. Image: Sky’s Laura Bundock spoke to the girl’s mum (R), who has asked not to be named The child was born with hip dysplasia, a condition affecting the hip socket, which can usually be fixed. But issues with her operations have left her using a wheelchair and crutches. Her mother, who’s asked not to be named, said: “It’s like a big limp. She is not stable and can’t balance on that leg, so she always has to have …

Mother of Elon Musk’s Child Begs Him for Help With Their Kid’s “Medical Crisis”

Mother of Elon Musk’s Child Begs Him for Help With Their Kid’s “Medical Crisis”

As Elon Musk wielded a chainsaw during a baffling appearance at a political event, the mother of several of his children is begging for help, saying he’s not responding to an urgent issue around one of their kids’ health. In a since-deleted post on X-formerly-Twitter, the 36-year-old songstress and producer Claire “Grimes” Boucher implored Elon Musk to “plz respond about our child’s medical crisis.” Although we don’t know much about the situation, including which of their three children she’s referencing or what the kid is going through, whatever is going on clearly has the “Oblivion” singer spooked. “I am sorry to do this publicly but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation,” she continued. “This requires immediate attention.” Seemingly at wit’s end, Grimes insisted that if Musk didn’t want to speak to her directly he could “designate or hire someone who can do that we can move forward on solving” the “urgent” issue. The entreaties — which came less than a week after conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair claimed that she’d secretly given …

Nurse Says Mom Refused To Pick Up Her NICU Baby Because She Had Weekend Plans

Nurse Says Mom Refused To Pick Up Her NICU Baby Because She Had Weekend Plans

If you’re on social media, you’ve likely heard the story of Allie Rae, the mom who unplugged her NICU baby’s pulse ox machines to summon the nurses into the room and request a turkey sandwich. While many of us were left slack-jawed over her behavior, one nurse claims she’s seen worse. Rachel Sibler, who works as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), previously worked at a hospital where she spent a lot of time in the NICU. She took to TikTok to share the story of a couple who could not even be bothered to bring their baby home after three months in the NICU because the discharge date would ruin their weekend plans. A nurse recalled that a mom refused to bring her baby home from the NICU on their discharge date because they had weekend plans. “We had a mom who had a NICU baby, and the baby was born very, very prematurely. I’m talking about like a 23-and-a-half-weeker that was barely over a pound when they were born,” Sibler recalled. She worked …

Mother of OpenAI Whistleblower Alleges He Was Murdered, Says There Were Signs of Struggle

“Private autopsy doesn’t confirm cause of death stated by police.” Probe the Probe The family of Suchir Balaji, the 26-year-old OpenAI whistleblower who was found dead just a month after his New York Times exposé was published, is claiming that the young man was murdered. An account that appears to belong to Balaji’s mother Poornima Ramarao — shortened to “Rao” online — said in a post on X-formerly-Twitter that a private investigator’s probe has led the family to believe that the young whistleblower did not commit suicide as officials allege. “We hired private investigator and did second autopsy to throw light on cause of death,” Ramarao tweeted. “Private autopsy doesn’t confirm cause of death stated by police.” “Suchir’s apartment was ransacked,” she continued, adding that there was some “sign of struggle in the bathroom and looks like some one hit him in bathroom based on blood spots.” The account, which has shared photos of Balaji that hadn’t previously been seen in the press and a GoFundMe for the private investigation efforts, went on to suggest …

The series originally started life in 2018 as a show aimed at children but, after continually tackling mature themes that, months ago, left parents in tears, it’s become clear that Bluey has morphed into something else entirely. This recently led to a debate on the Adult Bluey Fans Facebook group, with one mother wondering when exactly you become too old to enjoy the Australian show. “When does your child outgrow Bluey?” the post read, with the user sharing a story about an interaction she saw while out shopping. “While shopping today, a young girl, around nine or 10 years old, expressed excitement upon seeing Bluey-themed clothing. Her mother questioned her, ‘Aren’t you becoming too mature for Bluey?’” They weren’t the only ones upset by this plot development, …

Like Mother Like Mother by Susan Rieger

Like Mother Like Mother by Susan Rieger

Susan Rieger’s third novel, Like Mother, Like Mother, is an intricate tapestry of family dynamics, ambition, and the weight of untold stories that shape generations. Following her previous works The Divorce Papers and The Heirs, Rieger delivers her most accomplished and emotionally resonant novel to date, though it occasionally stumbles under the weight of its own complexity. Plot and Narrative Structure Set primarily in Detroit and Washington D.C., the novel spans from 1960 to 2024, following three generations of women bound by blood but separated by circumstance and choice. The story begins with two-year-old Lila Pereira’s mother being committed to an asylum by her abusive father, Aldo. This foundational trauma reverberates through decades as Lila rises to become the executive editor of The Washington Globe, leaving her own maternal duties largely to her husband Joe. The narrative is divided into three parts, each focusing on a different woman: Lila’s ascent in journalism and complex relationship with motherhood Grace’s journey to understand her mother and family history The revelation of Zelda’s fate and its impact on …

Mother of the Blues

Mother of the Blues

The first time I felt it, I knew it was old as ancestry: the feeling some women chase with words; some feel out the flesh of their mouths or stomach with moans and growls you would’ve thought was warfare. The child   conceived of heartache, our evidence of loving. I was with child before I ever lay with a man—an ill-mannered girl who made a language of feeling. She rattled my insides, making songs of heartache and lonely. I carried her for years—   thought I got rid of her with words fishing round like a hook.   She only grew heavy as any baby fat with emotion, the weight I carry like any mother, like any woman who has mothered herself while a child clawed out her throat. A boy left me   by the side of the road, heart in hand like a beggar. I hadn’t known I was with child until she came naked on my tongue, a cry so much my own and so separate from my body.   Words crashed through my mouth like I …

The Sydney Morning Herald recently shared the obituary for Jennifer Ann Kelly, who died on October 28 at the age of 88. At the start of the death notice, her sons – Sean and Chris Kelly – shared a few qualities and facts about their mother. “Farewell Jennie Kelly. Born 15 May 1936. Our wild and wayward mother died on 28 October 2024,” the obituary read. “She refused to say ‘passed.’ We spend most of our lives compensating for our upbringing said Jennie.” Sean and Chris then playfully described her beliefs and behaviors, adding: “She believed that exposing youth to religion was a form of child abuse. It was impossible …
